Bug#731875: mono-xbuild: Default installation fails due to CIL 4.0/4.5 incompatibility

2013-12-10 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Package: mono-xbuild
Version: 3.0.6+dfsg2-10
Severity: serious

Hi there,

I tried using xbuild in my fresh and shiny unstable chroot. This
failed horribly:
 | $ xbuild
 | Missing method .ctor in assembly
/usr/lib/mono/gac/Microsoft.Build.Engine/4.0.0.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a/Microsoft.Build.Engine.dll,

 | Can't find custom attr constructor image:

 | Missing method .ctor in assembly
/usr/lib/mono/gac/System.Core/4.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.Core.dll, type

 | at Mono.XBuild.CommandLine.MainClass.Main (System.String[] args) [0x0]

As this always occurs, the package mono-xbuild is largely useless after
installation (hence the severity of the bug).
Some digging revealed that while mono-xbuild depends on
libmono-corlib4.5-cil, the way things are currently set up, CIL 4.0 is
picked up.

A workaround to this problem is to explicitly set
 MONO_PATH=/usr/lib/mono/4.5/
when invoking xbuild. Of course, that's not a good permanent solution...

Anyway, thanks for doing all this work: While somewhat unpolished, the
packages largely worked and allowed me to port a relatively large F#
application to Linux in a few hours.

break compatibility with the systems that run stable. Given the usual
lifetime of a Debian stable release, it would help greatly if stable's
ssh would either support ControlPersist, or at a minimum ignore it for
 compatibility.
I can sympathise with this. I'd rather make it do something useful than
ignore it. However, since we're frozen, I'm CCing the release team for

samidare/0.7-1 wfo/0.1-2

I did not yet add it, as it contains a few packages you didn't list:
capistrano librspec-ruby merb ohcount samidare wfo

I arrived at that list by repeated dak rm -Rns testing @packages runs,
starting with @packages = (ruby1.9) and then adding all broken packages
to @packages until reaching a fixpoint. This means I also considered
broken build-depends.

Do you still want to get all of these packages removed?

I do not see why it should. It's only relevant a compile time. The real
libs are in /usr/lib, where the linker will find them later, and rpath
is not involved. (The openmpi package has used that setup since

Anyway, I'm OK with patching the rules file as well. Time spent on

Erm. I'm very reluctant to filing bugs that can't easily be reproduced
in unstable. At this point, you need a custom mpi-defaults package to
reproduce them. Also, it is possible that some of them will not be
fixable before the new mpi-defaults is in unstable (= you can't upload a
fixed package that works if the new mpi-defaults isn't in unstable).
I'm with Lucas here. If we file the bugs before the upload, we should be
very explicit about the fact that it does not concern unstable yet. As a
compromise, we could prepare patches, upload mpi-defaults and file the
bugs with the respective patches. (Or most of them, did not check how
 complex the changes are.)

That would be great. The point is that transitions suck most once they
are half-started and preparing as much as possible helps to keep the
sucking phase short.

This would enable to fix these in a timely fashion. I could start
doing that tomorrow night. How does that sound to you?

2010-02-21 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Package: octave3.2
Version: 3.2.4-2
Severity: serious

Heya,

It looks like octave3.2 is hitting a ld bug:
| g++ -shared -Wl,-soname -Wl,liboctinterp.so -o liboctinterp.so [...]
| /usr/bin/ld: non-dynamic relocations refer to dynamic symbol
ceil(std::complexfloat const)
| /usr/bin/ld: failed to set dynamic section sizes: Bad value
| collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

[From
https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=octave3.2;ver=3.2.4-2;arch=mipsel;stamp=1266531285]

This seems to be due to a binutils bug in ld, filed here:
http://sources.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=10144

It looks like building without -g might work around the problem, so removing
the -dbg packages for mips* might be an option for now.

 Already done.
 Looks like it failed again.

No idea why. Tried to reproduce it on purcell, package built just
fine. Have uploaded it now.

There are still some packages that need to be updated because they FTBFS
because of the (not-so-)new API: php-adodb (mine, will try to fix it
 during the WE), php-ssh2, php-imlib, zeroc-ice, php-clamav, php-apc.
Have bugs been filed about this?
 For php-adodb, php-ssh2, php-imlib, php-clamav, and php-apc: yes.

