Hello! On Mon, 27 Jun 2005, Sjoerd Simons wrote: I killed hald, closed drive bays, compiled and run that program. If that isn't the case it's not explainable from userspace No, I did not specify /dev/fd0. Could you try debian's 2.6.11 just to be sure it's not your kernel version? Bug#315542: hal: opens all disc bays and make floppy drive tick
Package: hal Version: 0.4.8-2 Severity: normal I am just wondering is this hal package (and more specifically hald program) supposed to open all cdrom and dvd drives disc bays (and keep opening them if you closed them manually) and make floppy drive tick? If it does what it is supposed to do, why gnome package depends on hal? I don't want to keep my drives open gathering dust and hear annoying ticking noise from floppy drive. Bug#315542: hal: opens all disc bays and make floppy drive tick
Hi! On Thu, 23 Jun 2005, Sjoerd Simons wrote: Are you sure it's hal that's doing this? $ sudo apt-get install hal ... Setting up hal (0.4.8-2) ... ... Starting system message bus: dbus-1. Starting Hardware abstraction layer: hald. and all drives open. I close manually, they keep opening again. $ sudo killall hald I close drives again and they keep being closed. $ sudo /usr/sbin/hald And drives open their disk bays instantly. So I am pretty sure that hald has atleast something to do with this. It polls the cdrom's status on a regular basis, but they shouldn't open when doing this. Also hal doesn't access the floppy drive, so it's kinda weird that it would cause floppydrive ticks..
