Package: isoquery Version: 1.4-1 Severity: wishlist Dear maintenance/Devel team, while we can enter countrycodes be or belgi or Belg in countrycodes and the program was searching/finding and showing the correct info, this feature is totally deleted in isoquery; this is a major problem when you doesn't exactly know how to write some countynames in English since that's not my motherlanguage: please do implement this feature again in the replacement program for countrycodes, isoquery. Bug#658370: wishlist: pllease provide hardcursor option for blind people
Package: testdisk Version: 6.9-1.1 Severity: wishlist Hello, when trying to use testdisk and photorec to recuperate data from a friend's PC I noted that there was no cursor mark on my braille-display, this is due to the fact that there is no feature to force the app to follow the hardcursor; this causes mistakes in choosing for Intel or Xbox or so type because there isn't any X or - or _ _ or [ ] at the real cursor position: please can you inspire you from cfdisk's -a option to provide a similar -a or other option so that we can see a - or zo where the cursor is pointing for choices ? Bug#604974: WISHLIST: does not start without monitor connected
Package: Xorg Version: 1:7.3+20 Severity: wishlist Hello Xorg team, a blind friend of mine does not use any monitor. Until now he was able to use he's previously installed Debian Gnu/Linux system, without screen connected. Since he changed the motherboard, the system was able to boot, but no longer able to switch from x to console ! Solution: he bought a monitor and now it does works, but ... let me say this is an expensive solution, isn't it ? The solution: plese do urgently implement xorg to be able to boot without any monitor connected: - useful for blind users - useful for people using PC's remotely as server. BTW why does this had worked before ? is it a feature that was deleted inside Xorg recently ? Package: udev Version: 0.125-7+lenny3 Severity: important Hi, due to a bug autogenerated by udev, I was unable to use my cdrom device until I recommented myself the two first entries of my /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules concerning my second (dvd) device present in my pc tour: this is the current file: I'd like to see this fixed since that problems wasn't present in my previous (Sarge) system: # This file was automatically generated by the /lib/udev/write_cd_rules # program, probably run by the cd-aliases-generator.rules rules file. # # You can modify it, as long as you keep each rule on a single line # and set the $GENERATED variable. # PLEXTOR_CD-R_PX-W4012A (pci-:00:1f.1-ide-1:0) ENV{ID_CDROM}==?*, ENV{ID_PATH}==pci-:00:1f.1-ide-1:0, SYMLINK+=cdrom, ENV{GENERATED}=1 ENV{ID_CDROM}==?*, ENV{ID_PATH}==pci-:00:1f.1-ide-1:0, SYMLINK+=cdrw, ENV{GENERATED}=1 # PIONEER_DVD-RW_DVR-107D (pci-:00:1f.1-ide-1:1) # (recommented by me) #ENV{ID_CDROM}==?*, ENV{ID_PATH}==pci-:00:1f.1-ide-1:1, SYMLINK+=cdrom, ENV{GENERATED}=1 # (recommented by me) #ENV{ID_CDROM}==?*, ENV{ID_PATH}==pci-:00:1f.1-ide-1:1, SYMLINK+=cdrw, ENV{GENERATED}=1 ENV{ID_CDROM}==?*, ENV{ID_PATH}==pci-:00:1f.1-ide-1:1, SYMLINK+=dvd, ENV{GENERATED}=1 ENV{ID_CDROM}==?*, ENV{ID_PATH}==pci-:00:1f.1-ide-1:1, SYMLINK+=dvdrw, ENV{GENERATED}=1 As you shall see, the wrong settings caused the /dev/cdr* links to link to my second device (hdd) that will have an effect on applications supposed finding /dev/Cdrom connected to hdc (to the cd unit). -- Package-specific info: -- /etc/udev/rules.d/: /etc/udev/rules.d/: total 188 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1547 jan 15 2009 024_hpmud.rules lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root19 fév 28 2009 025_libgphoto2.rules - ../libgphoto2.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 839 déc 22 2008 11-hplj10xx.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 115 jan 15 2009 45-hplip.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3801 aoû 25 22:10 50-udev.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 115 jan 15 2009 55-hpmud.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1601 aoû 25 22:10 60-persistent-input.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4873 aoû 25 22:10 60-persistent-storage.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1488 aoû 25 22:10 60-persistent-storage-tape.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 523 sep 19 2008 60-persistent-v4l.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 951 nov 26 19:31 70-persistent-cd.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 375 fév 28 2009 70-persistent-net.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 452 sep 19 2008 75-cd-aliases-generator.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4427 aoû 25 22:10 75-persistent-net-generator.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2507 aoû 25 22:10 80-drivers.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root82 jan 7 2009 90-hal.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4559 aoû 25 22:10 91-permissions.