Bug#648615: Latest update of nautilus in unstable has removed everything from desktop.

2011-11-13 Thread Scott Ingram
If my data is not where I put it, and I am unable to find it in order
to complete tasks, then it is GONE.

And since I am unable to find the personal data that you so blithely
assume the upgrade did not wipe out, stop abusing my intelligence.

Bug#648615: Latest update of nautilus in unstable has removed everything from desktop.

2011-11-13 Thread Scott Ingram
Package: nautilus
Version: 3.0.2-4
Severity: critical
Tags: sid
Justification: causes serious data loss

All desktop links are gone, including many menu choices in "System." Some have
been found by explicitly invoking nautilus, but am unable to determine if all
desktop items are preserved in another location. Unable to determine if hal is
mounting/unmounting removable media correctly.

Bug#533579: base-passwd install fails with fatal "syntax error: unknown user `mpd'"

2009-06-18 Thread Scott Ingram
Package: base-passwd
Version: 3.5.20

During i386 install from debian-501-i386-netinst.iso, a Debootstrap
warning appears after trying to run "chroot /target dpkg --force-depends
--install var/cache/apt/archives/base-passwd_3.5.20_i386.deb
var/cache/apt/archives/base-files_5lenny2_i386.deb" during base package
installation.

Attempting to run the command manually in a shell in the
/target/var/cache/apt/archives directory, "chroot /target dpkg
--force-depends --install base-passwd_3.5.20_i386.deb" results in this
error message:

dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting:
syntax error: unknown user `mpd' in statoverride file

The installation is unable to proceed any further, and has to be
aborted.

There are existing /home, /usr, /tmp and /var directories on the target
machine from a previous install. The / directory has been reformatted.

md5sum of debian-501-i386-netinst.iso is bce5d45233e563e65e1ca43e8bd9f2b5,
and is dated 14-Apr-2009 in the
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/5.0.1/i386/iso-cd/
directory.
