Bug#773634: lazarus: Fails any execution due to missing LConvEncoding

2015-02-14 Thread Mazen NEIFER
Hi Rainer,

Looks like you did not install LCL.
LCL is recommended by lazarus, so if your package manager does not pull
recommended packages you may fall in this issue.

Can you please ensure LCL is installed and let me know?

Cheers,
Abou Al Montacir

I confirm that NOT marking these packages as manually compiled fixed the
 FTBFS for doublecmd.
I need to analyse more the failure, but the fact that rebuilding a
system build binary solves the issue does not mean that the issue is in
that binary. It is more like if some program needs to rebuild libc in
order to work in Debian, this is of course not a proof that there is a
bug in libc Debian package.

Abou, can you please comment if you know a way to have the manual
trick work for both gtk2 and qt4?
Please see my comments on my previous post. (Sorry this thread was badly
filtered and I just discovered it)

Otherwise, I think I will fix this real soon in Lazarus to prevent
 removal from jessie.
Please don't remove the manual flag. Here, if I understood well, we are
dealing about an alpha feature which is QT support in LCL. So it could
not be a RC bug. Also upstream changed the way to handle LCL and the
user programs should upgrade.

Of course as a member of this team; I'll have a look at doublecmd
sources and try to fix it, so the way to go now is probably to lower the
severity of these bugs or to hope I can close them before the fatal
deadline of April 14th.

Cheers,

Bug#551395: [epiphany-browser] Java disappeared with 2.28.0

2009-10-17 Thread Mazen NEIFER

Package: epiphany-browser
Version: 2.28.0-4
Severity: important

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Since 2.28.0 many stuff are not working or working worse than with 2.26 series.
The most odd issue is that I can no more view java applications.
Sun java test [1] fails to detect java.
Java is enabled in preferences dialog box.
Java is installed and which java returns /usr/bin/java which links to
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java

This bug is really a major regression affecting the functionality of this
browser.

2009-07-23 Thread Mazen NEIFER
Hi,

There is indeed a bug

Le dimanche 19 juillet 2009 à 23:52 +0930, Arthur Marsh a écrit :
The help database StartPage was unable to find file
 /usr/lib/lazarus/docs/index.html.

This should be /usr/share/doc/lazarus/index.html, but this is not
packaged. I'll try to fix that soon.

Cheers,
Mazen,

Bug#474139: [libneon27] SVN broken on http

2009-06-01 Thread Mazen NEIFER
Package: libneon27
Version: 0.28.4-1
Severity: serious

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

After the following update, I could not get http acces to svn repositories.
$svn ls http://svn.freepascal.org/svn/lazarus
svn: OPTIONS of 'http://svn.freepascal.org/svn/lazarus': could not connect to
server (http://svn.freepascal.org)

I'm rising the severity of this bug to serious because it is a major issue not
having svn working for me and all open source community.
If this was raised before on unstable, we won't get now testing broken.

To test the next version of lazarus for this bug, I svn exported the
debian tree at http://bollin.googlecode.com/svn/lazarus/trunk and run
the debian/rules get-orig-source rule. After that I ran the building
with pbuilder and it ends with the error below. It does not seem to know
the lazbuild command. I think that binary got erased by a clean command
before the documentation is build (not sure and not tested yet).

If you want to I can give you the full logs.

This bug should prevent gnome to enter testing as it is a serious regression.

The unit oldlinux is present in the sources but not installed in the

 as terminal handling, etc.

---BeginMessage---
In our previous episode, Mazen NEIFER said:
Should I add it or did anyone have a workaround?

No. oldlinux is 1.1.x legacy, and is not portable to non x86. It is EOLed.

Terminal handling in a portable way is in unit termio, some of the x86isms
and linuxisms in that unit have moved to resp x86 and unit linux.

If they don't like it make them explain why they really need it.

Is it possible to try a second time on the same buildd to see if the
problem is random or systematic? As the debug symbols were not included,
the given stack trace is really useless.

I can only assume either the buildd chroot isn't clean or it's some
kernel issue. The buildd with the problem is running a 2.6.26 kernel.

