I did reboot after the kernel upgrade.

I just installed the new kernel again, rebooted, and now get the error
again. This bug seems is not fixed by rebooting after the kernel upgrade.

Yes, you are correct, thanks!

Just for other people's reference, it seems that grub settings are ignored
on digital ocean, and that you instead have to specify which kernel is
booted from the Digital Ocean control panel, loaded from outside the
droplet. That doesn't seem like a terribly smart setup to me, since it
apparently use the kernel modules installed in the droplet, which obviously
can be incompatible with the kernel.

From
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/questions/can-t-seem-to-load-fuse-module?comment=17236
:

1) log into the digital ocean control panel
2) go to the droplet that has this issue.
3) go to settings, then kernel
4) change it to the latest kernel. i.e. for me its: * Debian 7.0 x64
vmlinuz-3.2.0-4-amd64 (3.2.60-1+deb7u3)
5) power down your droplet
6) power up.

Your boot loader is still loading the old kernel. That's a problem in
your boot loader configuration, not the new kernel.

Bug#765730: Can debian/rules build target use precompiled object code in favor of building from source?

 Hi Thue,

That is a related but separate problem. I actually reported that in 2011,
and it was fixed for Wheezy:
 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=636148 (smarty3 Debian
 maintainer CC'ed)

But it seems to have been reverted sometime since, and in Jessie the
 Debian
smarty3 package no longer includes the source code.

 Regards, Thue

Your filed bugs (against package smarty3) tackle two issues:

 (1)
There are indeed (at least) 4 source files that are used by upstream to
generate the smarty3 release tarball, but that do not get shipped with the
upstream source tarball itself. These files only exist in SVN folder
trunk/development. This folder exists outside of the tagged SVN source
subtree that marks every smarty3 release (trunk/distribution/).

The previous maintainer of smarty3 closed your filed bug #636148 [2] by
including the trunk/development folder in the Debian source package of
smarty3 but oversaw two issues that I will describe below (embedded
libraries, shipping of PHP 3.0 License licensed code).

 (2)
Next issue is that I dropped re-building the result of
 smarty_internal_configfileparser.y
during debian/rules but rather use the built result file from the upstream
tarball (filed as bug #765730 [3]). The reason for this change actually was
the already alluded to double policy violation (see [1]):

   - Shipping of embedded code (PHPUnit, lexer) in the
smarty3 Debian source package which got obtained from SVN (trunk).
   - License in use that is considered as non-DFSG (lexer:
 PHP 3.0 license)

The very easy solution at that time for me seemed to drop the embedded PHP
libraries PHPUnit and lexer from the upstream orig tarball completely and
use the generated files from the release tarball. Esp. because the
 generated PHP file is a human-readable, non-obscured, well-layouted (but
 generated) PHP code file.

Suggested approach for now (i.e. Debian jessie):

 A.

Fix for #636148: ship files from
   http://smarty-php.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/development/lexer/

   namely
 smarty_internal_configfilelexer.* (except the .php)
 smarty_internal_configfileparser.* (except the .php)
 smarty_internal_templatelexer.* (except the .php)
 smarty_internal_templateparser.* (except the .php)

in the smarty3 Debian source package.

I have provide this in the recent upload of smarty3_3.1.21-1.

 B.

Leave #765730 open as a reminder that (for jessie+1) I need to
get in contact with the upstream author of lexer and ask to
relicense the lexer PHP code. Then make sure PHPUnit and lexer are
packaged in Debian, then adapt debian/rules of smarty3 to build
all its files from source (and omit the embedded libraries when
   obtaining/repacking smarty3 orig tarball).

 Greets,
 Mike

example starting in the upper left corner with the mouse and marking

will produce more.

Bug#678969: mumble-server: Upon removal, leftover /etc/logrotate.d/mumble-server causes errors

2012-06-25 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: mumble-server
Version: 1.2.3-349-g315b5f5-1
Severity: normal
File: mumble-server

Dear Maintainer,

Upon doing aptitude remove mumble-server, a
/etc/logrotate.d/mumble-server is left. This is as it should be, since
configuration files should not be deleted upon removal.

But this logrotate script causes the following error

/etc/cron.daily/logrotate:
start-stop-daemon: unable to stat /usr/sbin/murmurd (No such file or directory)
error: error running non-shared postrotate script for
/var/log/mumble-server/mumble-server.log of
'/var/log/mumble-server/mumble-server.log '
run-parts: /etc/cron.daily/logrotate exited with return code 1

The script looks like this:

/var/log/mumble-server/mumble-server.log {
weekly
rotate 7
compress
delaycompress
missingok
postrotate
start-stop-daemon --quiet --oknodo --stop --signal 1 --exec
/usr/sbin/murmurd --user mumble-server --pidfile
/var/run/mumble-server/mumble-server.pid
endscript
}

Where it is obviously the postrotate action which references
/usr/sbin/murmurd. The postrotate action should exit if the murmur
binary does not exist, like the /etc/init.d/mumble-server (and all
other policy-compliant) package does:

/etc/init.d/mumble-server :

DAEMON=/usr/sbin/murmurd
[...]
test -x $DAEMON || exit 0

Perhaps the author tried to get this effect with --exec
/usr/sbin/murmurd combined with --oknodo, but it seems that
start-stop-daemon actually requires the binary to exist, even with
--oknodo.

