Bug#486936: vlc: xvid playback broken no suitable decoder module

2008-06-18 Thread Rodney Gordon II
Package: vlc
Version: 0.8.6.e-2.3+b1
Severity: normal

After re-installing my debian system, I noticed that the latest VLC
packages in unstable are not working properly with XVID.

[0557] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc
`XVID'. VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

Downgrading to 0.8.6.c-6 solves this issue.

Thanks,

Bug#468745: linux-image-2.6.24-1-686: new with 2.6.24: rtc operations seem to fail on asus p5ld2/pentium d 830

2008-02-29 Thread Rodney Gordon II
Package: linux-image-2.6.24-1-686
Version: 2.6.24-4
Severity: normal

A few days ago I started using the new packages for 2.6.24 in sid and it
seems all rtc access to my system is being timed out.

On boot, the setting system to rtc fails. On shutdown, the rtc sync
also fails.

I don't know where to start looking for the problem, perhaps you could
give me a few tests to run?

My clock also seems to be acting oddly, I use NTP/NTPclient so I have
the right time except sometimes it seems to skip ahead by 2s.

TIA

Bug#423951: libcairo2: cairo crashes on multiple apps: cairo_destroy: Assertion `cr-ref_count 0' failed.

2007-05-14 Thread Rodney Gordon II
Package: libcairo2
Version: 1.4.6-1
Severity: normal

Cairo lately has been seeming to crash on multiple applications, most
notably a python application using pygtk and gimp.

Using gimp as example, the error I am given is:
gimp: /home/dajobe/dev/debian/cairo/libcairo-1.4.6/src/cairo.c:261:
cairo_destroy: Assertion `cr-ref_count 0' failed.
gimp: terminated: Aborted

(script-fu:4289): LibGimpBase-WARNING **: script-fu: wire_read(): error

This is when I choose the color selector window for the foreground
color..

The pygtk application crashes with the same line.

I don't know what exactly is triggering this, but my buddy using nearly
the same setup doesn't have this problem.

I am using debian/sid with a compiled murrine 0.53 gtk engine, with a
fairly simple theme. I have noticed that this crash doesn't happen with
a pixmap theme, though, very odd. My buddy using a compiled murrine 0.53
also, but does not have this crash.

Hope this helps.

I have also tried kernel 2.6.18-4-686 just for kicks, no bearing in the
kernel I am using it seems.

Bug#423588: pidgin doesn't show status text to other AIM clients

2007-05-12 Thread Rodney Gordon II
Package: pidgin
Version: 2.0.0+dfsg.1-3
Severity: normal

Pidgin's status window (often where music players such as exaile put
text in for currently playing music) doesn't show up on other AIM
clients.

AFAIK this worked fine with GAIM. Is there something different happening
here?

Thanks! :)

If a music player needs to be updated to add Pidgin support, then that
needs to be taken up with said music player.

Sorry, bad wording..

Not window, but the little box of text that comes up at the bottom of
the Pidgin window with text in it when an application puts a status text
to Pidgin..

I am using Exaile SVN with Pidgin support in the status plugin, the text
shows up at the bottom of the Pidgin user list window yet nobody on AIM
can see it .. it should show up below my name in their list. I have not
tested other IM services. This works however on the old GAIM, where it
does the same thing but people can see it.

I hope this explains better. If not, then please ignore this request..
Because I cannot find another way to explain it, I do not know the exact
wording.

Thanks.

Bug#392298: firefox: When highlighting selection, FF now only prints one page

2006-10-10 Thread Rodney Gordon II
Package: firefox
Version: 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.7-2
Severity: normal

Recent upgrade to firefox has been causing some odd printing problems..
I notice a printing patch in apt-listchanges so this may be the cause..

Example:
Go to
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/10/10/BAGERLM3RR15.DTL
(ouch btw.. heh)
Highlight the article all the way down, print selection.

Result: One page is printed.

Thanks!

Bug#365963: new firefox has odd error when called with a url

2006-05-03 Thread Rodney Gordon II
Package: firefox
Version: 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.3-1
Severity: important

New firefox build for 1.5.0.3, reproducably, gives an error when called
with a URL when it is already running.

$ firefox http://google.com

.. pops up a window Firefox is already running, but is not responding.
To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process,
or restart your system.

Indeed firefox is running, but it IS responding. I have closed and
reopened firefox many times since the update, no luck.

With my current setup for FF this should open a new window with that
URL.

Thanks.

Bug#365282: xserver-xorg 7.0.15 fails installation (pre-inst exit status 10)

2006-04-28 Thread Rodney Gordon II
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.0.14
Severity: important

xserver-xorg 7.0.15 seems to be uninstallable.

I have moved the files it gives warnings on out of the way, and it still
fails. Seems to be in the pre-inst script, which I took a peek at but
was far too complex for me to deduce exactly what is happening ;)

Thanks.

Wow, is this the week of grumpy debian admins?
Sheesh.

I thought your quote that's what you get for running experimental
wasn't that helpful also. We are people who are testing the software..
If we may post a slightly redundant post, or early post, that doesn't
hold ground for being chewed out.

Yes, I know to give a resonable time between releases.
No, I do not think updating a bug # is such a crime.