Or it may be a register allocator non deterministic issue. I had such an
issue for sparc : one time out of three, the compiler could not rebuild
itself. May be this one is similar.

Bug#510797: [release.debian.org] Please include lazarus and FPC in Lenny

2009-01-04 Thread Mazen NEIFER
Package: release.debian.org
Version: lenny
Severity: wishlist

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Dear Debian release team,

FPC-2.2.0 was removed from Lenny du to copyright infringement (c.f.
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=506977 for more information).
This was fixed in the new version 2.2.2 which is now available on sid
(FPC-2.2.2-8).
It may be too late to include the new FPC version in Lenny but there are many
arguments for that :
* FPC was available on sarge and etch, it will really be sad to remove in from
Lenny
* FPC-2.2.2-8 is more stable than FPC-2.2.0-dfsg1-9 which was in Lenny before
it get removed
* FPC-2.2.2-8 has only one open bug which was present since sarge (wishlist)
* FPC-2.2.2-8 has neither lintian errors nor warnings
* Many packages got removed from Lenny only because FPC was removed
(dependency).

If this request is accepted, please consider also adding Lazarus-0.9.26-4 which
get removed because of FPC removal.
Please note that the new Lazarus version has no open bugs and no lintian errors.

Cheers,
Mazen,

Bug#509873: [libgdb-dev] Undefined symbols in libgdb.a

2008-12-27 Thread Mazen NEIFER
Package: libgdb-dev
Version: 6.8-3
Severity: serious

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

fp-ide package needs libgdb.a to add support of debugger inside the IDE.
However the libgdb.a shipped by libgdb-dev package has some problems :
* Missing dependency to libbfd-dev virtual package or at least binutils-dev
profiding it. Please have a look at the end of the log embedded in this mail.
You can get more information in http://bugs.freepascal.org/view.php?id=12636 and
in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=473955

Thanks

Bug#508013: .pc/.version still exist in diff.gz

2008-12-14 Thread Mazen NEIFER
Hi Paul,

Le mercredi 10 décembre 2008 à 21:46 -0600, Paul Gevers a écrit :
Maybe a little bit hidden in my patch, but it also removed the
.pc/.version file in the clean rule, by removing that directory. Now
that file still shows up in the diff.gz file.

I've seen that in your old patch, but didn't understand why it get
modified and furthermore, why does it appear in previous sources. The
sources I'm using locally do not have this, maybe the one uploaded by
Torsten did have this one but they shouldn't.

I'll try to find out why this happens before fixing it. What you
proposed may work but I think it is a way of hiding the problem not
solving it.

Just in case you don't know, you can run lintian yourself on your build
system by calling lintian against the .changes file and against all the
created .deb files. What I do is:

 lintian --color=always -I -E -i *_i386.changes
for DEB in *_i386.deb ; do
 if [ -f $DEB ] ; then
   lintian --color=always -I -E -i $DEB
 fi
 done

 Hope this helps.

Thank you for your hint :)

Mazen,

Version: 2.2.2-6

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I could not reproduce this bug with latest version in sid, while 2.2.0-dfsg1-8
was removed and no more supported.

Please note also that you may need to remove fp.* generated by old versions
(this will cause loosing any configuration previously stored).

If this fixes your issue please close the bug or let me know ASAP if I can do
it.

Cheers,
Mazen,

Bug#507523: Lazarus should fill in the path to fpcsrc

2008-12-02 Thread Mazen Neifer
Hi,

Le lundi 01 décembre 2008 à 20:15 -0600, Paul Gevers a écrit :
 Package: lazarus

 Copied from Ubuntus Launchpad [1]:

The symptom is that Lazarus, when it starts up, displays a message box
 saying

The Free Pascal source directory was not found. Some code functions
will not work. It is recommended that you install it and set the path
Environment - Environment Options - Files [Ignore]

I can confirm that the relevant directory (/usr/share/fpcsrc/2.2.2) is
installed (in Xubuntu, and probably also was in Kubuntu) and it is just
the Environment Option setting that is missing. The text of the message
 box misled me.

