Bug#296692: gri-el: incompatible with new version of gv

2005-02-23 Thread Scott Webster
Package: gri-el
Version: 2.12.9-1
Severity: normal

This version of gri-el does not function correctly with version
3.6.1-7 of gv. I don't remember exactly when, but the gv command line
syntax changed recently, such that the gri-view command in gri-mode.el
no longer functions correctly.

In particular, the "-landscape" command seems to have been replaced with
"--orientation=landscape"; "-scale N" with "--scale=N"; "-watch" with
"--watch"; "-noantialias" with "--noantialias"; etc.

Another problem is that (at least in this context) gv now requires the
full path to the ps file to be sent, meaning that at least lines
2893-2894 of gri-mode.el need to be changed to remove the
"file-name-nondirectory" command which strips the path while
constructing the "psfile" name.

I almost attached a patch, but I really don't know what I'm doing in
lisp, and there are probably other issues to be resolved. The basic
point is that if the gv support is to work with the new gv,
gri-mode.el needs to be updated. I guess part of the problem is that
this package doesn't have any dependencies on a gv package version,
but since this is only a small part of the functionality I'm not
sure that is appropriate.

Bug#298767: bibtex2html: fails to use macros with -m option

2005-03-09 Thread Scott Webster
Package: bibtex2html
Version: 1.75-1
Severity: normal

Version 1.75-1 of bibtex2html doesn't seem to properly read LaTeX
macros from a file anymore. Here is an example of trying to use a
macro to substitute in a journal name:

---

$ cat test.bib
@Article{Test2004,
  Author = {Webster},
  Title  = {Test title},
  Journal= {\test},
  Volume = {100},
  Pages  = {1000},
  Year   = {2004},
  Abstract   = {Test abstract.},
}
$ cat macros.tex
\def \test {"Correctly substituted journal name."}
$ bibtex2html -m macros.tex test.bib
macro: test = "Correctly substituted journal name."
This is bibtex2html version 1.75, compiled on Sun Feb 6 16:17:24 CET

Reading test.bib...ok (1 entries).
calling BibTeX...This is BibTeX, Version 0.99c (Web2C 7.4.5)
The top-level auxiliary file: /tmp/bib2htmle3c704.aux

So it does seem to read the macro, but then later complains with
"Unknown macro: \test". The generated .html files don't contain
anything where the substituted text should be.

I could be doing something wrong here, but this same setup worked with
a previous version of bibtex2html.

Bug#356047: problem with kile: cursor moves too slow

2006-06-29 Thread Scott Webster

Seems better now. We have a terminal-server setup (LTSP) and some of
the terminals still have a similar problem, but possibly it is just
due to old video cards etc. The problem doesn't seem to occur on more
modern hardware anymore.

Bug#358864: still buggy?

2007-03-15 Thread Scott Webster

I don't think this problem is fully resolved in bbpager 0.4.3-1. The
blackbox slit still enlarges to a ridiculous size when bbpager is
started with the -w switch.

The screenshot at
http://www.physics.ubc.ca/~swebster/screenshot.png
shows the appearance of the slit after bbpager is started. The pager
is in the slit, but the slit has expanded to fill the entire screen in
the vertical direction.

With most programs the slit only expands to accomodate the docked
application.  See for example:
http://www.physics.ubc.ca/~swebster/screenshot2.png
where the gkrellm and wmusic applets are docked, but the slit is only
tall enough to accomodate the two programs.

Bug#387058: medusa upgrades to entirely different package

2006-09-11 Thread Scott Webster
Package: medusa
Severity: normal

It seems that in the past medusa was a Gnome indexing application.
Now there is a new program called medusa that is a password
brute-forcer. Unfortunately it appears that systems with the old
package installed had it replaced with the new, completely different,
package without any notification (when upgrading). This seems non-ideal.

Bug#358211: chkrootkit: conf file created incorrectly

2006-03-21 Thread Scott Webster
Package: chkrootkit
Version: 0.46a-3
Severity: normal

I just installed the new version of chkrootkit. When installing, it
asked me if I wanted to not receive emails daily when only the same
issues as the previous day were found. I answered that I did NOT want
to receive duplicate emails.

I was still getting the same emails every day. My automatically
generated /etc/chkrootkit.conf file looks like:

RUN_DAILY="true"
RUN_DAILY_OPTS="-q"
LOG_FILE="/var/log/chkrootkit.log"DIFF_MODE="false"

There are two problems, one is that DIFF_MODE should be on a new
line... it does not work if it is not. Also that DIFF_MODE should be
set to true based on my answer to the configuration question. I
suppose I could have answered the question incorrectly, but maybe it
should be checked.

If I put DIFF_MODE="true" on a separate line then it works.

Bug#358864: bbpager: does not work with blackbox slit

2006-03-24 Thread Scott Webster
Package: bbpager
Version: 0.4.1b1-1
Severity: normal

bbpager does not seem to work properly with the blackbox (version
0.70.1-1.1) slit when started in withdrawn mode (-w switch).

For instance, if the slit is in a horizontal orientation and you add
bbpager, the slit enlarges to an enormous size (fills 1/4 the screen)
and the pager cannot be seen.
