Bug#838635: fp-utils-3.0.0: Installation of an outdated version of listings.sty
Package: fp-utils-3.0.0 Severity: critical Justification: breaks unrelated software Dear Maintainer, I just found out that after installing free pascal, some of my LaTeX slides stopped compiling properly. After some work, it turns out that the reason is the presence of this file, installed by fp-utils-3.0.0 in a LaTex path I still use /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/fpc-3.0.0/listings.sty This is an horribly outdated version of the listings LaTeX package (dates back to 2002 according to the header), that misses many of the features used in modern version, hence breaking LaTeX compilation of unrelated files. I did not investigate further, and just removed all of free pascal: you might want to look at why such a file is present, and find a way to reach the same objectives without breaking the rest of the LaTeX distribution Cheers -- Roberto *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? * What was the outcome of this action? * What outcome did you expect instead? *** End of the template - remove these template lines *** -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.5.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=ia_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ia_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.utf8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system)
Bug#820709: konqueror: No file view, only file size view is available!

Bug#794110: plasma-workspace: plasmashell segmentation fault (11) every few minutes (and restarted)
Package: plasma-workspace Version: 4:5.4.3-2 Followup-For: Bug #794110 Dear Maintainer, I confirm the bug is still present. Plasmashell crashes randomly, and, particularly annoyingly, it kills all konsole instances that were open at the moment of the crash, so after it is relaunched one looses the content of all open terminals. I also find sometimes several instances of plasmashell running after a few crashes. This is making the desktop environment close to unusable, as most time is spent restarting/resetting the environment instead of working. A release fixing all this would be much appreciated. Bug#694155: nvidia-vdpau-driver:amd64: Only native resolution on DFP available with recent NVidia driver version
Dear Andreas, I have tested 304.88 and am currently using 310.19-0, and everything stays the same: I just got used to fiddle with the ViewPortIn and Panning values to get the required resolution on the internal screen, and I had to do some nitty gritty tricks to supersed the driver's now strict checks on EDID, that prevent it to work with overhead projectors connected through long VGA cables :-( Unfortunately, this is really an upstream change, apparently, and I believe Debian cannot do anything about it, so it's fine to close the bug, and I apologize for the noise. -- Roberto On Tue, Oct 22, 2013 at 03:16:04PM +0200, Andreas Beckmann wrote: On 2012-11-25 12:00, Roberto Di Cosmo wrote: After careful investigation, this issue comes from an upstream design decision in the 3xx driver series. Bug#694155: nvidia-vdpau-driver:amd64: Only native resolution on DFP available with recent NVidia driver version