After setting this path correctly the message does not return. The
preferred behavior of the package should be that this path is set
automatically. Otherwise, the warning message should be changed.

 [1] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lazarus/+bug/303709

This path was normally fixed in 0.9.24-10
* Added system wide default configuration file

Could you use reportbug[-ng] please when reporting bugs.

Mazen

Bug#506977: FPC: copyright infringement in pre 2.2.2 sources

As can be read in the changelog of the latest version the old source of
 fpc has a copyright infringment:
 - Possible CodeGear Copyright infringements in the source were reworked
   using cleanroom approach.

Following the full discussion for the same issue in Ubuntu (discussed in
LP bug 275688 [1]) it looks like upstream is now positive of the
infringement. Upstream removed all old releases from their servers.
Debian should probably seek for a similar solution or relicense
(although the latter solution is said in [1] that it should probably
 never be mentioned)

I know it is late for Lenny, but I think we should look into this ASAP.
I will point debian-legal to this bug as well.

Bug#506977: bug 506977 ( ubuntu 275688)

2008-11-27 Thread Mazen Neifer
Hi,

 Dear FTP-masters,

Please have a look at bug 506977 (of which the last and most explaining
comment is below this email). The issue involved is a copyright
infringement in the source of fpc before version 2.2.2 (i.e. everything
version except for the one in unstable). I fear that we should either
update or remove the sources of fpc on all but unstable releases.

In Ubuntu I checked that the following packages builddepend on FPC:
 lazarus
 imapcopy
 hedgewars
 libhdate
 gearhead
 m-tx
 python-soappy
 poker-network
I assume, but have not check yet, that the same goes for Debian.

 With kind regards,
 Paul

 Marco van de Voort wrote:
  Hello,

Note: I'm the FPC core developer that also features in the Ubuntu
correspondence. Carlos (the maintainer of this port) can confirm that, or
  have a look here: http://www.freepascal.org/aboutus.var

The probable infringement was brought to our attention in early 2007.
The infringement was made amenable mostly due to trivial means (variable
names, fairly small procedures that were the same).

The other side was really cooperative, and gave us time to clean up
massively, without having to immediately pull all sources, and we employed
at tool to identify potential problem sources, and found a lot more.

So we cut real wide, and reengineered all potentially infringing code. (all
  in all a nontrivial amount).

However because the infringement was so trivial, and relicensing
counterproductive and confusion, it was decided to pull all releases.

So in august, after 2.2.2 came out, we removed all older releases from our
site, and assumed the mentioning of the copyright problems in our release
manifest would be enough to warrant a swift upgrade.

I hope it need no explanation that that was a pretty painful step, removing
10 years of history of our project.

However, here we are now, 3-4 months after the release and the heads up, and
the infringing code is still served from Debian servers. We are not happy
with this. Note that it is also not fair to the other party who has been
patient, and now could see the code still floating around.

In short: please remove the old versions as soon as possible, or upgrade.

  Marco.

Please note that removing FPC 2.2.0 from Lenny should also lead to
removing Lazarus 0.9.24. Beond the package dependency, Lazarus
statically links to the infringed code. The Lazarus IDE is not an issue
as it is GPL, but the LCL not, and thus have the same issue as RTL.

In clear, either FPC + Lazarus should get out of Lenny or should be
updated.

Please not that in answer to
http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg27208.html the backports.org
was proposed as an alternative http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL
PROTECTED]/msg27826.html but I feels it can confuse users producing non GPL
code.

Mazen,

   Hi,
Your package is failing to build on all arches except i386 with
   the error:
   mseide-msegui-1.8/debian/build_all.sh: line 18: ppc386: command not found
   Kurt

A known issue. Me mark the package as all in advance since it doesn't
have innate arch limitations bacause mainly depends on FPC arch support.
The remaining part is the GUI engine which is currently win-32 Linux
only, though any system with working libc6+X11 installation may be easily
adopted ( already working ARM is an example of such ).
So, for others arch to work, a GUI layer should be established ( or adopted
  to X11 ). The author ( Martin ) only works in win-32 (win-2000) Linux
(Suse-10) AVR32 so can't polish other archs by for himself so
volonteers are welcome. Martin is a friendly and responsible man and will
help so positive results nay be achieved quickly (really!). Feel free to
visit to public.mseide-msegui.talk on news://news.grid-sky.com; to
  contact us.