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 593 sep 19 2008 95-late.rules lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root16 fév 28 2009 libmtp7.rules - ../libmtp7.rules lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root15 sep 3 20:44 libnjb.rules - ../libnjb.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 949 fév 28 2009 .saf.70-persistent-cd.rules.orig lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root19 fév 28 2009 z60_alsa-utils.rules - ../alsa-utils.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2656 jun 15 2008 z60_libpisock9.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 14883 oct 20 2008 z60_libsane-extras.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 72908 déc 9 2008 z60_libsane.rules -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6661 déc 2 2007 z60_xserver-xorg-input-wacom.rules -- /sys/: /sys/block/fd0/dev /sys/block/hda/dev /sys/block/hda/hda1/dev /sys/block/hda/hda2/dev /sys/block/hda/hda5/dev /sys/block/hda/hda6/dev /sys/block/hda/hda7/dev /sys/block/hda/hda8/dev /sys/block/hda/hda9/dev /sys/block/hdb/dev /sys/block/hdb/hdb10/dev /sys/block/hdb/hdb1/dev /sys/block/hdb/hdb2/dev /sys/block/hdb/hdb3/dev /sys/block/hdb/hdb4/dev /sys/block/hdb/hdb5/dev /sys/block/hdb/hdb6/dev /sys/block/hdb/hdb7/dev /sys/block/hdb/hdb8/dev /sys/block/hdb/hdb9/dev /sys/block/hdc/dev /sys/block/hdd/dev /sys/block/loop0/dev /sys/block/loop1/dev /sys/block/loop2/dev /sys/block/loop3/dev /sys/block/loop4/dev /sys/block/loop5/dev /sys/block/loop6/dev /sys/block/loop7/dev /sys/block/ram0/dev /sys/block/ram10/dev /sys/block/ram11/dev /sys/block/ram12/dev /sys/block/ram13/dev /sys/block/ram14/dev /sys/block/ram15/dev /sys/block/ram1/dev /sys/block/ram2/dev /sys/block/ram3/dev /sys/block/ram4/dev /sys/block/ram5/dev /sys/block/ram6/dev /sys/block/ram7/dev /sys/block/ram8/dev /sys/block/ram9/dev /sys/block/sda/dev /sys/block/sdb/dev /sys/block/sdb/sdb1/dev /sys/class/bsg/2:0:5:0/dev /sys/class/bsg/3:0:0:0/dev /sys/class/drm/card0/dev /sys/class/hidraw/hidraw0/dev /sys/class/hidraw/hidraw1/dev /sys/class/input/input0/event0/dev /sys/class/input/input1/event1/dev /sys/class/input/input2/event2/dev /sys/class/input/input2/mouse0/dev /sys/class/input/input3/event3/dev /sys/class/input/input4/event4/dev /sys/class/input/input5/event5/dev /sys/class/input/mice/dev /sys/class/misc/agpgart/dev /sys/class/misc/cpu_dma_latency/dev /sys/class/misc/fuse/dev /sys/class/misc/hpet/dev

Bug#526656: wishlist: set default printer as default not cups-pdf after 1st config
Package: cups Version: 1.3.8-1lenny5 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Hi, I am not sure the qualification of this report is as severe as mentionned, but it may cause problems of usability while it's description is a little subtile detail regarding cups itself: after you configure cups for the first time, you'll be able at that moment to print a testpage; when you reboot the system later, you'll see you are no longer able to use the printer at all; reason: cups had turned your Brother, Canon or whatever printer into cups-pdf, and that doesn't work at all. I declare it here as severe since this may have an impact for normal users on the same computer who aren't administrators or hadn't such permissions to modify and fix the problem. The problem is that you have to re-enter in cups' configuration menu and resete each time the Brother, Canon or so printer as default. This is not specifi to Debian but also concerns the other deb-based distro named Ubuntu. Feel free to report this to cups if the problem is general and may concern CUPS in any cases. Anyway the impact is important, even if the bug is very little. Thanx for fixing this for all CUPS/distros. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.1 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_BE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_BE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages cups depends on: ii adduser 3.110add and remove users and groups ii cups-common 1.3.8-1lenny5Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii debconf [debcon 1.5.24 Debian configuration management sy ii ghostscript 8.62.dfsg.1-3.2lenny1The GPL Ghostscript PostScript/PDF ii libavahi-compat 0.6.23-3lenny1 Avahi Apple Bonjour compatibility ii libc6 2.7-18 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcups21.3.8-1lenny5Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii libcupsimage2 1.3.8-1lenny5Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.1-5 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libgnutls26 2.4.2-6+lenny1 the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii libkrb531.6.dfsg.4~beta1-5lenny1 MIT Kerberos runtime libraries ii libldap-2.4-2 2.4.11-1 OpenLDAP libraries ii libpam0g1.0.1-5+lenny1 Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libpaper1 1.1.23+nmu1 library for handling paper charact ii libslp1 1.2.1-7.5OpenSLP libraries ii lsb-base3.2-20 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii perl-modules5.10.0-19Core Perl modules ii poppler-utils [ 0.8.7-1 PDF utilitites (based on libpopple ii procps 1:3.2.7-11 /proc file