After careful investigation, this issue comes from an upstream design decision in the 3xx driver series. In this new series of the NVidia driver, for reasons that completely escape my understanding, the user is directly exposed to the (powerful) details of the inner working of the GPU pipeline, like RasterSize, ViewPortIn, ViewPortOut etc. See the following url for more explanations from one of the driver's programmers. http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2012-September/096933.html A positive consequence is that one is now free to program arbitrary zoom/rotation/panning on any display device. The negative consequence is that if you want *just* to adapt your LCD resolution to that of an external beamer to show your slides in clone mode, you are now going to have to play with these parameters which are way more obscure than the traditional 1024x768 modes that did show up in nvidia-settings with pre-3xx drivers. For example, I have to click on the Advanced button in the X server display configuration window, and then type 1024x768 in the ViewPortIn and Panning fields, and leave alone the ViewPortOut field. [I checked this functionality on the 310 version in experimental, where it is supported properly; it did not seem to work on the 304.60-1 driver, which is no longer relevant anyway] Did not find out how to do the same using xrandr yet. A good tutorial on how to get the basic old functionality with these new features would be a big plus. The file /tmp/dump.edsp-0.9.7.5 is produced using the stock apt version 0.9.7.5, and it drops all or part of conflicts, replaces, breaks metadata (only en excerpt of the differences is shown). --- /tmp/dump.edsp-0.9.7.5-old-edsp 2012-10-01 17:04:49.337116542 +0200 +++ /tmp/dump.edsp-0.9.7.5 2012-10-01 16:59:29.011624376 +0200 @@ -296,22 +296,20 @@ Package: gcc-4.1-doc Architecture: all Version: 4.1.2.nf2-3 APT-ID: 28225 Priority: optional Section: non-free/doc APT-Pin: 700 APT-Candidate: yes Depends: gcc-doc-base (= 4.1.1.nf3-1) Suggests: doc-base -Conflicts: gcc-4.1 ( 4.1.1-11), gcc-docs ( 2.95.2) -Replaces: gcc (= 2.7.2.3-4.3), gcc-4.1 ( 4.1.1-11), gcc-docs ( 2.95.2) @@ -698,33 +694,33 @@ Package: console-common Architecture: all Version: 0.7.85 APT-ID: 2663 Priority: optional Section: utils APT-Pin: 700 Depends: debconf (= 0.5) | debconf-2.0, debianutils (= 1.13), console-data, kbd | console-tools (= 1:0.2.3dbs-54), lsb-base (= 3.0) Pre-Depends: debconf | debconf-2.0 Conflicts: console-data ( 1999.08.29-20) -Replaces: console-data ( 1999.08.29-18), console-tools ( 1:0.2.3-18), kbd ( 0.99-12) +Replaces: console-data ( 1999.08.29-18), console-tools ( 1:0.2.3-18) @@ -824,22 +819,20 @@ Package: fonts-indic Architecture: all Version: 2:1.1 APT-ID: 34353 Priority: optional Section: metapackages APT-Pin: 760 APT-Candidate: yes Depends: fonts-beng, fonts-deva, fonts-gujr, fonts-guru, fonts-knda, fonts-mlym, fonts-orya, fonts-pagul, fonts-taml, fonts-telu -Replaces: ttf-indic-fonts -Breaks: ttf-indic-fonts ( 2:1.0) @@ -1365,37 +1358,35 @@ Package: x11-apps Architecture: amd64 Version: 7.5+5 Installed: yes APT-ID: 26922 Priority: optional Section: x11 APT-Pin: 700 APT-Automatic: yes Depends: libc6 (= 2.7), libpng12-0 (= 1.2.13-4), libsm6, libx11-6 (= 0), libxaw7, libxcursor1 ( 1.1.2), libxext6 (= 0), libxft2 ( 2.1.1), libxkbfile1, libxmu6, libxmuu1, libxrender1, libxt6, cpp Pre-Depends: x11-common (= 1:7.0.0) Suggests: mesa-utils -Conflicts: bitmap, oclock, x11perf, xbiff, xcalc, xclipboard, xclock, xconsole, xcursorgen, xditview, xeyes, xgc, xload, xlogo, xmag, xman, xmore, xwd, xwud -Replaces: bitmap, oclock, x11perf, xbase-clients (= 1:7.2.ds2-3), xbiff, xcalc, xclipboard, xclock, xconsole, xcursorgen, xditview, xeyes, xgc, xload, xlogo, xmag, xman, xmore, xwd, xwud +Replaces: xbase-clients (= 1:7.2.ds2-3) @@ -2218,21 +2203,20 @@ Package: ident2 Architecture: amd64 Version: 1.07-1.1 APT-ID: 9208 Priority: extra Section: net APT-Pin: 760 APT-Candidate: yes Depends: netbase, adduser, update-inetd, libc6 (= 2.7) -Conflicts: ident-server Provides: ident-server @@ -2323,22 +2307,20 @@ Package: libdesktop-agnostic-dev Architecture: amd64 Version: 0.3.92+dfsg-1 APT-ID: 43137 Priority: extra Section: libdevel APT-Pin: 760 APT-Candidate: yes Depends: libdesktop-agnostic0 (= 