Bug#1019889: When brltty is upgraded, could brltty.postinstl honor START_IN_INITRAMFS?
Package: brltty Version: 6.5-3+b1 Severity: wishlist In /etc/default/brltty the variable START_IN_INITRAMFS controls whether brltty is embedded in ramfs or not. If this still works, would it be possible that brltty.postinst honoors this variable and runs update-initramfs -u automatically when the package is upgraded? Many thanks!
Bug#977293: Read .xlsx from stdin, write .csv to stdout
Package: xlsx2csv Version: 1:0.7.6-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: upstream Dear upstream authors, Many thanks for this very convenient tool. Would it please be possible to extend is so that "-" ban be specified both as the name of the input file (meaning to read the .xlsx file from standard input) and as the name of the output file, meaning that the CSV file is written to stdout? That way the program could be used in a pipe, which would be very convenient. Of course that requires to make sure that all the other messages the program could possibly produce are written to stderr. Many thanks in advance! Sébastien.
Bug#954943: Makes virtual console 1 unusable
Package: plymouth Version: 0.9.4-2 Severity: normal Tags: upstream On my system plymouth had been installed without me noticing. At some point I realised that the first virtual console became unusable: not all keys I was pressing did work in shells and programs, whereas the other virtual consoles did continue to work properly. Further investigation (with lsof) showed that plymouth was reading /dev/tty1 concurrently with the running shell / programs. So it got some of the keypresses and that was why I had to type e.g. letters several times. For arrow keys, the escape sequences were even split, plymouth read parts of them while the other parts were read by the shell or currently running program, leading to very odd behaviours. Uninstalling plymouth solved the problem.
Bug#954837: Accessibility issues: pulsemixer very hard / impossible to use with a braille display
Package: pulsemixer Version: 1.5.0-1 Severity: important Tags: a11y upstream Dear Debian maintainers and upstream authors of pullsemixer, In its current state, pulsemixer is very difficult / impossible to use with a braille display. The two issues are: 1. The cursor is not positionned on the highlighted line. It is possible to find which line is highlighted once one knows that two equal signs get added around the bar at the right of the screen, but that requires sighted assistance to be explained and it is very unlikely that a blind user would be able to figure that out on his/her own. 2. The mute/unmute state of sources, sinks and applications seems to be rendered only by colors, making it impossible for a visually impaired user to figure it out. For sources and sinks one can obtain the information through pactl but (1) it's not that easy / intuitive and (2) I know no way at the moment to get the information for individual applications. Thanks for any help, would be happy to test any proposed patch. Sébastien.

Bug#722923: Fonts used as character sets are not supported
Package: antiword Version: 0.37-9 Severity: normal Tags: upstream Hello, In certain files, as in the attached one, a font is used to store text. Here, for instance, the text is tibetan and it is stored using the TibetanMachineWeb truetype font. The problem here is that there seems to be no way to tellantiword that the font should have an impact on how the characters are translated to UTF8. I would be interested in helping to patch the program so that this kind of file is handled corectly but would appreciate tobe able to discuss with the author, maintainer and anybody interested about the best way to do so. Bug#722346: --no-use-db option for mysqldump?
