Hi Seb,

Oops, you're exactly right, sorry, don't know how I missed that.
(Actually I do - I thought I'd done an aptitude upgrade, must just
have done an aptitude update.) Sorry about that.

Bug#721385: org-mode: New upstream, please update to version 8

2013-08-30 Thread Simon Guest
Package: org-mode
Version: 7.9.2-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear org-mode Maintainer,

Thanks for packaging org-mode for Debian.

The latest stable version is 8.0.7, which is well worth an update, as
there's a completely new export engine with some useful features.

Would you consider updating the Debian package, please?

Bug#638478: Another request to package glade-3.8

2013-04-06 Thread Simon Guest
Dear Glade maintainer,

Thanks for your work in packaging Glade.

I am trying to use Glade with gtk2hs (Haskell GTK+ library), which is
GTK2 only. For this I need Glade 3.8.

For now, it looks like I have to download all the dependencies, and
build my own package.  This is a real distraction from my core work;
I'm not sure I can justify the time.

So, please would you reconsider your previous decision not to package
Glade 3.8 ?

cheers,
Simon

now don't care that mp3rename has poor track numbering.

Bug#632615: ksnapshot: area capture problems introduced after 4.4.5

2011-07-03 Thread Simon Guest
Package: ksnapshot
Version: 4:4.6.3-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I'm not a KDE user, but use ksnapshot for screen capture, as it has
been the nicest screenshot application around.

However, for releases after 4.4.5, the area capture isn't working very well.
What
happens is a screen grab is done, and then never relinquished. I have
to kill the X server (with Ctrl-Alt-backspace) to get unstuck.

For now, I am using an old version 4.4.5. For the record, I use the
Compiz window manager.

cheers,
Simon

I think curlftpfs is insufficiently robust to be included in the

finally gave up. That's a shame, because there's clearly a need for

solved the problem, tables are now working as normal, so you can close

Hey, that's quite an old bug of mine!

I have since changed my Toshiba tablet for an HP 2710p, which works
just fine (running Sid). I no longer have access to the Toshiba,
sorry.

As far as I'm concerned you can close this one.

Bug#611221: mupdf: Needs a key to page through all text

2011-01-26 Thread Simon Guest
Package: mupdf
Version: 0.7-2
Severity: wishlist

mupdf really needs a couple of keys to page up/down through all text.
The problem is exhibited if the page is zoomed so the whole contents
are not visible in the window.

Page Up/Down does not do the job currently, as it skips from one page
to the next without showing the top/bottom of each page.

Cursor Up/Down does not do either, as it only scrolls within a page.

So currently, the only way to read the whole document when zoomed in
is to alternately hit on Page Down and Cursor Down (several times).
This is quite a pain, and mars an otherwise superb PDF viewer.

I suggest that Page Up/Down be changed so that they scroll if
necessary to show text off the bottom/top, and if none, then show the
next page (from the top/bottom as appropriate).

cheers,
Simon

Hi Jonathan,

I get the same problem with that URL, however ...

I just fiddled around a bit more with my settings. I see I have the
mozplugger plugin installed. When I disabled it, the problem went
away, and I could download the PDF just fine.

Maybe you could reallocate this bug to mozplugger? ;-)

Sorry, should have tried a bit harder to scope it initially.

/usr/bin/compiz-session  - based on openbox-session
/etc/xdg/compiz/autostart.sh - based on /etc/xdg/openbox/autostart.sh

OK, I tried openjdk - set it in /etc/alternatives, and also in the

Hi Rene,

Thanks for the quick response.

I have this problem:
$ see mydoc.doc
terminate called after throwing an instance of
'com::sun::star::uno::RuntimeException'

I can work around this problem by removing the -no-oosplash option.

When invoking soffice directly, I get this:

$ soffice -no-oosplash -writer mydoc.doc
terminate called after throwing an instance of
'com::sun::star::uno::RuntimeException'
$ soffice -writer mydoc.doc
(works OK)

For some reason, the -no-oosplash is working for you, and not for me.

Any suggestions? What more info can I provide?

By the way, I am using the sun-java6-jre version 6.20-dlj-3. What
Java are you using?

cheers,
Simon

Bug#588184: openoffice.org: mailcap entries broken by -no-oosplash

2010-07-05 Thread Simon Guest
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1:3.2.1-4
Severity: normal

The openoffice entries in /etc/mailcap do not work. The problem is
they all make use of -no-oosplash, which appears to be no longer
supported, and therefore the program cannot be run.

Removing all the instances of -no-oosplash from the entries in
/etc/mailcap fixes the problem.

You can verify this by typing
$ see mydocument.doc

My work-around is to edit /etc/mailcap in precisely the way I have
described.

Bug#537906: Workaround available

2010-04-15 Thread Simon Guest
Hi,

I hit the same problem, which is that synfig is passing options to
ffmpeg which ffmpeg doesn't understand, namely -loop -hq -title blah.

