I also ran into this (or behaviour remarkably similar) when I enable
autologin. Once I disabled it, GDM displays the greeter screen again.

Bug#689829: I would second this request

2012-10-11 Thread Paul C. Bryan
Dear maintainers:

I would also like to add my voice to this request to replace iceweasel
as the browser that gnome-core depends on. It's not a GNOME subproject,
nor does it seem to recognize GNOME's system settings, for example the
default mail application.

Bug#649131: rhino: Incorrect classpath prevents running on AMD64

This may be related to bug #645470, as I see similar errors in the console.

My rationale for classifying this as important rather than normal
is because this is very commonly used functionality that has broken.

segmentation fault. Reverted to 0.44.1-1 and saving file was successful.

Bug#369729: Not just in KDE

2006-06-04 Thread Paul C. Bryan
This problem with OpenOffice.org occurs in GNOME as well, with
libfreetype 6 2.2.1-2. GNOME apps look fine, except for OOo, which
suffered this problem since 2.2.1-1 was added to etch.

The fix to use bytecode interpreter seems to have had no effect on
improving OOo font rendering. The prescribed change to ~/.fonts.conf has
no effect either.

I have tested with 2.2.1-2 and font quality remains the same with
OpenOffice.org 2.x. GNOME setting for font quality is for: greyscale,
full hinting. It appears in some cases applications are rendering only
in medium hinting. Was full hinting enabled in freetype?

Bug#352003: Another Application

2006-02-14 Thread Paul C. Bryan
Another application that does not cause gnome-screensaver to recognize
activity, therefore spurious activation: VMware.

Now, in this case, I was using keyboard only and not mouse, and when I
did move the mouse, the screensaver deactivated. Armagetron,
keyboard-only. Could this simply be gnome-screensaver not recognizing
keyboard activity?

Bug#352170: gnome-screensaver: screensaver won't lock (elapse idle time) during suspend

2006-02-09 Thread Paul C. Bryan
Package: gnome-screensaver
Version: 0.0.24-1
Severity: normal

When a notebook with gnome-screensaver is suspended (in my case, with
ACPI), the time that elapses during suspend does not seem to be accounted
for as idle time. Therefore, when system resumes, system is not locked,
even though the requisite amount of time has elapsed.

Comparing to xscreensaver, resuming after the requisite amount of idle
time results in a locked screensaver. I believe this is the desired
behavior, as the alternative is that GNOME must be locked before a
suspend to ensure it wakes up locked after idle time.

Bug#352003: when application captures keyboard/mouse, screensaver spuriously activates

2006-02-08 Thread Paul C. Bryan
Package: gnome-screensaver
Version: 0.0.24-1
Severity: normal

When running a full-screen keyboard/mouse capturing application (apt-get
install armagetron), gnome-screensaver believes the system is idle and
activates despite the fact that keys have been depressed nearly constantly
to that point.

Is it reasonable to expect a screensaver resets its idle timer, despite an
application capturing the keyboard and mouse? Is there an API such
applications should use to deactivate the screensaver, therefore I should
file this bug under armagetron?

2005-08-18 Thread Paul C. Bryan
1. This is not a serious policy issue (severity: serious) but an
important bug (severity: important).

2. The problem is a syntax error in the for list, in which the last
item contains a backslash when it shouldn't.

3. Look at bug # 323854 for a patch/workaround until this is fixed in
the package.

In the upstream bugzilla, there is a bug [1] reported with the itip
formatter that crashes Evolution. In that bug report, there is a patch
[2] which I have successfully used since April 2005 to fix this bug.
Please consider including this patch in the Debian maintained package
until it is fixed upstream.

Bug#293589: I too confirm

2005-02-04 Thread Paul C. Bryan
I too confirm this problem.

Additional notes:

1. While this bug is serious, I don't think it warrants a severity level
of serious. It does not constitute a serious violation of Debian policy
(i.e. violate a must or required directive).

2. Since Evolution hasn't changed recently, I doubt that this is an
Evolution bug. I tend to believe something else it depends on has
changed, and has caused this new problem.

3. CPU goes to near 100% on system when Evolution freezes.

4. It doesn't seem to happen on all of my systems.
