Bug#784682: systemd unable to boot when snoopy is enabled
FYI: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90364#c2 So i suppose snoopy should conflict with systemd then or maybe present a warning label when it is about to be enabled on a systemd (as opposed to systemd-sysv) booted system. The latter (i.e. booting a systemd install in sysvrc mode via grub advanced boot options) still works fine when snoopy is enabled. Bug#784682: systemd unable to boot when snoopy is enabled
Package: systemd Version: 215-17 I just came across an issue with journald being unable to start up when snoopy is enabled that prevents a Jessie/systemd installation to boot up which i reported to upstream at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90364 . This is to let you know about the issue. Actually i suspect this problem, which i see too btw. - dns lookups taking too long - is the same thing a collegue had with his gentoo workstation a few weeks ago. The new glibc sends out two dns requests, one for IN A, and one for IN at about the same time _and_ with the same source port: 13:49:41.938380 IP 194.97.7.90.44176 > 194.97.173.116.53: 11012+ A? www.mozilla.com. In a myriad of tests we found out that its not the nameservers - which i run btw. - but our firewall (linux 2.6) that has problems coping with that kind of thing. [1] As this is really heavily performance impacting for networked applications and i suspect many firewall implementations to choke on this i hereby kindly request a debian patch that makes libc6 use a seperate query port for each DNS query. This is also more secure i might add. Bug#377181: Info received (cache locally resolvable domains)
Ah i just noticed your inquiry was from 2006, confused that with the current ones. PowerDNS recursor has been separated from PowerDNS server with the release of PowerDNS recursor 3.0 on 20th of April 2006. -> http://doc.powerdns.com/changelog.html#CHANGELOG-RECURSOR-3-0 So i think its safe to say this is upstream fixed now. ;) Stefan -- Wollen Sie den Chef sprechen, oder jemanden der sich auskennt? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#377181: cache locally resolvable domains
Please note that pdns-server != pdns-recursor. If it is at all possible for you you should consider separating recursive and authoritative DNS service to different IP adresses. -> http://cr.yp.to/djbdns/separation.html As for the caches, yes PowerDNS server has two caches relevant to your backends query load, packet and query cache. -> http://doc.powerdns.com/performance-settings.html PowerDNS recursor is another process and has its own recursive cache. You can totally run PowerDNS server without specifying a recursor (recursor=). For example for a standalone Mail-/Webserver it makes sense to have your recursive Nameserver, say PowerDNS recursor, or BIND9, bind to 127.0.0.1 and use that in your resolv.conf and have PowerDNS server listen for authoritative queries on your 'official' internet facing address. That way you don't burden PowerDNS server with the additonal load of your servers recursive queries. Btw. PowerDNS recursor running standalone works like a charm for many large mailservers as serveral people in #powerdns (IRCnet) confirmed. Bug#475141: pdns-server: pdns.conf.local overwritten with bad values,
I had a working configuration in /etc/powerdns/pdns.conf. With 2.9.21.1-1 -> 2.9.21.1.0-1 the beforementioned broken additions came to /etc/powerdns/pdns.d/pdns.local and broke my customized pdns.conf by overriding the mysql backend query statements in pdns.conf. I have thus now uncommented the (last) line include=/etc/powerdns/pdns.d in pdns.conf. I wonder why you decided to overwrite my working - because it was empty - /etc/pdns.d/pdns.local, doesn't really sound like you're sticking to the 'if it ain't broken, don't try to fix it' doctrine here. Bug#394714: was Re: mod_ssl preventing apache2 from starting (segfault)
Ok now i found the fitting bug... i see the same in gdb: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
