2020-11-28 Thread Mattia Monga

The procedure needed to produce a signed custom kernel suitable for UEFI Secure
Boot is not documented (although the Debian kernel packages are correctly
signed). Even https://wiki.debian.org/SecureBoot explains how to add a Machine
Owner Key to the system, but not how produce a signed kernel.

Bug#972675: bash: ENTER produces ^M

2020-11-28 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: bash
Version: 5.1~rc3-1
Followup-For: Bug #972675
X-Debbugs-Cc: mo...@debian.org

The problem seems to be related to readline not strictly bash. In fact I found
that the culprit is a line I had in my ~/.inputrc

"\C-\r": self-insert

Removing that solves the problem with bash > 5.1. My original inputrc works
fine in bash 5.0-4.

Bug#893465: gnome-shell-extension-tilix-dropdown: New version of tilix does not support quake mode on Wayland

2018-03-18 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: gnome-shell-extension-tilix-dropdown
Version: 5.1-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Since version 1.7.7 tilix does not support quake mode on Wayland (see
https://github.com/gnunn1/tilix/issues/1314), but Wayland is the default on
Gnome.

I think this package should (1) depend on an older version of tilix or (2)
execute tilix on the x11 backend. The attached patch implements solution (2),
however having it as preference option would be better.

Bug#802223: live-config: 0170-systemd hangs during boot

2015-10-18 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: live-config
Version: 5.0~a5-1
Severity: important

If the live-config systemd component is activated, the live-config job
hangs.

I suspect it is a problem with dependencies, in particular with
the getty@tty1.service, since if the line

systemctl restart getty@tty${NUMBER}.service

is commented out in /lib/live/config/0170-systemd the boot proceeds
(but the autologin is not performed).

I've just downgraded and rebooted to the unstable version of the
packages and everything works now. Since I'm tracking the unstable
distribution, I'm not able to say if the versions I had installed were
slighty different two days ago: as is I guess the bug is
unreproducible. Anyway, thank you for your help.

Bug#703222: closed by Michael Gilbert ()

2013-03-17 Thread Mattia Monga
Dear Mike,

maybe I wasn't clear in the explanation of my case.

a. I had gnome-session-bin 3.4.2.1-3 and all the unstable versions of
   the gnome packages (glib-networking 2.32.3-1,
   glib-networking-common 2.32.3-1, glib-networking-services 2.32.3-1,
   gnome-session 0.28-6, gnome-session-common 3.4.2.1-3,
   gnome-session-fallback 3.4.2.1-3, libglib2.0-0
   2.33.12+really2.32.4-5, libglib2.0-bin 2.33.12+really2.32.4-5,
   libglib2.0-dev 2.33.12+really2.32.4-5

b. in the state a. I crash into the bug

   gnome-session[3271] trap int3 ip:7fc5b55d8491 sp:7fffdbc79ef0 error:0
gdm-simple-slave[3138]: WARNING: Child process 3271 was already dead.

c. then I installed the experimental packages with the command

   # aptitude install -t experimental gnome-session --safe-resolver

d. gnome-session-bin now works correctly

Thus I believe the bug lives in the unstable set of packages and not
in the mix unstable/experimental that I know to be potential unsafe.

Best,

Not sure what do you mean: I've installed the experimental
libglib2.0-0 in order to upgrade gnome-session; I cannot downgrade it
without downgrading all (glib-networking glib-networking-common
glib-networking-services gnome-session gnome-session-bin
gnome-session-common gnome-session-fallback libglib2.0-0
libglib2.0-bin libglib2.0-dev)

This is what I have

$ aptitude search ~S~i~Aexperimental
i fonts-mathjax
- JavaScript display engine for LaTeX and
MathML (fonts)
i fonts-mathjax-extras
- JavaScript display engine for LaTeX and
MathML (extra fonts)
i A glib-networking
- giomodule relativi alla rete per GLib
i A glib-networking-common
- giomodule relativi alla rete per GLib - file
dei dati
i A glib-networking-services
- giomodule relativi alla rete per GLib -
servizi D-Bus
i A gnome-session
- gestore di sessioni di GNOME - sessione per
GNOME 3
i A gnome-session-bin
- gestore di sessione di GNOME - runtime
minimale
i A gnome-session-common
- gestore di sessioni di GNOME - file comuni
i A gnome-session-fallback
- GNOME Session Manager - sessione GNOME di
ripiego
i A libelfg0
- libreria per accedere a file oggetto ELF
i A libglib2.0-0
- libreria GLib di routine in C
i libglib2.0-bin
- programmi per la libreria GLib
i A libglib2.0-dev
- file di sviluppo per la libreria GLib
i A libjs-mathjax
- JavaScript display engine for LaTeX and
MathML

So it seems that the only experimental packages I had before upgrading
are related to mathjax.