Great, thanks.

The zeroc-ice build failure appears to be just that the package was built
against php 5.3 but with a patch that requires 5.3 (no compatibility with
old versions was added to the patch). Since we anyway need it to be built
against 5.3 please give it back on mipsel and sparc.

Done.

Another upload of php5 will follow as soon as the current version is
built and installed on mips* (so that the binNMUs can be built there), to
fix the RC bug affecting parallel building and possibly some regressions.

Should that new Debian revision be uploaded with urgency=medium?
low is OK. If it should become a problem, we can always reduce the
 waiting period later on.
Ok. I was mostly worried about the time it would take to get it built on all
the architectures, but I now see that mips* seem to be doing better.

(a) urgency has no influence at all on the w-b queue order
(b) the mips* backlog is still enormous (400/500 packages)
(c) I have bumped build-priorities for packages related to the current
transitions and will continue to do so.

lintian actually warns about this (serious!) bug in the packaging and it

I've scheduled binNMUs for all r-deps of goffice that haven't been

Could you schedule this transition and the related binNMUs ?

We will do so as soon as unstable is in a better shape again. We still
need to clean up the rests of the jpeg mess and finish the current set
of transitions off. Afterwards, we will need to do something about our
mips and mipsel buildds, which both have a serious backlog of several
hundred packages (mips has almost 600 packages in needs-build).

So, yeah, we know about this, and will schedule it, but would like you
to wait a bit. This, of course, also holds for the Qt/Phonon
transitions.

Thanks for the patience,

Bug#570381: Please do not depend on libjpeg8-dev (yet)

2010-02-18 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Package: cups
Version: 1.4.2-8
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

Heya,

Your package currently fails to build on most archs as it build-deps
both on libtiff4-dev and libjpeg8-dev. The former is now, in the course
of the libjpeg8 rollback, depending on libjpeg62-dev again and will
continue to do so in the foreseeable future.

Please change the dep to libjpeg-dev or at least libjpeg62-dev | libjpeg-dev.
It is perfectly fine to build-dep only libjpeg-dev as long only one package
provides libjpeg-dev - believe me, I wear a buildd maintainer, release wizard
and lintian maintainer hat while I'm writing this.

Thanks for your interest in this, Kees. We have actually been
 working on this recently. See:

   http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-cli-libs/packages/db4o.git;a=summary

and the commits I will push there quite soon.

Admittedly we haven't been keeping the BTS as up-to-date as we could
have, but a ping would have allowed us to explain the situation. One
of the reasons for the recent delays is that all CLI updates are
tied to a transition we are currently seeing through.

Rest assured that a new version of db4o will be forthcoming very soon.
Okay, excellent! I was just trying to reduce RC bugs for the bug
squashing party. I'm glad this is getting attention.

As the fixed package has moved to testing now, I'm closing this bug.

Thanks for your work,

Bug#557457: subversion: FTBFS due to conflicting db-dev requirements in the build-deps

2009-11-22 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Package: subversion
Version: 1.6.6dfsg-1
Severity: serious

Heya,

Just so that this doesn't get lost:

HE peterS: Around? Are you aware of the fact that subversion is FTBFSing?
HE peterS: The problem is that subversion build-depends on libdb4.7-dev,
libaprutil1-dev, and libaprutil1-dev depends on libdb4.8-dev. No way to
  get the build-deps installed.
HE peterS: So I guess the sane solution would be to upgrade subversion to
use db4.8, but I have no idea how much breaks in that setup. It would be
nice to get it solved, though, as a missing subversion makes anjuta
unbuildable, and anjuta is part of a horrible gnome transition.

Thanks for the fish,
Marc

Bug#550430: release.debian.org: gb libalien-wxwidgets-perl on {hppa,ia64,mips}

2009-10-11 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Roberto C. Sanchez robe...@connexer.com writes:
 The libalien-wxwidgets-perl package Build-Depends on
'libextutils-cbuilder-perl (= 0.24)' and it appears to have caused the
recent build failures. The libextutils-cbuilder-perl package is now
provided virtually by perl-modules as of 5.10.1.