0.3.92+dfsg-1), libglib2.0-dev, libgtk2.0-dev Suggests: glade (= 3) | glade-3 -Conflicts: vala-desktop-agnostic -Replaces: vala-desktop-agnostic @@ -2607,49 +2589,43 @@ Package: vsftpd Architecture: amd64 Version: 3.0.2-1 APT-ID: 65919 Priority: extra Section: net APT-Pin: 600 Depends: debconf (= 0.5) | debconf-2.0, libc6 (= 2.7), libcap2 (= 2.10), libpam0g (= 0.99.7.1), libssl1.0.0 (= 1.0.0), libwrap0 (= 7.6-4~), adduser, libpam-modules, netbase Recommends: logrotate -Conflicts: ftp-server -Replaces: ftp-server Provides: ftp-server Package: vsftpd Architecture: amd64 Version: 2.3.5-3 APT-ID: 59359 Priority: extra Section: net APT-Pin: 760 APT-Candidate: yes Depends: debconf (= 0.5) | debconf-2.0, libc6 (= 2.7), libcap2 (= 2.10), libpam0g (= 0.99.7.1), libssl1.0.0 (= 1.0.0), libwrap0 (= 7.6-4~), adduser, libpam-modules, netbase Recommends: logrotate -Conflicts: ftp-server -Replaces: ftp-server Provides: ftp-server Package: vsftpd Architecture: amd64 Version: 2.3.2-3+squeeze2 APT-ID: 26424 Priority: extra Section: net APT-Pin: 700 Depends: debconf (= 0.5) | debconf-2.0, libc6 (= 2.7), libcap2 (= 2.10), libpam0g (= 0.99.7.1), libssl0.9.8 (= 0.9.8m-1), libwrap0 (= 7.6-4~), adduser, libpam-modules, netbase Recommends: logrotate -Conflicts: ftp-server -Replaces: ftp-server Provides: ftp-server @@ -3207,22 +3183,22 @@ Package: ruby-phonon

Bug#668027: ocaml-batteries-included: Lots of mismatches between what the documentation says and what the package does.
Package: ocaml-batteries-included Version: 1.4.1-1 Severity: important The documentation included in libbatteries-ocaml-doc does not correspond to what the libraries actually do, and what the packages contain: it really needs a thorough check. Bug#639627: sympa: Wrong value for EXPLDIR in Constants.pm
Package: sympa Severity: important The sympa package in Debian uses the wrong value for EXPLDIR in Constants.pm; per sympa documentation about virtual hosts, this directory must be the list_data subdirectory of the sympa data directory, see http://www.sympa.org/manual/virtual-hosts For the Debian configured package, this would mean /var/lib/sympa/list_data Instead, the Constants.pm file shipped with all versions of the sympa package I could check contains the line use constant EXPLDIR= '/var/lib/sympa'; This is a significant deviation from the architecture of the file system used in sympa upstream, and has two major negative effects: - it renders the official documentation useless: I spent several hours tracking down this issue, and I am sure any other user willing to exploit sympa's virtual hosts facility will have a similar headache; - it has potential dangerous consequences: the /var/lib/sympa/list_data must only contain virtual host domains, and the sympa code iterates on the files therein; /var/lib/sympa contains a lot of other data unrelated to virtual hosts I would suggest checking carefully where this erroneous configuration comes from (looking at the sources of the modified Debian sympa I could not find where list_data disappears) -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (750, 'testing'), (700, 'stable'), (600, 'unstable'), (550, 'experimental'), (500, 'stable-updates') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.38-1-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.utf8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Package: ocamldsort Version: 0.14.4-2+b2 Severity: important Tags: patch upstream The old code in dep_parse.ml only works properly on lines which are terminated by a space; this error has gone unnoticed for years, since ocamldep did produce a trailing space on each dependency line. Bug#616604: xserver-xorg: Precise information on nvidia 3100M / Dell latitude E6510 X problem after fresh squeeze install.