Best,

2013-03-17 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: gnome-session-bin
Version: 3.4.2.1-3

Justification: renders package unusable

I got this error in syslog

thus GDM and the Gnome do not start: the system is usable only from
the console.

Everything works correctly if I install the new 3.6.0-1 version in
experimental.

sudo aptitude install -t experimental gnome-session --safe-resolver

I seguenti pacchetti NUOVI (NEW) saranno installati:

Bug#697426: duplicity: ubuntuone backend fails with 401 unauthorized

2013-01-04 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: duplicity
Version: 0.6.20-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

duplicity /home/ 'u1+http://Ubuntu One'

fails with "Giving up on request after 5 attempts, last status 401
UNAUTHORIZED" even if the oauth authorization was ok.

In fact, the problem is how the url is spelled: the literal space is
managed wrongly. 'u1+http://Ubuntu%20One' works properly.

This should be better documented in the man page or properly handled
in the backend.

2012-06-25 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: qemu-system
Version: 1.1.0+dfsg-1
Severity: minor

In /usr/share/qemu the link pxe-ne2k_isa.rom points to
.../../lib/ipxe/ne2k_isa.rom, but this file is not among those
installed by ipxe-qemu package.  Instead a link kvmvapic.bin ->

this causes an annoying warning when qemu-system-i386 starts.

Bug#630194: gcc-msp430: Missing signal.h and libc.a

2011-06-12 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: gcc-msp430
Version: 4.5.3~msp20110421-1
Severity: wishlist

The documentation should make clear that gcc-msp430 has some
differences with respect to mspgcc4 (http://mspgcc4.sourceforge.net/),
a project aiming at a GCC 4.x toolchain for Texas Instruments MSP430
MCUs. In fact most of the HOWTOs one can find online about developing
on MSP430 by using the GCC compiler are about mspgcc4 (or mspgcc, with
GCCv3) and the adaption to gcc-msp430 is non trivial.

For example, the code available at

https://github.com/Hack-a-Day/had_launchpad-blink

had to be modified with the following patch to compile correctly

diff --git a/Makefile b/Makefile

+void __attribute__(interrupt (TIMERA0_VECTOR)) TIMERA0_ISR(void) {

The reasons for the changes are:

- io.h is obsolete in Debian gcc-msp430, and should not be used. The
header file msp430g2231.h (in package msp430mcu), included
indirectly via msp430.h, has slightly different names of some
  macros.

- signal.h is missing, thus there is no interrupt macro and the
programmer has to use directly the GCC __attribute__

- libc.a is missing: this is not a problem for this example, since no
libc functions are used; however the default linking gives an error
  since libc cannot be found.

The last difference is the most annoying. I suggest to include libc.a
in the next releases of the package, or to create a new libc-msp430
package.

Bug#629503: cgmail: No checks if $USERNAME is not set

2011-06-07 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: cgmail
Version: 0.6.2-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch

cgmail refuses to do anything if the environment variable USERNAME is not set.
This is, however, not always the case. See also bug #265593. The problem could
be solved temporary by the user, by doing an export USERNAME=user, but a more
portable solution should be implemented. The attached patch uses Python
os.getuid to this end.

Bug#589702: latex2html: breaks unrelated latex projects which use biblatex/hyperref

2010-07-19 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: latex2html
Version: 2008-debian1-2
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

After upgrading latex2html, a unrelated (no latex2html use is involved) latex

Bug#584562: cromium-browser-inspector: Javascript debugger crashes tab

2010-07-07 Thread Mattia Monga
Dear Jonathan,

I attached to this message a minimalistic failure test case. You
should be able to reproduce the failure with the following recipe

$ LANG=C chromium-browser test.html
# select 'inspect element' from right-click menu
# select 'Scripts'
# select 'test.html'
# put a breakpoint on line 7 (by clicking on it)
# push reload button
# I get the 'Aw, Snap!' page with the generic error message
# Segfault info is available in the system logs
$ dmesg

libv8.so.2.2.18[7f700fd0d000+2ab000]

Is this enough to isolate properly the problem? Thank you!