Package: mysql-client Version: 5.5.31+dfsg-1 Severity: wishlist Would it be possible to add to mysqldump a --no-use-db option similar to the --no-create-db option it already has? This would be useful when one wants to duplicate a databse. Indeed, in this situation, one wants the tablesto be inserted in a db whose name is different from the name of the original db.But when the USE originaldb line is met mysql automatically swithces to the original db, although it has ben run on the new one, so that the duplication is not done. Of course the two databases could have different access rights, so that the USE would fail, making mysql remain in the newdb, but this does not seem so clean. Bug#690831: $MANLESS environment variable and $MAN_PN substitution variable
Package: man-db Version: 2.6.3-1 Severity: wishlist Hello, The default less prompt for, say, man man, looks like this: Manual page man(1) line 1/815 4% (press h for help or q to quit) I would like to have a prompt looking like this: Manual page man(1) line 1/815 4% In other words the same prompt without the (press h for help or q to quit) part. Since I'd like this change to be permanent, I wanted to use the MANLESS variable but, as said by man man, its value will be copied verbatim into $LESS, which among other things means that $MAN_PN will not be replaced by the manual page and section number. One solution could be for me to define a shell alias such as alias man='man -r prompt ' But I'm wonderign whether there could be a better solution to achieve the desired result. Bug#645603: grub Debian package does not seem to take preseeding into account
Package: grub-pc Version: 1.99-12 Severity: normal Hello, I'm writing a script to install Debian automatically on a memory card. During the install, the memory card is in a USB card reader connected to a PC, typically the device for the card is /dev/sdb and the system partition is on /dev/sdb1. Once the system is installed, the idea is to put the card in anotehr machine and to boot on it. At boot time, though, the device corresponding to the memory card will be /dev/hda and the system partition will thus be on /dev/hda1. (it is not possible to perform the installation with the card in the computer where it will be booted later for some reasons too long to explain here). Anyway: it is in this context that I tried to use some preseeding to automate grub's installation. Ideally I'd like to be able to do the preseeding in a way that allows the package's postinst script to install grub correctly. As a fallback, it would be okay that the postinst script does not install grub on the MBR and that this is done by a command executed by my script after the package has been installed. So far, though, nothing worked and I have the problem that although I preseed some settings before the package is installed, questions are still asked to the user interactively, which is precisely the behaviour I'd like to avoid. For the preseeding I tried things like: grub-pc grub-pc/install_devices multiselect grub-pc grub-pc/install_devices seentrue grub-pc grub-pc/install_devices_empty boolean true grub-pc grub-pc/install_devices_empty seentrue grub-pc grub-pc/mixed_legacy_and_grub2 boolean false grub-pc grub-pc/mixed_legacy_and_grub2 seentrue But that does not work, the questions are still asked as if nothing had been preseeded. I also tried: grub-pc grub-pc/install_devices multiselect /dev/sdb but the results are not more satisfactory: postinst still goes interactive. So, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm reporting this as a bug because I find it very strange that the preseeding seems to be ignored and the questions seem to be asked in an unconditional way. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks. PS: there is also the problem that update-grub includes options to bot on the systems present on the host OS but these will not be present on the real machine so any advice on how to cleanly proceed so that these alternatives are not included would also be greatly appreciated. -- Package-specific info: *** BEGIN /proc/mounts /dev/disk/by-uuid/80d90ea6-7c6e-4b6d-b1cf-1a37df95ccce / ext3 rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro,commit=5,barrier=0,data=ordered 0 0 /dev/sdb1 /mnt ext3 rw,relatime,errors=continue,user_xattr,acl,barrier=0,data=ordered 0 0 *** END /proc/mounts *** BEGIN /boot/grub/device.map (hd0) /dev/disk/by-id/ata-FUJITSU_MHZ2160BJ_FFS_G2_K83CT8A26DFU *** END /boot/grub/device.map *** BEGIN /boot/grub/grub.cfg # # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE # # It is automatically generated by grub-mkconfig using templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub # ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ]; then load_env fi set default=0 if [ ${prev_saved_entry} ]; then set saved_entry=${prev_saved_entry} save_env saved_entry set prev_saved_entry= save_env prev_saved_entry set boot_once=true fi function savedefault { if [ -z ${boot_once} ]; then saved_entry=${chosen} save_env saved_entry fi } function load_video { insmod vbe insmod vga insmod video_bochs insmod video_cirrus } insmod part_msdos insmod ext2 set root='(hd0,msdos4)' search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 80d90ea6-7c6e-4b6d-b1cf-1a37df95ccce if loadfont /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 ; then set