Bug#704891: Wishlist: feature present in countrycodes, deleted in isoquery

2013-04-07 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: isoquery
Version: 1.4-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear maintenance/Devel team,

while we can enter countrycodes be or belgi or Belg in countrycodes and the
program was searching/finding and showing the correct info, this feature is
totally deleted in isoquery;
this is a major problem when you doesn't exactly know how to write some
countynames in English since that's not my motherlanguage:
please do implement this feature again in the replacement program for
countrycodes, isoquery.
Thank you.

Bug#658370: wishlist: pllease provide hardcursor option for blind people

2012-02-02 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: testdisk
Version: 6.9-1.1
Severity: wishlist

Hello,
when trying to use testdisk and photorec to recuperate data from a friend's
PC I noted that there was no cursor mark on my braille-display, this is due
to the fact that there is no feature to force the app to follow the
hardcursor; this causes mistakes in choosing for Intel or Xbox or so type
because there isn't any X or - or _ _ or [ ] at the real cursor position:
please can you inspire you from cfdisk's -a option to provide a similar -a
or other option so that we can see a - or zo where the cursor is pointing
for choices ?

Without any - or other indication testdisk/+photorec's usage is quite
undermined (except when assistated).

I hope you can help, thanks in advance.

Could you please ask your friend to try with such contents for

That seems to do the job here (even though I can't really disconnect
my laptop's integrated screen). If that fails, please send the new
 xorg log.

Sorry it doesn't work:
- Gnome session starts okay,
- Orca (screen reader) starts too
- but he's NOT authorized to switch from Gnome to any console (ctrl+alt+f*)
and that was the orig. problem he pointed me to submit a reportbug for.

I haven't been around for long, so I can't really tell. Could you
please get us an Xorg log when the issue happens? Maybe it's just
about specifying a dummy monitor, maybe using the
 xserver-xorg-video-dummy driver?

That package was already installed, but it seems not to work for this issue;

Bug#604974: WISHLIST: does not start without monitor connected

2010-11-25 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: Xorg
Version: 1:7.3+20
Severity: wishlist

Hello Xorg team,

a blind friend of mine does not use any monitor. Until now he was able to
use he's previously installed Debian Gnu/Linux system, without screen
connected.
Since he changed the motherboard, the system was able to boot, but no longer
able to switch from x to console !
Solution: he bought a monitor and now it does works, but ... let me say this
is an expensive solution, isn't it ?
The solution: plese do urgently implement xorg to be able to boot without
any monitor connected:
- useful for blind users
- useful for people using PC's remotely as server.
BTW why does this had worked before ? is it a feature that was deleted
inside Xorg recently ?

Greetings,
Osvaldo.

P.S. the fact that you managed to start the server doesn't mean that it
would do anything useful -- client is the one which instructs the server

I'm not so involved to understand too much technical things;
I just try to give more feedback based on the commands you asked me to try !

finding /dev/Cdrom connected to hdc (to the cd unit).

Bug#555658: at: invalid option -- t caused by backwards incompatibility

2009-11-10 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: at
Version: 3.1.10.2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

A friend of mine wrote a script for recording streams from radiostations; in
that script he did used at but his version on Ubuntu 9.10 is at 3.1.11 while
the at on Debian Lenny and Ubuntu LTS is 3.1.9:
there seems to be an incompatibility between both versions and that
incompatibility renders the at package unusable because the scripts using it
are made incompatible, so unusable.

The error is still the same:
at: invalid option -- t
and then the Usage: lines
But nothing shall help as long as there isn't an universal param ...

PLEASE fix this problem by providing us with a standard for ALL versiosn
compatible timespec parameter;
or Debian should urgently publish a more recent version of at !

Bug#531202: gcom 0.3-1 not supporting Icon 225 (GlobeTrotter) USB stick

2009-05-30 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: gcom

Hi, I boughta Mobistar.be Internet Everywhere kit containing the Icon 225

But there's no /dev/ttyUSB0 / other info in dmesg, so running gcom with it

Bug#526656: wishlist: set default printer as default not cups-pdf after 1st config

2009-05-02 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: cups
Version: 1.3.8-1lenny5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

I am not sure the qualification of this report is as severe as mentionned,
but it may cause problems of usability while it's description is a little
subtile detail regarding cups itself:
after you configure cups for the first time, you'll be able at that moment
to print a testpage;
when you reboot the system later, you'll see you are no longer able to use
the printer at all; reason:
cups had turned your Brother, Canon or whatever printer into cups-pdf, and
that doesn't work at all.
I declare it here as severe since this may have an impact for normal users
on the same computer who aren't administrators or hadn't such permissions to
modify and fix the problem.
The problem is that you have to re-enter in cups' configuration menu and
resete each time the Brother, Canon or so printer as default.
This is not specifi to Debian but also concerns the other deb-based distro
named Ubuntu.
Feel free to report this to cups if the problem is general and may concern
CUPS in any cases.
Anyway the impact is important, even if the bug is very little.