In fact the problem is a mismatch between the main package and

I could have tried a previous version (0.13.7, not in the official
Debian repository) some time ago. I still get an error after a

And yes, it fails also with a user I've just created

Hi Rolf, I get the same error (see the attached file) if I run the program as

$ LANG=C gourmet

I've deleted ~/.gourmet just to be sure. To me it seems more an issue
related to some pythonic dependency

Bug#99785: openssh-client: simple workaround to the missing ssh-copy-id -p

2008-03-27 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: openssh-client
Version: 1:4.7p1-5
Followup-For: Bug #99785

A simple workaround to set the port number is the use of quotes

$ ssh-copy-id '-p 12345 [EMAIL PROTECTED]'

It should work with any of the parameters of ssh.

Otherwise you could apply the patch attached to bug #431731

Cheers,

Then in the ImapCopy.cfg file, assuming that imap.boh.org is the source
server

Bug#460578: firmware-iwlwifi: workaround found

2008-01-29 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: firmware-iwlwifi
Version: 0.9
Followup-For: Bug #460578

I had the same problem: mine it's related to dhcp (no binding). I was
not able to understand the root cause, but I found this workaround:

# ifconfig wlan0 up
# iwlist wlan0 scan

After this two commands a `dhclient wlan0' works correctly. After this
I'm able to do 'ifup/ifdown wlan0' without any problems.

Hope this helps others.

The guilty one is a @include common-pammount transitevely included by
the original /etc/pam.d/cron (common-session and common-auth). It
seems something related to bug #401761, but I don't get any segfault

 Do you have libgnomevfs2-extra installed?

Loïc Minier

No I didn't... With that the applet works. Maybe some doc should
inform the user that libgnomevfs2-extra is needed by gweather (not
just reccommended...)

Thank you!

Bug#427652: galeon: JS version of gmail has problems

2007-06-05 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: galeon
Version: 2.0.2-4
Severity: normal

The new version of galeon seems unable to deal with the javascript
code provided by gmail: when I click on the subject of a message, a
new page (with the message body) should open, instead nothing
happens. I'm able to use js gmail without problems if I open it with
iceweasel 2.0.0.3-2. The html version has no problems.

Title: JDEE JDE User's Guide
Author: Paul Kinnucan
Abstract: This guide explains how to use the JDE to develop Java applications
and applets. The Java Development Environment (JDE) is an Emacs Lisp
package that interfaces Emacs to third-party Java application development
tools, such as those provided by JavaSoft's Java Development Kit (JDK). The
result is an integrated development environment (IDE) comparable in power to
 many commercial Java IDEs.

Bug#353517: gnome-screensaver: Should depend on dbus

2006-02-19 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: gnome-screensaver
Version: 0.0.24-2
Severity: normal

I was not able to understand why my gnome-screensaver failed with the message

gnome-screensaver-WARNING **: failed to register with the message bus

I worked a lot to find out that one has to export a variable
DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS containing the address of dbus obtained with
dbus-daemon-1 --session --print-address (All these machinery can actually be
substituted by a gnome-session launched by dbus-launch)

In fact, when I installed the package dbus, I discovered that all this work is
actually done by /etc/X11/Xsession.d/75dbus_dbus-launch ...

Thus, gnome-screensaver should depend on dbus or at least, the machinery should
be documented in a README.Debian

Bug#336594: straw: Saving db logs in a given directory

2005-10-31 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: straw
Version: 0.25.1-5
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

I was annoyed by the (huge) log files Straw created in my home
directory. I was used to delete them from time to time (rm
~/.straw/log.0*). I backup regularly my home over the network and I
don't want unuseful big files in it. However, by digging the
documentation of Bekeley DB, I found a neat trick. A user can create a
DB_CONFIG file in the database directory to change the log location
(sample attached). I think it would be useful to document this in the
README.Debian file.

Bug#322307: emacs-snapshot-gtk: GTK menus disappear almost instantaneously

2005-08-10 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: emacs-snapshot-gtk
Version: 2005080510-1
Severity: normal

When I click on a menu (e.g. File) the corresponding menu appears and
disappears immediately. After trying two or three times while moving
the mouse, the menu behaves correctly. I'm using sawfish
(1.3+cvs2005070) with "focus follows mouse" enabled: however other GTK
apps work ok.

Bug#301350: gdesklets: New upstream version available

2005-03-25 Thread Mattia Monga
Package: gdesklets
Version: 0.33.1-2
Severity: wishlist

http://gdesklets.gnomedesktop.org/ reports a 0.34.2 with several bug
fixes. Morever I'm not able to run new desklets (my concerns are about
some new calendars!) with the old version.