Probably a previous version of ffmpeg understood these options, but
the latest one appears not to. The proper fix is therefore to update
synfig to use the correct options for ffmpeg.

In the meantime, I wrote a python script called ffmpeg which you could
keep somewhere on your path ahead of /usr/bin. It simply strips out
the bogus options and invokes the real ffmpeg.

Yes I know it's a bit of a dodgy solution, but needs must ...

cheers,
Simon
#!/usr/bin/python

# ffmpeg - a work-around for synfig to filter out the bogus arguments that
# get passed in when rendering

import os
import sys

original_args = sys.argv
new_args = []

#print original_args

while len(original_args) > 0:
arg = original_args.pop(0)
if arg == "-loop" or arg == "-hq":
pass
elif arg == "-title":
original_args.pop(0)
else:
new_args.append(arg)

Bug#538088: Bug also exhibits on HP 2710p

2010-01-27 Thread Simon Guest
Hi,

I get the exact same behaviour described in the original bug report,
on a HP 2710p tablet PC (which uses a Wacom digitizer).

Anything I can do to help with the troubleshooting? I would like to
help get this fixed, as XInput is clearly desirable, and changing the
screen orientation is quite a common thing to want to do while Xournal
is running.

For the record I'm using:
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.4-2
xserver-xorg-input-wacom 0.10.3+20100109-1
xournal 0.4.5-2
Anything else relevant?

cheers,
Simon

Bug#550702: Reverting to grub-legacy solved my problem

2009-10-29 Thread Simon Guest
I hit a problem with similar symptoms. Grub would hang, and then
enter grub-rescue mode, with no disks available, and nothing
apparently I could do.

After reinstalling grub after eachtime I booted into Windows XP, I got
fed up and reverted to grub-legacy.

This fixed the problem. I now boot using grub-legacy which is
installed in the MBR in the usual way. Booting into Windows XP does
not disturb the situation.

So, while Windows XP is clearly doing something nasty to a grub-2
install, grub-legacy manages to avoid being damaged.

... I'll be staying with grub-legacy for a while!

cheers,
Simon

corrupted, and is now unreadable either on AMD64 or i386. When trying
to read it, mypasswordsafe again gets stuck, running at 100% CPU.

2005-07-22 Thread Simon Guest

This problem occurs for me on AMD64, but not on i386.

Selecting text in a text entry field, for example the filename in the

Bug#255763: Works OK on my AMD64 system

2005-07-15 Thread Simon Guest
Hi,

In trying to track down another SDL related AMD64 problem ;-), I came
across this one.

I'm running Debian Sarge AMD64 on a Asus A8V-Deluxe motherboard based
system, which uses the VIA K8T800Pro chipset. My sound is perfectly
fine in SDL games such as frozen-bubble. So the very general
statement "libsdl doesn't appear to be 64bit clean" is not (or at
least, no longer) true.

I'm using the 2.6.8-11-amd64-generic kernel, and

libsdl1.2debian  1.2.7+1.2.8cvs20041007-4.1
libsdl1.2debian-alsa 1.2.7+1.2.8cvs20041007-4.1

Hope this helps someone.

Simon

Bug#311924: Final outcome

2005-07-11 Thread Simon Guest
Well, I never did solve this problem, and was just left with monit
restarting dansguardian every morning.

In the meantime, I have setup a new AMD64 box running Debian sarge,
and here dansguardian runs just fine. I no longer need it to run on
my old box, so the problem is unsolved, but I am no longer affected by
it.

Bug#311924: One spurious problem found, real problem remains

2005-06-27 Thread Simon Guest
Well, I discovered why monit was reporting dansguardian failures at
7:43am every morning. Bad interaction between logrotate, which
involves stopping dansguardian, and monit checking it's running.

So I've tweaked the dansguardian logrotate script to get monit to
unmonitor dansguardian for the duration of the logrotate.

So I now need a few more days to monitor what happens ...

Simon

Bug#311924: Progress towards a solution

2005-06-27 Thread Simon Guest
Well, my grotesque hack wasn't so bad. I installed monit, which
besides restarting dansguardian on failure, tells me when it
happened. Interestingly, in the time I've had monit running (2 days),
dansguardian failure has been detected each morning at 7:43am.
I think something in cron.daily might be killing it. However, I've
run all the cron.daily scripts by hand, and none of them did.

So I'm still wondering, but perhaps getting closer.

Not quite sure if anyone's listening to this, mind ...

Simon

I am doubly puzzled, since:

Any suggestions?

2005-06-04 Thread Simon Guest
Package: dansguardian
Version: 2.8.0.4-2
Severity: important

Having had a previous version working completely reliably, the current
version of dansguardian won't stay up and running for more than a few
days at a time. There's no imformation at all in its log files that
anything might be awry, but it simply stops running. I have tried to
encourage it to log something useful, and have tried changing the
runtime directory to see if I can get core files, but I can't, or this
isn't the problem.

