Bug#640972: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: SATA errors every ~30sec ata##: hard resetting link... SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300/310)... EH Complete

2011-09-28 Thread Thomas Shanks
Am I correct in observing that these errors are for SATA channels that
aren't connected to anything inside the ExpressCard? (This is a
sealed ExpressCard SSD.)

If so, is there a way to tell the kernel to ignore them?

It does appear that the card works significantly (say 20%) slower on
Linux than on Win7. Could the time spent resetting the device be
related to this slowdown? (I would do further testing on the Windows
side, but I don't have Win7 installed any longer; I had installed it
to do a BIOS update.)

Bug#642063: metacity: Double-clicking titlebar doesn't undo maximize button

2011-09-19 Thread Thomas Shanks
Package: metacity
Version: 1:2.30.1-3
Severity: normal

When double-clicking the titlebar is configured in SystemPreferencesWindows
to only maximize horizontally or vertically, double-clicking the titlebar in a
fully-maximized (via the button in the upper right corner) maximized window
only undoes maximization on one of the two axes, leaving the other maximized.

What's worse, the stuck direction now has with a border and a mouseover
mouse-pointer change that imply that manually correcting this stuck
maximization is possible when it isn't. The only way to clear this up and
unglue the maximized direction is to fully maximize again, then use the window-
menu Restore operation or the upper-right-corner Maximize/Restore button to
undo the full maximization in both directions.

Bug#641008: Acknowledgement (linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: X11 mouse dropping left on text console when switching VTs; doesn't go away )

2011-09-12 Thread Thomas Shanks
Image (link below) of graphical mouse pointer left behind whenever you
Ctrl-Alt-Shift-F# to text VTs while Xorg is running with an external
screen connected on an Arrandale.

http://i.imgur.com/VkJRu.jpg

The pointer does not move or go away; it stays in that spot as you use
the text console, even if text, gpm, etc, paints under that area of
the screen.

This happens every time. It blocks use of that area of the screen and
makes users think they are in Xorg when they are not.

Bug#641008: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: X11 mouse dropping left on text console when switching VTs; doesn't go away

2011-09-09 Thread Thomas Shanks
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-35squeeze1
Severity: important

Switch away from Xorg when switched to use external monitor of
Arrandale. X11 graphical mouse pointer left painted on text console no
matter which text VT you switch to. Also, second montior left with X11
screen painted on it; console only appears on primary (closed laptop)
screen (when switching away in any other configuration leaves console on
both screens). Switching to other (non-X) VTs does not remove the X
mouse pointer from screen. Moving the mouse causes GPM mouse pointer to
do what it normally does, but X11 pointer still painted on text console
as well. Happens every time when switching with second monitor in use
in a non-mirroring mode. Will appear in a different place if you switch
back to X11 VT, move mouse, and switch back to console VT.

Having a pointer glued on your text console is a major distraction/
source of confusion for all users.

Oh dear... I hit send on the second rename email hours ago, before the
merges, while in a wifi-free area... would not mind if someone undoes this
action or picks a more suitable title.