Thanx for fixing this for all CUPS/distros.

Bug#526310: pmount: provide it by default instead of option

2009-04-30 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: pmount
Version: 0.9.18-2
Severity: normal

I discovered that pmount isn't provided by default under Debian Lenny;
it would be nice if so.

Btw pmount doesn't mount automatically after you added it with
apt/aptitude/whatever: system had to be rebooted.

In both cases, provide it by default : providing it resolves the second
problem too, because pmount should already be present by default.

Bug#516722: aumix -q said error while opening mixer: file or dir doesn't exist

2009-02-23 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: aumix
Version: 2.8-21
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,
I unfortunately have to remove aumix because it gives an error from the 1st
start or with aumix -q:

Script started on ma 23 feb 2009 11:30:02 CET
o...@asteroid:~$ aumix -q
aumix: fout tijdens openen mixer: Bestand of map bestaat niet
(error while opening mixer: file or directory doesn't exist)

I did some other tests:
o...@asteroid:~$ which aumix
/usr/bin/aumix
o...@asteroid:~$ ldd /usr/bin/aumix
linux-gate.so.1 = (0xb7fe2000)
libgpm.so.2 = /usr/lib/libgpm.so.2 (0xb7fcd000)

libc.so.6 = /lib/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 (0xb7e3f000)
libdl.so.2 = /lib/i686/cmov/libdl.so.2 (0xb7e3b000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7fe3000)
So I tried a last test but without results:
o...@asteroid:~$ strace aumix -q
bash: strace: command not found
o...@asteroid:~$ exit
exit
Script done on ma 23 feb 2009 11:32:21 CET

Important: since amixer is really unfriendly, I prefer and urge to have
again a good working aumix.
Note that I tried to install an older aumix version on Debian Lenny, with
exactly the same error message.

Bug#516723: wishlist: adding Desktop Screen Reader to the tasksel menu

2009-02-23 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: tasksel
Version: 2.78
Severity: wishlist

Hello team,

it would be nice to provide near the other offers inside the tasksel menu an
entry that you may call
Desktop Screen Reader
or
Desktop Assistive Technology
who will mark the gnome-orca to be installed to during the install process.

Since this would be optional, even as mysql or webserver etc are optional
too (not installed / marked by every user) this may not cause dammage to
sighted persons for now, while it may be useful for blind persons to know
that Orca+Espeak is there as well as Gnome itself.

This may also help sighted persons from LUGs, teachers, friends aso who need
to help a sighted person while they don't know what exactly must be added
herefore.

This will also complete a little bit the brltty support who is already
present now on the D-I.

Please do provide this entry if posible.

Bug#516726: wishlist: turn show cursor no default to yes (blindfriendly wishlist)

2009-02-23 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: lynx
Version: 2.8.7dev9-2.1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

each time I install blindly a Debian system I have blindly to change
options, and that's made very uneasy to me due to the simple fact that show
cursor is default set to Off.
Please please change this deefiniteoly to On:
- sighted persons will be able to turn it off much more easier than we have
to do
- as easy as we turn off show colors now

In both cases, changing things are easier for sighted persons while it's
every time blindly that we have to set the cursor to On.

Thanx

Bug#425697: /usr/bin/openvt: fails to open 8th tty if you're not root (Etch)

2007-05-23 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: console-tools

File: /usr/bin/openvt

Hi,

this concerns Etch on another PC I'm not using yet:
when you do openvt for a 7th console or higher you must be root;
I think this is not the normal way of working since I need to be able to
do that as user.
Please consider it is very necessary to fix this since the problem isn't
recent but already exist for long time.

On the other hand, it of course doesn't undermine the hole working
distrib, of course.

Bug#408945: wishlist: publishing of a new kernel-image for Sarge needed asap

2007-01-29 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386
Version: 2.6.8-16sarge1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

some modules such as the spca5xx for some webcams have problems with the
current generic kernel-image-2.6.8:
I was able to compile from tarball 20060501 at http://mxhaard.free.fr/
but it doesn't work. There is a patch but if I'd like to install a
recent version of spca, I need a kern higher than 2.6.11.
On the other hand there is now gspcav1 but the minimal kernel
requiremetns are higher than 2.6.8:

it would be nice publishing asap a new kernel-image for the Sarge, since
my wife and some friends prefer continuing using it for its stability.