gfxmode=640x480 load_video insmod gfxterm insmod part_msdos insmod ext2 set root='(hd0,msdos4)' search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 80d90ea6-7c6e-4b6d-b1cf-1a37df95ccce set locale_dir=($root)/boot/grub/locale set lang=fr_FR insmod gettext fi terminal_output gfxterm set timeout=5 ### END /etc/grub.d/00_header ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### insmod part_msdos insmod ext2 set root='(hd0,msdos4)' search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 80d90ea6-7c6e-4b6d-b1cf-1a37df95ccce insmod png if background_image /usr/share/images/desktop-base/spacefun-grub.png; then set color_normal=light-gray/black set color_highlight=white/black else set menu_color_normal=cyan/blue set menu_color_highlight=white/blue fi ### END /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux ### menuentry 'Debian GNU/Linux, avec Linux 3.0.0-2-amd64' --class debian --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os { insmod gzio insmod part_msdos insmod ext2 set root='(hd0,msdos4)' search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 80d90ea6-7c6e-4b6d-b1cf-1a37df95ccce echo'Chargement de Linux 3.0.0-2-amd64 ...' linux

Is i possible to get rid of the messages about ssl that are displayed, such as ssl_okay=0 and so on ? not currently. I see those are part of progress messages during the verification process. Bug#592718: lynx-cur: lynx fails to read an URL whereas wget is successful
Hi Thomas, I have another bug-report that's a problem in gnutls (or how lynx is using it), which I _may_ be able to resolve. I just tried to open the same URL http://www.paypal.com/fr/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_login-run with elinks2, which also uses gnutls, and it fails, too. So, perhaps the problem is really in gnutls... Bug#592718: lynx-cur: lynx fails to read an URL whereas wget is successful
It may be - the last one that I investigated turned out to be a defect in gnutls (which its developers knew about for some time), for which I thought I might find a workaround, but only by debugging gnutls itself. This might be the same case - I'll dig into it on the weekend to see. Thanks for allyour work and your reactivity. Bug#592718: lynx-cur: lynx fails to read an URL whereas wget is successful
All of the messages have a delay time, which is configurable in lynx.cfg This one is delaysecs (which appears to be misspelled in lynx.cfg as debugsecs), and can be set on the command-line as -delay. But it defaults to zero, so it seems that not displaying them would not make it faster, unless there are many of them. Okay, thanks a lot for the clarifications ! Bug#570618: [Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#570618: alsa-source: PC speaker not working correctly on HDA Intel card with an Intel G45 DEVCTG chip
I don't have your soundchip handy. I suppose this is chip dependent, though. Yes, probably. You can try: $ amixer set PC Beep 0 modprobe -r pcspkr With the level to 0 but the control to ON, there is the ugly noise (with module removed from kernel). Turning off the control stops the noise completely. If you want really fight for your own beep you must file a bug against alsa-driver at [0] or even first ask at [1, 2]. [0] https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/login_page.php [1] http://mailman.alsa-project.org/mailman/listinfo/alsa-devel [2] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user Well I already tried [1] and [2] and got no reply at all... (I can't find the messages I posted on these lists, though) The subject was beeps with incorrect frequency / volume posted on alsa-devel on Fri, 16 Oct 2009 and on alsa-users on Mon, 26 Oct 2009. The problem at that time was a bit different, but in essence the same, i.e. beeps not working correctly. $ amixer set Beep 0 amixer set Speaker on modprobe -r pcspkr I get a smooth and low beep. ON my system there is no Beep control, only a PC Beep control. And no Speaker control at all... Could you please disable pcspkr and test the beep by controlling via the mixer? I blacklisted the module (added a line blacklist pcspkr to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf) and restarted the computer. After restarting, two things that I can't understand happened: 1. The pcspkr module still appeared in lsmod For testing you can just modprobe -r pcspkr. Blacklisting isn't needed yet 2. Although pcspkr was listed, the computer doesn't beep anymore, independently of the value of the Beep simple control in alsamixer (the control stillhas four values). Did I do the right thing or did you mean something else by disable ? Remove the blacklist entry, reboot and just modprobe -r pcspkr. rmmod pcspkr unloads the same way, I did so and the results are similar to what they were with blacklisting. Ok. I think you must live with the BEEP you have send me. What a pity... If I understand you right: Your goal is o get another beep tone? Yes, and if this is possible the good old one. Btw: the behaviour of the pc speaker varied a bit in the past. First it was not functionning at all, then it was working almost correctly (there was a beep but not of the right frequency), now it's just this noise sent previously. I can't remember whihc kernels it was that make the differences, but I know that there are some bug reports against ALSA regarding this issue.