Provided packages are never considered to fulfil a versioned dependency,
so the version provided by perl-modules will not help. sbuild has a bug
to not explicitly install the package, so a simple give back will not
help right now.

Bug#544538: Patch to place windows in quadrants

2009-09-01 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Package: openbox
Version: 3.4.7.2-3
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Heya,

I finally made a patch to make MoveResize understand
BelowCenter/AboveCente/LeftOfCenter/RightOfCenter. With this, moving a
window to a certain quadrant of the screen is trivial:

keybind key=C-A-q
keybind key=1
action name=MoveResizeTo
xLeftOfCenter/x
yAboveCenter/y
/action
/keybind

keybind key=2
action name=MoveResizeTo
xRightOfCenter/x
yAboveCenter/y
/action
/keybind

keybind key=3
action name=MoveResizeTo
xRightOfCenter/x
yBelowCenter/y
/action
/keybind

keybind key=4
action name=MoveResizeTo
xLeftOfCenter/x
yBelowCenter/y
/action
/keybind
/keybind

Together with the GrowTo(...) actions, this can be used to emulate
something like tiling, which is great for people with big screens.

If you could include this (or a variant of this patch), I would be very
happy. This, obviously, should also be forwarded to upstream after it
was fixed to match any possibly existing coding conventions.

Thanks,
Marc

Bug#544399: ITP: rakudo -- implementation of Perl 6 for Parrot

2009-08-31 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Ryan Niebur ryanrya...@gmail.com writes:
Rakudo Perl is an implementation of the Perl 6 specification that
runs on the Parrot virtual machine.

I won't be able to upload this for a while, because previous to the
current git version the build system didn't work with system installed
parrot. parrot and rakudo release go together (monthly), but the
debian maintainer of parrot only uploads the stable releases. So I
have to wait for the next stable version of parrot to be released and
uploaded to debian, and then for the corresponding version of rakudo
to be released. So it will probably be a few months...

Would it be possible to put a current parrot build into experimental?

I needed to check the source to find out when the disconnect script is
run (before bringing down the interface). It would be nice to actually
note this somewhere - or even better, provide a pre-down and a post-down

Or scripts, if you implement the wishlist bug I just filed :-)

of a single one.

Heya,

Having just installed wicd, I tried to convert my (relatively complex)
configuration to it. I needed to edit the configuration manually, as the
graphical interface didn't allow to configure networks that are not in
reach right now.
That sucks, because right now I have the time to configure wicd, but when
I'm somewhere and just want to go online for a few minutes, I don't want
to do the configuration. Just add a Configure network button somewhere
that allows to specify the essid.

Bug#515731: Similar problem on mipsel

2009-02-18 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Heya,

I had a similar problem with an unstable chroot on a mipsel box
yesterday:

| touch: setting times of `/var/log/dpkg.log': Unknown error 4294967207

The used kernel: 2.6.18-6-r5k-cobalt (2.6.18.dfsg.1-23etch1)

As I needed this to work, I have upgraded the box to lenny in the
meantime, so can't easily reproduce this.

severity 505088 important
thanks

Lionel Elie Mamane lio...@mamane.lu writes:
Maintainer has put it to severity minor (not sure why: because it
applies only to nanosecond timestamp filesystems? because he thought
it did not apply to the version in lenny?), which I consider too
low. Not entering BTS ping-pong, but if the release team agrees with
me (it is a confirmed release goal according to
http://release.debian.org/lenny/rc_policy.txt), please say so. I'd be
glad to do an NMU if that's appreciated / necessary / ..., but:
  - when the maintainer considers it minor, I feel I need strong
reasons to do it
  - at this point I'm not sure if we are supposed to do it only for RC
bugs or also for release goals.

Only for RC bugs, so please don't NMU.

I think we will just add the doublebuild thing to the release goals for
squeeze (though mandating an idempotent build process would be something
for the policy in general), so this bug is at least important.

Should the RT be happy to accept it, I've attached a diff that adds
those two distributions to the list. (On a side note, --bpo will still
create an etch-backports upload, but I haven't changed that in order to
keep the diff minimal and because --bpo is a convenience method).