I think this problem started when I upgraded from dansguardian
2.8.0.3-2 -> 2.8.0.4-2.

Any ideas? My next step would be a grotesque hack involving a
watchdog process simply restarting dansguardian when it fails. Ugh.

cheers,
Simon

Bug#308028: Problem is with the wizard

2005-05-13 Thread Simon Guest
Hi,

This appears to be a problem with the kchart wizard, and is
reproducible without using kspread at all. If I create a new document
in kchart, and edit the data, all is fine, and my bars reflect may
data just fine.

However, as soon as I use the wizard to reformat the chart, and select
a bar chart, the bars all collapse to zero height.

cheers,
Simon

PS: Is anyone listening?

Bug#308028: kchart: Chart does not display values correctly

2005-05-07 Thread Simon Guest
Package: kchart
Version: 1:1.3.5-4
Severity: normal

I've created the simplest possible dataset in kspread to make a chart,
using columns A, B with the following values:

 Dad  38
 Mum  40
 Sam   9
 Ben   7
 Megan 5

I then select cells A1:B5, and click the insert chart button in
kspread. I choose a barchart, which gets displayed with all 5 bars of
what looks like zero height. It's somehow utterly failed to notice
the values in column B.

Any ideas?

cheers,
Simon

PS: Using kspread version 1:1.3.5-4.

OK, this fixed my problem.

I commented out the following line from /etc/init.d/udev

echo /sbin/udevsend > /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug

So, everything works again for me, and I'm happy. Thanks for your
help.

Is this then a bug in udev (for which I see you are also the Debian
maintainer)? Is there anything else you need from me?

It does the same, i.e. fails in the same way with the same log message.

OK, this makes no difference. Using the older firmware.agent with the
newer hotplug fails in the same way.

Bug#297481: hotplug: Fails to load firmware for ipw2200 after upgrade

2005-02-28 Thread Simon Guest
Package: hotplug
Version: 0.0.20040329-17
Severity: normal

I've been using ipw2200 successfully with the previous hotplug
version, 0.0.20040329-16. Following a dist-upgrade, my hotplug was
upgraded to 0.0.20040329-17, and after the next reboot, my ipw2200
wireless driver could no longer get its firmware loaded (via
hotplug). Reverting to hotplug version 0.0.20040329-16 (and making no
other changes to my configuration) caused the problem to go away.

Lines logged in /var/log/kern.log as follows (for the broken case):

Feb 28 22:31:38 localhost kernel: ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915
Network Driver, 1.0.0

Feb 28 22:31:48 localhost kernel: ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: 0xFFFE

Feb 28 22:31:48 localhost kernel: ipw2200: probe of :02:06.0 failed with
error -5

Of course, it may be that the bug is in ipw2200 or somewhere else.
I've built ipw2200 from the debian package ipw2200-source, version
1.0.0-1, running on standard Debian kernel image 2.6.8-1-686.

For reference, when it works (using the previous hotplug), I get this
logged:

Feb 28 22:36:23 localhost kernel: ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915
Network Driver, 1.0.0
Feb 28 22:36:23 localhost kernel: ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2004 Intel
Corporation
Feb 28 22:36:23 localhost kernel: ACPI: PCI interrupt :02:06.0[A] -> GSI 10
(level, low) -> IRQ 10
Feb 28 22:36:23 localhost kernel: ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG
Network Connection

Also, I certainly have the right firmware files is the right place:

$ pwd
/usr/lib/hotplug/firmware
$ ls
ipw-2.2-boot.fw  ipw-2.2-bss_ucode.fw  ipw-2.2-ibss_ucode.fw
ipw-2.2-bss.fw   ipw-2.2-ibss.fw

Ah, is it possible that having these as symlinks could cause a problem
for hotplug? As you can see below, I have them all symlink'd into /usr/local.
(The links are not dangling - see wc output.)

$ ls -l

Using Mew, and wanting to display Text/Html inline, so I (require 'mew-w3m),
as described by the Mew documentation. But this package is only to be
found in the directory I mention.

$ locate mew-w3m.el
/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/w3m/mew-w3m.el

So, unless I have that directory on the load-path, I cannot pick up
this package.

However, this directory does not get added to the Emacs load path. (I

sure, so apologies if I am wrong.)

Bug#285818: Here's the patch

2005-01-13 Thread Simon Guest
I understand that the original bug report didn't have a patch attached.
However, when I tagged this bug with "patch", I attached the patch to
the control email. You can see if you look at the full text of the
control message.

Perhaps this was the wrong thing to do. Anyway, I suspect you
overlooked this, since you refer to my (original) reference to a
sourceforge project, rather than my attached patch. So I am having
another go. The patch is attached to this email.

Sorry if you didn't in fact overlook my patch. I'm not sure what I can
do better than attach the output of debian/rules make_patch on the
latest source version in Debian unstable. (Is it too late to attach a
patch later, like this?)

cheers,
Simon (trying hard to be helpful ...)