So, I give a heads up just bumping the bug # up now, I say 1 LINE, and
I get this return? Give me a break dude.

Some of you guys need to chill out sometimes.

First, sorry for my awful reply time on this issue, I had alot of
computer problems in the past week(s), I am truely sorry.

I have reinstalled in the time since we talked, and now I am running
sid i386. Funny thing is, at least with my hardware, digikam doesn't
even show the image on i386 :)

In good news, this -4 patch works in i386, where -3 does not show an
image in i386 either.. So, I cannot confirm this patch will work on
amd64 but at least in i386, which had the same problem for me, it is
fixed.

Thanks for all your work,

Yes, it does.

Uhm, that's bad! dcraw is only necessary for RAW images, not jpegs.
We had a similar problem with PPC. There was an endian problem
 (this was fixed in -3).

   http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=121646
   http://bugs.debian.org/351931

But now you have a similar problem with AMD64 :( Can you append
tany picture (small ones prefered ;) that are shown black
to the bug report or post an URL where we can download it?

It is, indeed, a jpeg as I checked/viewed it with gqview fine.
Here it is, a pic of my cat ;) (2.4MB, not shrunk because I wanted to
give you the exact data that can reproduce this.
http://spherevision.org/visual/testfordigikam.jpg

When you visit the album with konqueror, is the image identified
as jpeg by konqueror? Just to be sure: kuickview, gwenview or
other image displayer can display the jpeg, right?

Have verified, it's a jpeg, straight from my Canon, xferd from
digikam.

Looks like we're missing an app. Thanks!

Yeah, digikam only recommends dcraw ... uhm wait ... no it
does not :( This is now fixed in svn.

 Gilles: see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=351931
for the complete thread. The jpeg/dcraw patch used in digikam is
 your first version, using kfilemetainfo.

 http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-kde/kde-extras/digikam/trunk/debian/patches/10_kdesvn_r507545_fix_jpeg_on_ppc.diff?op=filerev=0sc=0

But when konqueror identifies it as jpeg then kfilemetainfo should
be okay, right? Can the be another 64bit problem somewhere?

 Achim

Odd thing is that in the last version, it worked fine..

Bug#325078: new flac release breaks decoding on many files

2005-08-25 Thread Rodney Gordon II
Package: flac
Version: 1.1.2-2
Severity: important

With this version of flac, it fails decoding on some files and loops
with some odd operation I catched in an strace.

Out of one set I have (I collect live sets of shows in flac) about 3 of
the files, after decoding with flac -d filename.flac it seems the
cursor in the terminal resets to the top left and it just loops from
there with this output from strace:

...cont...
write(2, \10, ) = 1
write(2, \10, ) = 1
write(2, \10, ) = 1
write(2, \10, ) = 1
...cont...

As far as I know there's nothing wrong with these files and this only
seemed to start happening about a version or two ago, because I just got
to this set to process and I noticed this.

This also happens on many different sets of mine, rendering this flac
version pretty unusable.

Thanks.

Bug#321031: libgphoto2-2: postinst needs modified to create usermap

2005-08-02 Thread Rodney Gordon II
Package: libgphoto2-2
Version: 2.1.6-1
Severity: normal

I have discovered a small bug that has been preventing my libgphoto2-2
working as non-root in the postinst script.

Line 22 and 23 should have just $PACKAGE .. not $PACKAGE-$MAJOR ..
libgphoto2-2 was not creating the usermap and therefor hotplug was
failing to switch permissions on the port. The directory for
print-usb-usermap, at least on my testing system, is /usr/lib/gphoto2 --
not gphoto2-2 as postinst would think with $PACKAGE-$MAJOR .. therefor
effectively not being properly setup with hotplug.

2005-05-22 Thread Rodney Gordon II
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0.4-2
Severity: normal

Using the extension manager, a bunch of my extensions have new versions
out. Trying to update them results in ff just sitting there with the
circle spinning in the update window trying to 'update extensions' ..
But never seems to download anything or update anything.

I have tried with -safe-mode, no change.

Thanks

This are extensions you installed from .xpi's, not from Debian
 packages, correct?

You are correct.

It just sits at this screen and spins indefinately.. both on my wife's
session and mine.

As said above, -safe-mode with the extensions off still fails.

Used to work fine a few versions back, but I don't recall the exact
versions, sorry.

Oof, forgot to add the fix.

suexec2 should be set root:www-data

Bug#301895: openoffice.org: font size is always +1 of size set in gnome

2005-03-28 Thread Rodney Gordon II
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1.1.3-8
Severity: normal

On _my_ session, the size of font that openoffice uses is always the
size of my gnome setting +1, but on my wife's session, it looks fine.
I've been pulling my hair out trying to find out why, but I've
temporarly given up and filing a report, maybe I can help track this
down or maybe someone reading the reports can help out.

Trying to adjust the font size for the UI in OO's setup doesn't work
either.

All gnome support pkgs are installed:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg --get-selections | grep openoffice
openoffice.org install
openoffice.org-bin install
openoffice.org-debian-files install
openoffice.org-evolutioninstall
openoffice.org-gnomevfs install

openoffice.org-hyphenation-en-usinstall
openoffice.org-l10n-en install
openoffice.org-mimelnk install
openoffice.org-thesaurus-en-us install

Thank-you !