Regards, Thue

ps: I have no idea why it is a good idea to send a HANGUP signal to
mumble-server in the logrotate postrotate, as it currently does.

Bug#676816: mumble-server-web: Ice include problems

2012-06-09 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: mumble-server-web
Version: 1.2.3-349-g315b5f5-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

After installing mumble-server-web and visiting
http://localhost/mumble-server , I get the following in
/var/log/apache2/error.log

PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function Ice_intversion() in
/usr/share/mumble-server-web/www/weblist.php on line 14

This seems to be an include problem, as
/usr/share/Ice-3.4.2/php/lib/Ice.php is not in the default php include
path. Setting

   include_path = .:/usr/share/php:/usr/share/Ice-3.4.2/php/lib

in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini makes it go a bit further, but it hits
other include path problems after that.

In short, the mumble-server-web package is completely broken. The
actual bug may be in the php-zeroc-ice package.

I reported the same bug at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mumble/+bug/1010573

Bug#644283: update-flashplugin-nonfree should install latest version 11 (released October 3)

2011-10-04 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: flashplugin-nonfree
Version: 1:2.8.3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Running
 sudo update-flashplugin-nonfree --install --verbose
it installs flashplayer11_rc1_install_lin_64_090611.tar.gz .

But a new non-preview version of flash 11 was released yesterday. It
would be nice if flashplayer-nonfree was updated to use this version

Regards, Thue

2011-09-19 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: chromium
Version: 14.0.835.163~r101024-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Support for the HTML5 video tag stopped working when I upgraded from
chromium 13.0.782.220~r99552-1 to 14.0.835.163~r101024-1 .

For example, the test at the bottom of the page

video with our site. now, but it works if I downgrade chromium to
13.0.782.220~r99552-1 .

Bug#636148: Better, but still not perfect

2011-09-19 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
According to http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-source.html ,
section 4.14 Source package handling: debian/README.source:

If running dpkg-source -x on a source package doesn't produce the source of
the package, ready for editing, and allow one to make changes and run
dpkg-buildpackage to produce a modified package without taking any
additional steps, creating a debian/README.source documentation file is
 recommended.

So since you need to run the Smarty_3_x_x/development/Makefile after
modifying the .y file, the current package is lacking (there is no
debian/README.source file either).

IMO, the debian/rules build rule should run
the Smarty_3_x_x/development/Makefile to compile the .y and .plex files ,
even though smarty SVN comes with a compiled version. That way you are also
sure that the installed compiled version of these files actually corresponds
to the source version.

Bug#641704: unbound-host should be preconfigured with DNS root trust anchor

2011-09-15 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: unbound-host
Version: 1.4.12-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Using a simple aptitude install unbound-host, the installed
unbound-host doesn't seem to know about the root trust anchor. And
there is no description in the man page, or in
/ush/share/doc/unbound-host, about how to get and install this anchor.

The DNS root is now signed. Since I expect most people will use the
root trust anchor, then it would make sense for this to be
preconfigured. If the root anchor is changed, then an update can be
put into the Debian volative repository.

To document that the current unbound-host installation don't know
about the root trust anchor, I ran the following commands:

t@h ~ unbound-host -v isc.org

Bug#636148: smarty3: Smarty3 source package does not contain source code

2011-08-09 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen

On Sun, Jul 31, 2011 at 07:49:11PM +0200, Thue Janus Kristensen wrote:

The problem here is that upstream is distributing created code
without corresponding source code on their website. In short,
given that Smarty does not require copyright assignment, they

speaking, terminates the rights to distribute Smarty 3 of
everyone distributing it, as per Section 8 of the license.

svn with the source code is available from the smarty download page. So IMO,
smarty is distributing the source code from the same place (the smarty
download page) as the tarballs, as required by the GPL.

Bug#636148: Location of the smarty 3 source code

2011-08-01 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen

The .y files aren't in the tarball from the download page, could
you include them in the next release ?

I am not actually a real smarty developer, I just contributed some code,
and then left :).

But for example the source code for the 3.0.8 release is available from svn,
using the command

 svn export http://smarty-php.googlecode.com/svn/tags/Smarty_3_0_8/

There is a simple Makefile in Smarty_3_0_8/development/Makefile . A make
all will compile all files, and copy the compiled files into the correct
place in Smarty_3_0_8/distribution .