One of problem is that you're calling ppc386 which only exists on i386.
You should call fpc which will then call ppc386 on i386 and for instance
 fpcx64 on amd64.

An other problem is that the there is an lib/common/kernel/i386-linux dir
that doesn't seem to have anything i386 specific in it, it's probably not
even Linux specific but more seems to be about X11. As far as I can see that
should work on any arch in Debian.

But the real problem is that you need for instance a libc unit which only
seems to exist for i386 in the fp-units-i386 package. I have no idea why
it's only present for i386, it shouldn't be that hard to port it to all
arches. I suggest you file a wishlist bug against the fpc package requesting
 support for more arches.

The ppc386-fpc is already fixed.
The libc unit could not be available on any other arch and is
depreciated, new code should not use it.

Mazen,

in the new version. You may use chmod in your local system as a
workaround until the new version is release.

Mazen,

Bug#495688: lazarus-ide depends on fpc-abi-2.2 which is does not exist (fpc-abi-2.2.2 does)

At this moment lazarus seems uninstallable because it depends on
fpc-abi-2.2. This pseudo package is not available. Probably lazarus-ide
should depend on fpc-abi-2.2.2 because that is supplied by fp-units-rtl.

Below the output of install and package info of fpc-abi-2.2 and
fpc-abi-2.2.2. (I am running SID in just updated pbuild environment).

 With kind regards,

Lazarus in its packaged version could not use FPC 2.2.2 because LCL
units should be compiled with the same compiler as the end user program
otherwise you will get : could not find/compile unit.

I've already fixed a little compilation issue and will upload soon.
However we need a fix in fpc-source package before Lazarus could build
again.

Bug#494698: [evolution] Calendar event invitations are not recognized by Outlook

2008-08-11 Thread Mazen Neifer
Package: evolution

Every time I create a calendar event and then send invitations to my coworkers,

It is like if Outlook doesn't manage to decode it. This seems to work with

Bug#490162: lazarus: Installing sqlite3 support does not work

2008-08-05 Thread Mazen Neifer
Hi Paul,

Le mardi 05 août 2008 à 11:54 +0200, Paul van der Vlis a écrit :
 Hello,

I would like to say that -so far I know- this problem is not only about
sqlite3, but about all external libraries.

Indeed, this problem concerns all components you may want to install.
I'm working on it, but as I said I'm busy by the new release of FPC
which will require anyway to rebuild Lazarus. So I'll profit from this
rebuild to try to fix this issue.

I think Lazarus is only useable in this way for very less things.

Lazarus is a great software, and we try to make it greater and greater.
Any help, patch is usually welcome :)

Cheers,
Mazen,

Bug#386303: [evolution] Re: evolution showing Formatting message (...)

2008-08-01 Thread Mazen Neifer
Package: evolution
Version: 2.22.3.1-1

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hi Carlos,

This is not an acceptable workaround. HTML messages with image links are quite
common today and most mail clients supports them. However, I've seen this
problem with huge mails containing no images. Setting mail size limitation
seems not help in this case (using 1MB limit)

Cheers

Bug#490162: lazarus: Installing sqlite3 support does not work

After installing Lazarus and starting it, I get an error:

 does not look correct.
Choose OK to choose the default .
Otherwise check Environment - Environment Options - Files
 ---
I changed the source directory to /usr/share/fpcsrc/2.2.0/

Indeed this is a known problem, should be fixed soon

Then I want to install support for sqlite3. When I do that, Lazarus needs to
rebuild. When I do that I get this error:

How do you that? The shipped Lazarus should have all component already
built. I'll try to have a look at that, but I'm very busy with FPC
2.2.2rc2.

 Write error
Unable to write to file /usr/lib/lazarus/components/cgi/Makefile.fpc!

