The problem affects only some editors: mcedit, libreoffice writer Does not affect vi and gedit. Files smaller than 21 kylobytes are not affected. Symptoms: open file, edit, save: editor reports that it cannot save file. When I started to do it, dovecot begin to fail every few days. I had wrote test app to test authentication for many times it loop. That showed that if user authentication goes through pam-unix it works fine. If take some user that authenticates through pam-pgsql, memory consumption grows indefinitely. Code review showed two problems: 1) on each authentication libgrypt is initialized from scratch (when hash function is called) so about 1K of memory is drained and never returned back. 2) Structure containing module options is never properly freed (app has dirty flow and author preferred to just comment out frees, but even they are not enough as structure has pointers inside that should be freed too). On a sidenote directly delivering to MXes from a dialup system will often fail, due to them blocking dialup users. cu andreas In my situation ppp is used only for pptpd/pptp-linux. So mail delivery is unneeded at all on the connection. May be exim4-config should ask users, put exim4 script to ip-up.d or not. Actually, the point is helping in finding what upstream patch did fix that issue as you confirmed it *has* been fixed. If we find|have the right patch, maybe we can consider adding it to an upcoming point release of samba (with the rationale that it fixes an identified regression). Otherwise, there is basically nothing we can do as the bug is fixed by more recent upstream versions. After a day, the problem revived - authentications fails. I have tried to restart winbind, and it helps. I will continue investigation.