Bug#636148: smarty3: Smarty3 source package does not contain source code

2011-07-31 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: smarty3
Version: 3.0.8-1
Severity: normal

As far as I can tell, the Smarty3 source package does not actually
contain the smarty3 source code.

For example, I wrote the file
http://smarty-php.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/development/lexer/smarty_internal_configfileparser.y
which is the source code for the file
http://smarty-php.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/distribution/libs/sysplugins/smarty_internal_templateparser.php
which is included in the Debian Smarty3 package.

As the GPL states, The “source code” for a work means the preferred
form of the work for making modifications to it.. So since the .y
files is obviously the preferred form,
smarty_internal_configfileparser.y should be distributed in the Debian
source package, to be in compliance with the GNU LGPL.

 Mesa upstream Git commit 9b7f3776359640d452697f3a487a345820abebf0
('r600: don't close fd on failed load') might fix the problem with the

I recompiled the Debian libgl1-mesa-dri_7.10-4 package with that patch
manually applied, and the problem went away :).

I tried compiling the kernel to debug, but I am having some general

the current binutils in unstable. And the latest downloaded from from

Doing

No. Nothing happens even after I finish in the second server. Only

Hmm, weird. Does drmDropMaster return 0, or an error code?

Can you get the value of errno as well?

(gdb) finish
[...]
(gdb) print errno
$6 = 9

This does indicate that the DRM_IOCTL_DROP_MASTER may be failing, which
could explain the problem. The question why it would fail. Looking at
drm_dropmaster_ioctl() in the kernel, I think the only relevant case is

if (!file_priv-minor-master)
return -EINVAL;

but I don't know how file_priv-minor-master could be NULL.

Perhaps I should insert a debug print in the kernel source code, to verify
that it is indeed that one which triggers?

I had to *continue* over some SIGPIPE etc, but I assume that is normal.

Bug#588868: sysv-rc: update-rc.d should support empty Default-Start

2010-07-12 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: sysv-rc
Version: 2.88dsf-11
Severity: important

I have a backup script on my desktop PC, which should run only on system
shutdown (runlevel 0).

So I have written /etc/init.d/backup-thuehome.sh , with an LSB header including
# Default-Start:
# Default-Stop: 0

But when I try to use it, it fails because the init system won't
accept an empty Default-Start. For example running update-rc.d with an
empty Default-State, or removing Default-Start completely, gives me:

t...@h ~ sudo update-rc.d backup-thuehome.sh enable
update-rc.d: using dependency based boot sequencing
update-rc.d: error: backup-thuehome.sh Default-Start contains no runlevels,
aborting.

Even worse, when manually adding a symlink to /etc/rc0.d , then the
script silently refuses to run, without an error being logged to
syslog or the console! (this part is why I added the important
severity. Error handling feedback is very important!)

My init scipt works fine if a add for example
# Default-Start:3

Bug#587809: kde-window-manager: Fails to display windows correctly when leaving full-screen

2010-07-01 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: kde-window-manager
Version: 4:4.4.4-1
Severity: normal

I have a dual-screen setup.

When I
1) put a kaffeine window into fullscreen (by double-clicking on it)
2) then leave fullscreen again by double-clicking on the kaffeine window

Then the other windows behind the kaffeine window, which should now be visible,
are not correctly displayed.

I recorded the error occurring here, using a maximized konsole-window as
background.

Bug#587293: Plays now, but messed up

After you reported this bug fixed, the videos now plays, but are messed up.

The videos worked fine for me before this stopped working due to this bug.

Sorry for the slow response. Unfortunately, that feature works fine

 Thanks for the report,

After clicking around a bit more, it seems that it only fails for pages
using frames. There it will select the frame when you click the element.
Chromium should instead select the element within the frame inside the dev

Thanks for the clarification. Indeed, that’s true:

 1. Visit http://java.sun.com/javase/7/docs/api/
 2. Select Tools → Developer → Developer Tools from the browser chrome
   (or press ctrl-shift-I)
 3. Choose Elements from the top of the developer tools window
 4. Click the black magnifying glass icon at the bottom of the developer
tools window, so it turns blue
 5. Click on a frame. Its frame tag gets selected.
 6. Click the manifying glass icon again.
 7. Click on an element within the selected frame.

Even though individual elements are correctly highlighted when you
hover, the inspector window refuses to automagically jump to the correct
 tag.

Could you report this upstream through
 http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/entry?template=Defect%20on%20Linux
so we can work on a fix there (and send a link to this bug log)?

If you can’t because you don’t have an account or something, that’s
fine, too, but please do let us know.

