Bug#766294: [Pkg-libvirt-maintainers] Bug#766294: virt-manager: Cannot Exit Console Fullscreen Mode

2014-10-22 Thread Martin Gallant
OK, I see the disconnect.

All my virtual machines are hosted on my localnet server machine, and
accessed through the LAN
My Virtual Machine Manager connection looks like qemu+ssh://user@server/system

I was not able to reproduce either when the VM was on localhost

Try connecting to a VM on a remote host

Thanks for the quick response,

Bug#766294: virt-manager: Cannot Exit Console Fullscreen Mode

2014-10-21 Thread Martin Gallant
Package: virt-manager
Version: 1:1.0.1-2
Severity: important

Since a recent update of virt-manager in Jessie, I have lost the ability to
pull down the small menu in the center of the client machine full screen
console. This is where the exit full screen mode button I was using is
located.

This is easily reproduced in gome3 and xfce4.

Bug#765726: Peeling the Onion

2014-10-20 Thread Martin Gallant
The reason it appeared I did not restart X after loading the updated
module is the Xorg.1.log was a stale console from an older unrelated
XDMCP client session.

I cannot get the system to create a new Xorg.*.log when X is invoked via gdm3.
I have no idea why that is - If I invoke X directly, the log file gets created.

To move forward, I have purged gdm3 and installed lightdm as a replacement.
I still have the same startup issues this way, and the log does appear
in /var/log
I am enclosing it in the following entry.

Thanks for your patience on this.

Has this issue been reported upstream to the kernel developers?
I just did a search on bugzila, and couldn't find any record of this issue.

Just to make sure we are on the same page, my systems are on Jessie, not Sid.
I have both amd64 and i386 Jessie machines, and I see the problem on
both architectures.

$ dpkg -l apt python-apt
ii apt 0.9.12.1 amd64
commandline package manager
ii python-apt 0.9.1amd64Python
interface to libapt-pkg

I have never seen any issue when using apt-get.
I only get errors when updating (via cron) through unattended-upgrades.
But note I depend on this automated process, and hardly ever do manual upgrades.

To be clear, the actual installation process always succeeds.
Its the reporting phase that reports errors.

The problem is intermittent in nature.
unattended-upgrades fails about 95% of the time, but occasionally works OK.

My guess is this issue is load dependant, perhaps triggered by large
upgrade jobs.

I have tried downgrading individual packages, and re-upgrading through
unattended-upgrades.
I cannot reproduce the issue when I go trough that path. (Tried 3 packages)
I am still trying to narrow down a single package testcase to reliably
reproduce.

Bug#726156: Debian 726123 related to 726156

2013-11-05 Thread Martin Gallant
I have been tracking down a related issue in the unattended-upgrades package.
Please refer to bug report 726123.

The traceback I get is nearly identical to that reported in this bug.
So I wanted to bring this related issue to your attention.

I have tried to put together a fix locally, but am quickly getting over my head.

Should I leave 726123 assigned to unattended-upgrades, or reassign it
to python-apt?
I am not sure what the Debian policy is on such things, so I wanted to
ask first.

Please let me know how you would like this handled. Thanks.

This problem appears to have been exposed by the update to apt

I have made three changes to the unattended-upgrade script to dig into this:

2. Added tracback code to see root cause of error in handler

Worked around this issue by inserting round parentheses around the

SMB failures turned out to be a configuration issue on my system, so
downgrading bug to NORMAL.

This is important to me, as I use the tar creation facility to snapshot my

The way backuppc operates, the images I send offsite could have PST files

Bug#618421: backuppc: Missing Files Tagged to Latest Full Instead of Last Incremental

2011-03-14 Thread Martin Gallant
Package: backuppc
Version: 3.2.0-3
Severity: important

When a file fails to backup (due to being locked) the marker used is that of th$
last full backup, instead of the last incremental.

Also, if I take a dump of the system using BackupPC_tarCreate, the resulting
image contains the last full backup, instead of the last incremental.

I am including a screenshot to illustrate:
Most recent full backup is #97
Most recent incremental is #99
Personal.pst was locked on #100. IMO, this should point to v7, not v5.
tar file created after run #100 contained v5. Should be v7.

This is especially troublesome for Outlook PST files, as it is diffcult to
guarantee the file will be open for readin when the backup kicks off.

Bug#603371: Please Reassign to Package tar

2010-11-14 Thread Martin Gallant
I have isolated this issue to upgrading tar from 1.23-3 to 1.24-1.

The bug still exists in the latest version 1.25-2.

Bug#603371: Update

2010-11-14 Thread Martin Gallant
I have made progress isolating the problem by using manual invocations of GNU
tar.

Apparently the semantics of .tar .one-file-system. has changed.
If I remove this option from my test invocation, the dump proceeds normally.

Bug#603371: amanda-server: Cannot guntar dump local volumes on server

2010-11-13 Thread Martin Gallant
Package: amanda-server
Version: 1:3.1.0-1
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

For the past few days all my dumps for volumes residing on the server machine
show an empty level 0 dump. I am using GNUTAR.

This has been observed with tar 1.25-1 and tar 1-25-2.

Dump volumes from remote and samba clients are still backing up OK.

Bug#384762: amanda-server: Upgrade to Etch - Excessive Loggingin /var/log/amanda

2006-10-18 Thread Martin Gallant
I hadn't ever noticed these files anywhere in releases prior to Etch.
(I have been running Amanda on Debian for over 5 years now)

Was this "debug" functionality enabled by default in previous releases?

As long as these files don't result in the filesystem filling up with junk
(i.e. they are appropriately rotated) I don't personally have a problem.

I just checked, and it appears that they are properly rotated.
Your discretion as to whether this bug can be closed immediately.

BTW, thanks for maintaining these packages.

The number of debugging logs hasn't changed, the location just moved.
Are the logs causing you a real problem, or were you just startled to
discover them in /var/log/amanda?

Bdale

Tons of logs being placed in /var/log/amanda since upgarde to Etch
