Bug#611840: paraview: wrong version of .orig.tar.gz
Package: paraview Version: 3.8.1-2 Severity: normal The paraview src package seems to have a wrong .orig.tar.gz. Bug#514328: OpenFOAM-1.5 patch for paraview-3.4.0
Package: paraview Version: 3.4.0-4 Severity: normal Hello, as paraview was now built the fourth time, I would like to ask, what will happen with this patch? As I mentioned above the actual OpenFOAM reader for paraview-3.4.0-4, which is activated at compile time and thus accessible through the GUI and python interfaces, is just broken for OpenFOAM version 1.5 and higher. In detail, that means, paraview hangs and fills the memory till the process gets killed by the system, if one wants to load an OpenFOAM case. The provided patch fixes the problem, for further information you can also check this link: http://sourceforge.net/projects/of-interfaces/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#514327: RFP: openfoam -- OpenFOAM-1.5 debian package
Thank's for this information. On which upstream release relies FreeFoam? Do you also apply all patches from the 1.5.X git from OpenCFD? In general, I would say, that the build system from FreeFoam with cmake should be better than wmake. It sounds really impressive what you are doing or have done in the past. But to really get benefit from your work, you had to persuade OpenCFD Ltd. and Wikki Ltd. that FreeFoam with cmake is the better build environment than wmake. I think Michael has done such attempt already in the past (http://openfoam.cfd-online.com/forum/messages/1/10610.html?1232610557). Otherwise all your work is valueless or has to be done twice, if a new upstream release is published. Or is the conversion from standard OpenFOAM to FreeFoam 100% automatic? My personal minimal setup on OpenFOAM environment variables are: export PATH=/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/bin:/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/applications/bin:${PATH} export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/lib/openmpi:/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/lib:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH} export WM_PROJECT_INST_DIR= export WM_PROJECT_DIR=/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5 The first two are ok, but I don't know why OpenFOAM needs the last two. If they are not set, I got an segmentation fault. Furthermore you should install all header files into /usr/include/FreeFoam. So that the user can link against the {Free,Open}Foam libraries and build his own Top-Level solver, utility or additional library. In case you did not see the message I also sent to 514...@bugs.debian.org and you might be interested. We hope to issue next week. There is a 'fork' of OpenFoam: FreeFoam (http://sourceforge.net/projects/freefoam/), done by Michael Wild and me. The changes are in the building (using CMake), installation using LSB: (/usr/lib/FreeFoam/*, /usr/bin/* , /etc/FreeFoam), and usage (no ENVIRONMENTAL settings needed. It seems to work fine, but we are still testing it. I already have had a look at Paraview and cdbs technology (which is new to me) how I might be able to deb FreeFoam. The files have not yet been uploaded to sf.net or at the repo.or.cz git repository. Michael asked me to wait with publishing the software (he holds the sf account) It has been 1 month I had the last contact with Michael and he did not respond last week. I will try again and eventually issue FreeFoam on the git repository. Gerber -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Unfortunately, the package doesn't build. If you have time, any help is very appreciated. See the debian scientific computing team and the svn repository. Then we can apply this patch. Well basically I got the debian directory from http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-scicomp/paraview/trunk/debian ~6 weeks ago and applied the following patches: install.patch vtkFFMPEGWriter.patch paraview-3.4.0-OpenFOAM-48.patch And then I was able to build it on ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10. on x86 and amd64 machines each. I don't have a debian machine running at the time, so I can't test it under debian. But maybe you can get my debian source package from launchpad and test it under debian as well. Bug#514328: [Pkg-scicomp-devel] Bug#514328: OpenFOAM-1.5 patch for paraview-3.4.0
I've briefly glanced in the past at OpenFOAM packaging, and decided that it would be a huge task, mostly because coaxing OpenFOAM to obey Debian and Ubuntu policy is going to be a very difficult task. Besides having a very arcane build system and being a monster package, it also has some very weird usage expecting to be run under its own user with many environment variables set. How did you address those issues? I will answer to this question right here, but maybe we can further discuss howto packaging OpenFOAM at bug 514327. I'm interested in your opinons and suggestions. Yes, the actual openfoam-1.5 package is not 100% FHS, Debian and Ubuntu policy conform. It's an first atempt in packaging OpenFOAM. And I think it is better to have a dirty debian package, which is fully removeable, instead of doing the installation by hand. Yes, in order to use OpenFOAM you have to source /usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/etc/bashrc (if you are using the bash) to set up the paths correctly. But no, you don't need an extra user for doing that. You can watch also all my patches to get OpenFOAM compiling in an automatic way and check the debian/rules file how I did it. I don't have tested OpenFOAM without sourcing the OpenFOAM-1.5/etc/bashrc, but maybe you only will need to setup the following paths to get OpenFOAM-1.5 running correctly (but as I said, this is untested): PATH=/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/bin:/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/applications/bin:${PATH} LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/lib:/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/lib/openmpi:/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/lib/dummy:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH} __ Deutschlands größte Online-Videothek schenkt Ihnen 12.000 Videos!