The packages from freepascal.org (tested with Etch) do not have this

Bug#477743: lazarus_0.9.24-0-7(sparc/unstable): FTBFS on sparc

2008-04-25 Thread Mazen Neifer
This is a bug in FPC and not in Lazarus build system. The issue is that
FPC generates near call (22 bits) on SPARC machines instead of long
calls (32 bits). This prevent huge applications like Lazarus to link.

The reason this appears only after splitting the packages is that now
Lazarus is built with all components and not only a short list. This
leads to have a largest binary and thus triggering this link error.

A quick workaround will be to reduce the number of components to be
shipped with Lazarus for sparc platform until this bug is resolved by
FPC team.

Cheers,
Mazen,

The issue with make files seems to be that the make files shipped in

during the construction of lazarus-src the fpcmake was called without

Using FPC 2.2.0, it is possible, but still tricky to create a DLL executable.
This will be fixed in next releases hopefully.
Here is a brief example showing how to create a DLL executable. You can either
change your make files or wait for -XD to be fixed. This is planned for future

Bug#471385: Wengophone crashes whenever initiating a call

2008-03-18 Thread Mazen NEIFER
Package: wengophone
Version: 2.1.2.dfsg0-2
Severity: grave

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
After starting Wengophone, just try to initiate a call (123 for example). Then
you will not be able to hear the message and when you will hangup it will crash
immediately.

Bug#454091: Should ask for confirmationbefore closing tabs

2007-12-02 Thread Mazen NEIFER
Package: gnome-terminal
Version: 2.18.3-1
Severity: wishlist

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
When closing a tab, gnome terminal doesn't ask for confirmation. This may lead
to close application when using mouse to change between tabs by clicking on the
close icon. This happens very often when using a great number of tabs. Either a
confirmation should be added or a double click should be required to close the
tab.

Thanks,

Mazen,

Bug#450838: initrd images for sparc64 f do not allow booting machines

2007-11-11 Thread Mazen NEIFER
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.91b
Severity: critical

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

When booting, many segmentation faults are encountered and then
an ash shell prompt is given. The log complains from not being able
to mount /dev/hda2 on /root, but within the shell executing the command
mount -t ext3 /dev/hda2 /root will work.

The kernel-image package installation script seems to regenerate initrd
images for all kernel images. This prevents booting unless falling back
to old/bakuped initrd images. These will boot normally with the same kernel

As the old initrd tools are not available, this failure may be fatale for
many systems, that's why I consider this bug critical.

Bug#435256: wengophone: segfault at testcalls

2007-08-27 Thread Mazen NEIFER
wengophone package looks like if it was a snapshot of the open wengo
trunk. During last two months, it kept craching for several reasons.
However, the versions downloaded from www.wengophone.org (a .tar.bz2
package) works well with debian distributions (etch, sid,...). The
latest one was based on svn revision 12357. It doesn't have this bug
nor any other mensioned here. It runs using debian libs
(LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/local/wengophone).
According to Debian policy, packages should be built based on an
official release after 10 days the software is released by tis
developpers. Please ensure native Debian packages are working, or just
remove them until they have an acceptable state.

Thanks,

Bug#429257: asks for file Arabicore.sty while provide arabicore.sty

for latex package named Arabicore.sty while this one is provided as
arabicore.sty. This seems to be caused by the original package
sources (which was developed for windows latex). This bug prevents
using the texlive-lang-arab to produce documents. Just converting
  Arabicore.sty occurrences to arabicore.sty (4 occurrences) fixes
  the problem.

Are you sure this warrants a severity of serious? One cannot use
[arabic]{babel}, but one can still use the other parts which the
package provides: There are more style files in the arabi
subdirectory, and there's the arabtex package.

Anyway, I'll report that upstream and ask how it will be fixed
(renaming the file or adjusting the filename in arabic.ldf).

 Regards, Frank

Dear Frank,

Thanks for your fast answer.

I'm considering this bug serious because arabi package is one of most
important features of texlive-lang-arab. Working on large projects
could be very difficult with arabtex package. This bug could be
blocking users from using latex writing Arabic articles. However, if
you think this has a less priority, please feel free to change it.

Best Regards, Mazen