system utilities ii ssl-cert1.0.23 simple debconf wrapper for OpenSSL Versions of packages cups recommends: pn avahi-utils none (no description available) ii cups-client 1.3.8-1lenny5 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii foomatic-filters 3.0.2-20080211-3.2 OpenPrinting printer support - fil pn smbclient none (no description available) Versions of packages cups suggests: ii cups-bsd1.3.8-1lenny5Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii cups-driver-gutenprint 5.0.2-4 printer drivers for CUPS pn cups-pdfnone (no description available) ii foomatic-db 20080211-2+nmu1 OpenPrinting printer support - dat ii foomatic-db-engine 3.0.2-20080211-1 OpenPrinting printer support - pro ii hplip 2.8.6.b-4HP Linux Printing and Imaging Syst pn xpdf-korean | xpdf-japa none (no description available) -- debconf information excluded -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#516723: wishlist: adding Desktop Screen Reader to the tasksel menu
Package: tasksel Version: 2.78 Severity: wishlist Hello team, it would be nice to provide near the other offers inside the tasksel menu an entry that you may call Desktop Screen Reader or Desktop Assistive Technology who will mark the gnome-orca to be installed to during the install process. Since this would be optional, even as mysql or webserver etc are optional too (not installed / marked by every user) this may not cause dammage to sighted persons for now, while it may be useful for blind persons to know that Orca+Espeak is there as well as Gnome itself. This may also help sighted persons from LUGs, teachers, friends aso who need to help a sighted person while they don't know what exactly must be added herefore. Bug#390941: saytime doesn't speak clearly under ALSA
Package: saytime Version: 1.0-19 Severity: important Hi, on a very recent PC - Intel D945GNT with ALSA as sound system- the current saytime package talks like this: the time is s, nine n, twenty y pm, and d twenty six seconds It seems that this should be the driver (cf. hda_intel): turning the chipset off in the bios and replacing the audio chip with a SBLive emu10k1 results in resolving that problem, but under ALSA saytime is slower to talk than under OSS. I'd like to see better samples in it, talking a little bit faster (more human), and fixing each slowness problem of it. I also not understand while I can play wav or mp3 files even under oss or alsa, while using saytime causes so much differences between oss or alsa, + so much quality deterioration depending on the driver who is used by alsa or oss: maybe I can sugges to build a unique au file who is simply sended to the dsp, just as timidity turns a midi file into audio sended to the dsp: its fluent, it's clear, and dealy times are becoming smaller ans smaller since pcs are currently over 3gHz of speed. Package: joe Version: 2.8-23 Severity: important Hi, once again, I still continue to use an older Joe version due to the fact, already reported on #273495, that ctrl+kg ctrl+kk DOES NOT work from bottom to top in version 3.0, and TOTALLY doesn't work in 3.1; please can someone give a follow-up to this bug report, even to its author, since this is a great handicap for using Joe. Bug#314210: grub: wishlist, beep (\007) in menu.lst for blind people
Package: grub Version: 0.95+cvs20040624-17 Severity: wishlist Hi, the latest menu.lst provided with grub is very nice commented; but I miss some very useful / blindfriendly extra: a beep code sos that a blind knows always that he/she is at the grub boot: prompt. Please can you provide such a beep code \007 (or echo -e 007 if you prefer) with a comment in the automatic generated menu.lst. I personaly realized some template but the beep is here on the first title line, and then it beeps twice: at the prompt, then when it continues with booting. The template is available here: http://brlspeak.net/blinux/my.menu.lst ThanX. Bug#314204: timidity: wishlist, blindfriendly ncurses implementation needed
Package: timidity Version: 2.13.2-6 Severity: wishlist Hi, the interactive timidity doesn't seem to have a cursor with some precise function; for blind people like me it should be very nice if the cursor should point the .mid file currently available. At this moment there is no movement, no one, so the interactive version is unusable. Bug#314212: brltty: fixing the restart-stop-restart loop problem after debconf
Package: brltty Version: 3.4.1-4 Severity: normal Hi, this problem exists already for more than 3 years and have NEVER been fixed until now: after someone upgrades to a newer brltty, even if you ask for configuring it by hand or with debconf, the current brltty who is active (and necessary for a blind to be able to run such an upgrade or conf) is not killed, but the new version is started. This causes a loop as if it should stop - restart - stop - restart - etc at ethernam!!! The problem should probably be in the /etc/init.d/brltty PLEASE fix this ASAP, since this could be a major problem for novices, they will think the distrib hangs, while it isn't. Please once again fix this soon. ThanX very much.