Package: xserver-xorg Version: 1:7.5+8 Severity: normal I confirm that a fresh squeeze install on a Dell Latitude E6510 with Nvidia NVS 3100 leaves the user with a machine booting into a blank screen, which makes the system pretty unusable. This is due to the fact that - the default module used to handle the Nvidia card is 'nouveau' - nouveau is configured by the installer by default with modeswitch enabled - the version of nouveau shipped with squeeze has serious problems with this Nvidia card The workaround is the following: - manually edit the boot line under grub to add the option nouveau.modeswitch=0 this will allow you to boot into a workable machine with a decent Vesa support - once there, you can install the proprietary nvidia driver by apt-get install nvidia-glx To be on the safe side, the Debian installer should configure machines with the NVS 3100M with this option for the kernel by default. I hope it helps --Roberto [By the way, I am experiencing very unsatisfactory suspend/resume even with the proprietary Nvidia driver, and tried to update to a more recent kernel, that shows up in the information below, which is not the information one would get after a fresh install. Bug#614765: liboss-salsa-asound2: dependencies problems with libasound2
liboss-salsa-asound2 tries to provide a replacement to libasound2 by declaring a Provides: libasound2 and a Conflicts: libasound2 Unfortunately, 1889 packages in squeeze absolutely need (we say 'strongly depend on' [2]) the real package libasound2, and not the virtual one (because the declared dependencies are versioned); actually, for the same reason, a total of 2531 packages are incompatible (we say 'strongly conflict' [1]) with liboss-salsa-asound2. On the other hand, there is *no* package that strongly depends on liboss-salsa-asound2, so the problem is with liboss-salsa-asound2, and not with the other packages. I may humbly suggest one of two solutions: - either drop liboss-salsa-asound2 - or change the metadata by simply allowing liboss-salsa-asound2 to overwrite files belonging to libasound2 (if this is enough that /usr/lib/libasound.so.2 is the one contained in this package for everything to work fine) Hope this helps --Roberto P.S.: this problem has been discovered automatically using the algorithms for computing strong dependencies and strong conflicts among packages, described in the papers [1] and [2] below. Bug#600447: Non UTF8/En locales bug reappeared (renders hplip useless for non US/UTF8 users)
Package: hplip Version: 3.10.6-1 Severity: important Tags: patch In 3.10.6-1 there is still a serious issue with CUPS *requiring* either an US-ASCII locale, or a UTF8 locale. As a consequence, all programs communicating with CUPS to discuver printers/install printers, and the like, fail miserably with errors of various kind, like hp-setup not finding the printer (#515720), or not finding the proper PPD files, hp-clean complaining that there is no printer, etc. These extra errors *all* come from the inability of the hplip tools to communicate properly with CUPS, because the locale forces an encoding of the messages in a format that CUPS refuses to interpret. According to what is said in #471228, CUPS is not going to change this behaviour, so hplip needs to do either: * be patched to convert everything to UTF8 no matter what the user's locale is, as done in hplip-2.8.12-force-utf8.patch submitted by Tiago Salem Herrmann (ref: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162196) that was used in 3.9.2, but is gone in 3.10.6-1 * or at least pop up a warning box if it detects a non UTF8 locale telling the user that it will not work with CUPS without an UTF8 locale (and saving the user, the Debian maintainers, and a lot of other people a sizeable amount of time) -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.utf8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages hplip depends on: ii adduser 3.112 add and remove users and groups ii coreutils 8.5-1 GNU core utilities ii cups 1.4.4-3Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii cups-client 1.4.4-3Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii hplip-cups3.10.6-1 HP Linux Printing and Imaging - CU ii hplip-data3.10.6-1 HP Linux Printing and Imaging - da ii libc6 2.11.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcups2 1.4.4-3Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.24-3 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libhpmud0 3.10.6-1 HP Multi-Point Transport Driver (h ii libsane 1.0.21-4 API library for scanners ii libsane-hpaio 3.10.6-1 HP SANE backend for multi-function ii libssl0.9.8 0.9.8o-2 SSL shared libraries ii lsb-base 3.2-23.1 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii policykit-1 0.96-3 framework for managing administrat ii python2.6.5-13 interactive high-level object-orie ii python-dbus 0.83.1-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii python-imaging1.1.7-2Python Imaging Library ii python-pexpect2.3-1 Python module for automating inter ii python-support1.0.10 automated rebuilding support for P Versions of packages hplip recommends: ii avahi-daemon 0.6.25-1 Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD daemon ii sane-utils1.0.21-4 API library for scanners -- utilit Versions of packages hplip suggests: pn hplip-docnone (no description available) ii hplip-gui3.10.6-1HP Linux Printing and Imaging - GU ii kdeprint 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-6+lenny1 print system for KDE ii python-notify0.1.1-2+b2 Python bindings for libnotify -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