Bug#403908: tetex-frogg: lettre.cls and default ins

2006-12-20 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: tetex-frogg
Version: 0.4-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

in the past I was able to edit a lettre with the lettre.cls without
having to move commands under the \begin{letter}, that's my first point.

The second is that IMHO it is not normal (usual) that you should have
default settings like a default name, address, phone number or so, instead
of having the free choice.

That's why I submit this under a [wishlist]; feel free to recathegorize
this under severity level 4.

Bug#394799: brltty upgrade overwrites brltty.conf while unwanted

2006-10-23 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: brltty
Version: 3.7.2-4
Severity: normal

Hi,
yesterday during an Etch packages upgrade I encountered the next problems:
1: no any question asked by debconf
2 while /etc/brltty.conf were overwritten by the default new brltty.conf,
causing to not have braille when i rebooted.

Another problem is, that dpkg-reconfigure brltty have no effect, it simply
prompts the prompt:~# again:
please if brltty.conf found, then ask if replacement is needed; or leave it
unchanged, as it is in general for many other apps.

Note: my Alva Satellite is connected on ttyS0, after the upgrade it was
turned to USB while I hadn't asked for it.

Yes, an upgrade of brltty, not a migration or dist upgrade.

OK, then it must prefer to keep the current conf.

This, however, shouldn't happen, since /etc/brltty.conf is a
 configuration file (as indicated in
 /var/lib/dpkg/info/brltty.conffiles). It's indeed odd that
dpkg didn't ask you the usual Fichier de configuration

 depuis l'installation.

Voilà une phrase que j'ai pas compris.

Bug#390941: saytime doesn't speak clearly under ALSA

2006-10-03 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: saytime
Version: 1.0-19
Severity: important

Hi, on a very recent PC - Intel D945GNT with ALSA as sound system- the
current saytime package talks like this:
the time is s, nine n, twenty y pm, and d twenty six seconds

It seems that this should be the driver (cf. hda_intel): turning the chipset
off in the bios and replacing the audio chip with a SBLive emu10k1 results
in resolving that problem, but under ALSA saytime is slower to talk than
under OSS.

I'd like to see better samples in it, talking a little bit faster (more
human), and fixing each slowness problem of it.

I also not understand while I can play wav or mp3 files even under oss or
alsa, while using saytime causes so much differences between oss or alsa, +
so much quality deterioration depending on the driver who is used by alsa or
oss:
maybe I can sugges to build a unique au file who is simply sended to the
dsp, just as timidity turns a midi file into audio sended to the dsp: its
fluent, it's clear, and dealy times are becoming smaller ans smaller since
pcs are currently over 3gHz of speed.

Bug#383526: /usr/sbin/apt-setup: apt-setup turned sources.list's stable urls into testing while unexpected

2006-08-17 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa

Hi,
I'd like to inform you that I was very surprized to seee testing urls in
my /etc/apt/sources.list afte I only runned apt-setup to try another
mirror (skynet.be instead of belnet.be).
I saw it just in time, but a friend of mine did not; so now his system
is migrated to a testing for the Debian mirrors urls, and unfortunately
he can't downgrade again to a stable system: please check this and fix
it before many other people causes their Debian to be turned into a
testing one while not expected.

Bug#333329: lynx-ssl: lynx can't work with typo forms on wiki and other pages while links2 does+...

2005-10-11 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: lynx-ssl
Version: 1:2.8.4.1b-3.1
Severity: important

Hi,
no matter which version of the Lynx browser you are using, there is a
problem STILL NOT FIXED FOR YEARS, permitting you to upload files on a
wiki or Yahoo account from the browser;
this might be a html 2.x support problem who wasn't fixed yet, but is
fixed in browsers such as Links2
(tested on a pbwiki farm with a statically linked bin of links-2.1pre7).

Please I cant hurry enough about fixing urgently (sorry URGENTLY) this
bug since it is VERY VERY IMPORTANT.

This problem concerns all including the older ssl version of lynx.

Bug#333339: elinks: does not save the link numbering parameter while this is very blindfriendly

2005-10-11 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: elinks
Version: 0.10.6
Severity: important

Hi,
I had compiled a version on my own, hoping it could do more than the
lates .deb package 0.10.4:
there is NO apparent difference;
problem:
while you can save the links numbering in Links2 or Lynx, you ever have
to toggle it on in ELinks.