Bug#511678: -u|--pause is handled as -t|--play-pause

2009-01-13 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Package: audacious
Version: 1.5.0-2
Severity: normal

Heya,

audacious seems to handle -u the same way it handles -t, that is,
starting playback when it was paused. I tried to actually send a patch
with this, but lost track somewhere between the CLI and the dbus
abstraction layer.

Thanks anyway,
Marc

I do. I don't file bugs about these issues (and there are quite a lot of

Shame you couldn't wait 6 days for the new stable release. I don't
immediately release a new stable release after making lots of changes to
ensure it has received some testing in the field first. Your loss.

It wouldn't have been included anyway. Making lots of changes is not
something the Debian elease team wants to see shortly before a release.

I would like to downgrade this bug temporarily to important to not

Errr ... The severity of this bug isn't changed by the fact that we are
trying to release. The correct move is to ask the release team for a
lenny-ignore tag (which I've set now, as this bug was discovered very
late in the cycle, we've relased with it before, the issue is not
looking it would actually become a legal liability, but is due to
software being created before free software was actually a concept

I'm in no position to fix all this. I'm not familiar enough with

would have to make, in particular to all the virusscanner scripts.
upstream apparently does not seem to, let's say, consider the tempfile

Removal hint added. FWIW, software like mailscanner, having extensive

able to fix security issues in a timely manner. The fact that it isn't

Bug#475737: remove otrs2 from lenny?

2008-12-05 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Torsten Werner [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:
On Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 9:48 AM, Thomas Viehmann [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
given that there seems to be limited interest in fixing the #475737 (3
weeks since reopen without further comments), how about removing otrs2
 from lenny?

I had sent the following reply to the list (but not to the bug) weeks
ago but I did not get an answer so far:

I tried to bring a bit of order into this mess. In #475737, two issues
were covered:
 (i) Files in /usr are written.
(ii) The web frontend (aka www-data) is able to write random perl code
into files that are later executed by the otrs2 user

So, we can fix (i) easily: Just push the config file to somewhere in
/var or /etc, fix the code or symlink it in from /usr, make it writable
by www-data and we are done. Moving it to /etc seems a bit evil, as this
data isn't meant to be changed manually, so /var seems like the better
option.

(ii) is a more complex issue, and I would consider this as something
that could get a lenny-ignore tag. The main problem, communication
of configuration changes between the web frontend and the rest of the
OTRS suite, enforces some way of passing information. Using
turing-complete perl code for that isn't the best way.
Luckily, OTRS already uses XML for its configuration in quite a few
places, and it might be a reasonable idea to use exactly that for the
web frontend. The general idea would then be to write out XML
configuration files as www-data, which are then parsed by
Kernel::System::Config. This would also get rid of the horrible
_XML2Perl function currently used.

This is a big, long-term change that should be discussed with
upstream (and I'm willing to propose this, and write code for it). What
do you think?

As you ahve the correct build-deps in debian/control, I guess that
the configure check is fscked.

Bug#503016: RM: podlators-perl from lenny RoM

 b) testing removals is in the domain of the release team,
Last time I asked to get a package removed from testing(-security) I was
 referred to ftpmaster;
 http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2008/10/msg00617.html

The release team can remove source packages and *all* binaries built
From them lenny. Single binary removals, removals from
testing-proposed-updates and similar things are handled by the FTP
team.

Please consider this a request to remove podlators-perl from lenny to close
 another RC bug in lenny.

Patch? If this is a one-liner or something similar, I approve of getting

There is also a workaround that should be added in cairo, so that iceweasel

FWIW, I happily would unblock a cairo packages with this fix, as this
would solve a quite annoying usability issue. Cairo maintainers, could
you consider an upload?

No further information has been added on the status of this bug. Can
we please get a justification in the bug report of why this is being
 tagged ‘lenny-ignore’?

The release team does not consider this bug something that needs to be
fixed for lenny to be released. While the issue is not completly fixed
yet (as we are missing an actual definition of compatible with Xen),
XenSource has clarified that their intentions are something that is
compatible with the DFSG. And, as you yourself pointed out:

| I guess in both those instances, the redistributor could simply rename
| the work to be on the safe side. So long as this option remains
| available I guess the combination is DFSG-free.