* http://entertainment.web.de/de/entertainment/maxdome/index.html -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. You can get an actual result of the patched paraview-3.4.0 with OpenFOAM-1.5 reader from my ubuntu ppa: https://launchpad.net/~oli-borm/+archive/ppa It should also be possible to compile the paraview-3.4.0 source package on debian. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers intrepid-updates APT policy: (500, 'intrepid-updates'), (500, 'intrepid-security'), (500, 'intrepid') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.27-11-generic (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages paraview depends on: ii libavcodec51 3:0.svn20080206-12ubuntu3 ffmpeg codec library ii libavformat52 3:0.svn20080206-12ubuntu3 ffmpeg file format library ii libavutil493:0.svn20080206-12ubuntu3 ffmpeg utility library ii libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc11:4.3.2-1ubuntu12 GCC support library ii libgl1-mesa-gl 7.2-1ubuntu2 A free implementation of the OpenG ii libglu1-mesa [ 7.2-1ubuntu2 The OpenGL utility library (GLU) ii libhdf5-openmp 1.6.6-4ubuntu1Hierarchical Data Format 5 (HDF5) ii libice62:1.0.4-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libopenmpi11.2.7~rc2-1ubuntu2high performance message passing l ii libqt4-assista 4.4.3-0ubuntu1.1 Qt 4 assistant module ii libqt4-network 4.4.3-0ubuntu1.1 Qt 4 network module ii libqt4-sql 4.4.3-0ubuntu1.1 Qt 4 SQL module ii libqt4-xml 4.4.3-0ubuntu1.1 Qt 4 XML module ii libqtcore4 4.4.3-0ubuntu1.1 Qt 4 core module ii libqtgui4 4.4.3-0ubuntu1.1 Qt 4 GUI module ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-2 X11 Session Management library ii libstdc++6 4.3.2-1ubuntu12 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 2:1.1.5-2ubuntu1.1X11 client-side library ii libxext6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxt6 1:1.0.5-3 X11 toolkit intrinsics library ii python2.5 2.5.2-11.1ubuntu1 An interactive high-level object-o ii qt4-dev-tools 4.4.3-0ubuntu1.1 Qt 4 development tools Versions of packages paraview recommends: pn openmpi-bin none (no description available) ii qt4-dev-tools 4.4.3-0ubuntu1.1 Qt 4 development tools -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#514327: openfoam: OpenFOAM-1.5 debian package
Package: openfoam Version: 1.5-1~ppa1~intrepid1 Severity: wishlist *** Please type your report below this line *** Hello, I just want to inform you, that I've packed OpenFOAM-1.5 for Ubuntu 8.10. You can get the debian package from my PPA: https://launchpad.net/~oli-borm/+archive/ppa Even if I build the debian package on ubuntu you should be able (in theory) to compile the openfoam debian source package on debian, if you follow these instructions (http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/apt-howto/ch-sourcehandling.en.html). But in practice I've got actually problems with gcc-4.3.2, see therefore also (http://openfoam.cfd-online.com/forum/messages/126/10948.html). OpenFOAM-1.5 is installed into /usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5 In order to set the OpenFOAM paths correctly, you should add this line to your ~/.bashrc: startOF15=source /usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/etc/bashrc and each time you want to use OpenFOAM you have to execute startOF15. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers intrepid-updates APT policy: (500, 'intrepid-updates'), (500, 'intrepid-security'), (500, 'intrepid') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.27-11-generic (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages openfoam depends on: ii libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu8GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc1 1:4.3.2-1ubuntu12GCC support library ii libmgridgen 1.0-1~ppa2~intrepid1 ParMGridGen library - runtime file ii libncurses5 5.6+20071124-1ubuntu2Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libopenmpi1 1.2.7~rc2-1ubuntu2 high performance message passing l ii libparmetis3.1 3.1-10 Parallel Graph Partitioning and Sp ii libreadline55.2-3build1 GNU readline and history libraries ii libstdc++6 4.3.2-1ubuntu12 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii openssh-server 1:5.1p1-3ubuntu1 secure shell server, an rshd repla ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-12ubuntu1 compression library - runtime openfoam recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#506518: calculix-ccx-1.8 packed as deb package
As I am not a debian developer, I cannot put this into debian. But if somebody want to maintain CalculiX in debian, he can use my package as basis (if he want). Furthermore debian users should be able to compile the source package for debian and just use them to install CalculiX on debian systems.