Please can you implement this, feedbing back to the authors about this
problem, and publish an update containing this feature to be saved?

Bug#327850: urlview: remove back latest looping cursor (wishlist)

2005-09-12 Thread Osvaldo La Rosa
Package: urlview
Version: 0.9-15
Severity: wishlist

Hi, in the latest version of urlview the cursor goes from the 1st http
url to the last and when pressing cursor down instead of stopping it
begins again from top, and viceversa:
this is absolutely a big problem for blind people - totally
blindunfriendly while the previous version doesn''t got this problem;
a good suggestion acceptable for all shoudl be to return to the previous
option wheer top and bottom are limited, but of course where the current
blindunfriendly feature shoudl be proposed as option.

Urlview is daily used so it is impossible to use it easily when the
cursor goes from the last url again to the first: braille devices only
show one line at the time, in the previous urlview the pc beep told us
taht we were at the top or bottom of hte url list.

Greetings,
Osvaldo La Rosa.

Bug#314611: wishlist: .deb package of v. 0.5.4 needed due to presence of blindfriendly feature

2005-06-17 Thread Osvaldo La rosa
Package: abook
Version: 0.5.3-3
Severity: wishlist

Hi,
I read that version 0.5.4 (currently only available by CVS) contains the
feature set show_cursor=true in the abook config file; this feature is
absolutely important for people who uses a braille display, since the
hardware cursor is followed by the braille display.
Please study about publishing asap a Debian package of this version
containing that feature.

Thanks.

Bug#314612: wishlist: urgently better doc with example for booting kern 2.6.x

2005-06-17 Thread Osvaldo La rosa
Package: loadlin
Version: 1.6c.debspecfix-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I miss any documentation and examples about how does loadlin should be able
to boot from a DOS partition a system using the kernel 2.6 + initrd.img.

Please do provide such examples and explanations.

At this moment I read on the internet:
- that loadlin wasn't able to boot a 2.6 kernel,
- that loadlin was able to boot a 2.6 kernel.

Fix the situation, make the documentation more complete; thanks in advance.

Bug#314199: joe: Joe 3.x still with NO WORKING ctrl+k b ctrl+k k

2005-06-15 Thread Osvaldo La rosa
Package: joe

Hi,
once again, I still continue to use an older Joe version due to the fact,
already reported on #273495, that ctrl+kg ctrl+kk DOES NOT work from bottom
to top in version 3.0, and TOTALLY doesn't work in 3.1;
please can someone give a follow-up to this bug report, even to its author,
since this is a great handicap for using Joe.

Bug#314210: grub: wishlist, beep (\007) in menu.lst for blind people

2005-06-15 Thread Osvaldo La rosa
Package: grub
Version: 0.95+cvs20040624-17
Severity: wishlist

Hi,
the latest menu.lst provided with grub is very nice commented; but I miss
some very useful / blindfriendly extra: a beep code sos that a blind knows
always that he/she is at the grub boot: prompt.
Please can you provide such a beep code \007
(or echo -e 007 if you prefer) with a comment in the automatic generated
menu.lst.

I personaly realized some template but the beep is here on the first title
line, and then it beeps twice: at the prompt, then when it continues with
booting.
The template is available here:
http://brlspeak.net/blinux/my.menu.lst

ThanX.

2005-06-15 Thread Osvaldo La rosa
Package: timidity
Version: 2.13.2-6

Hi,
the interactive timidity doesn't seem to have a cursor with some precise
function; for blind people like me it should be very nice if the cursor
should point the .mid file currently available.
At this moment there is no movement, no one, so the interactive version is
unusable.

Bug#314212: brltty: fixing the restart-stop-restart loop problem after debconf

2005-06-15 Thread Osvaldo La rosa
Package: brltty
Version: 3.4.1-4
Severity: normal

Hi,
this problem exists already for more than 3 years and have NEVER been fixed
until now: after someone upgrades to a newer brltty, even if you ask for
configuring it by hand or with debconf, the current brltty who is active
(and necessary for a blind to be able to run such an upgrade or conf) is not
killed, but the new version is started.

This causes a loop as if it should stop - restart - stop - restart - etc at
ethernam!!!
The problem should probably be in the /etc/init.d/brltty

PLEASE fix this ASAP, since this could be a major problem for novices, they
will think the distrib hangs, while it isn't.

Please once again fix this soon.

ThanX very much.

Osvaldo La Rosa.