 Thanks again,
 Jonathan

Bug#587097: aptitude: Should not use IPv6 if no IPv6 gateway specified

2010-06-25 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.6.3-2
Severity: normal

I am having problems running aptitude update because aptitude tries to use
IPv6 (even through my Debian mirror also has an IPv4 address in addition to its
IPv6 address).

The default Debian install seems to have added a localhost IPv6 address to
machine (fe80::21d:7dff:fe01:88e5/64)

It would be nice if aptitude could detect that IPv6 is not really available,
for example by noting that no IPv6 gateway is configured, and fall back on IPv4.

Besides, with your change there now are two almost identical sentences
saying
OpenNTPd on Debian *does not listen* on any address

 Hi Thue Janus Kristensen!

I don't really follow what you're trying to mean... If It says does not
listen on any, could it be grammatically possible that there are some
 that do listen ?

Your formulation is fine. I merely suggest that the same statement is not
repeated twice within 5 lines. :)

Sorry if I misunderstood the first bug report, I offer my apologizes and I
kindly request you to tell me what would you like the manpage to say
 instead.

I suggested a formulation for the man page in the initial bug report; see

Bug#577720: mysql-server-5.1: /etc/init.d/mysql still tries to start after uninstall

2010-04-13 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: mysql-server-5.1
Severity: normal

mysql-server-5.1 was automatically uninstalled during a routine
unstable aptitude upgrade. This left /etc/init.d/mysql behind,
which I understand is in accordance with Debian policy for
configuration files.

However, /etc/init.d/mysql still tries to start mysql, without
realizing that the binaries are not longer present. Specifically, it
dies trying to run /usr/bin/mysqladmin .

The /etc/init.d/mysql script should do what other similar packages do,
and silently exit when it detects that it is not installed.

Bug#415994: How is this supposed to work?

2010-03-31 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
The exploit is at
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/fulldisc/full-disclosure/49421

This seems to be a (very) false alarm. How does having a $filename argument
in a function in a file containing only a class cause the function to be
called when the file is called with a $_GET filename=... argument?

Even if register_globals was enabled, this will obviously not call the
function. And the scope of the function would make the name clash harmless.

So in short, the vulnerability author Sp1deR_NeT has zero clue. And I
wonder why this Debian bug has not been closed already.

Hilsen Thue

Bug#461006: Unfixable

2010-03-31 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
I looked around the Smarty source code, and this looks unfixable.

There are 2 problems
-default_modifiers only handles one level of arrays. This could probably be
fixed
-default_modifiers are applied both in the foreach from-argument, and when
the text is actually inserted ({$para.text}). So everything would be
double-escaped. This could not be fixed without potentially breaking current
users relying on the current behavior.

Bug#575705: openntpd: ntpd.conf and its man page should be more explicit about the listen configuration

2010-03-28 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: openntpd
Version: 3.9p1+debian-3
Severity: minor

ntpd.conf says
   # Addresses to listen on (ntpd does not listen by default)
and man ntpd.conf says
   listen on address
Specify a local IP address or a hostname the ntpd(8)
  daemon should listen on.
but nowhere does it explicitly say what it will actually listen
for. This may be obvious to a Debian openntp maintainer, but it would
be nice if it was immediately obvious to people who haven't used ntp
before too

So I suggest that the ntpd.conf entry be changed to
   # Act as an ntp server by listening to queries from these IP addresses/DNS
hostnames

And that man ntpd.conf be changed to
   listen on address
The ntpd(8) daemon will act as an ntp server by
listening to queries from this address. address can be
either an IP address or a DNS hostname.

It doesn't make any sense as of today. You're trying to use the old
Xinerama syntax. You want to use RandR1.2 instead. See
  http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/HowToRandR12

I have already tried generating a config based on that HOWTO, but it
  doesn't work. Even though I have xorg.conf

  Section Device
  Identifier ati
  Driver radeon
  BusID PCI:1:0:0
  Option HDMI-0 mon0
  Option DVI-0 mon1
  EndSection

It should be Monitor-HDMI-0 instead of HDMI-0 and so on.

Or just remove these lines and rename your monitor section's identifier
from mon0 to HDMI-0 and so on.

If the wiki page isn't clear enough, please let me know.

Ah excellent - it works now!

Having the output name inside the option name in that way is slightly
unexpected, at least for me. Hence it tricked me, as I was mostly looking at
the finished example. But yes, it does say how it works up in the device
section section.

Thanks!

I missed the fact you're running a severely outdated kernel, please
upgrade it and see how it goes. See details in:

Yes, several months old. The horror! :)

Side note: Actually, for following the latest Kernel I have installed
package linux-image-2.6-amd64, which in its description says
This package depends on the latest Linux kernel 2.6 and modules
But right now it still depends on linux-image-2.6.32-3-amd64 in unstable.

I just upgraded to 2.6.32-4 manually, and it did not fix the slowness.

But thanks to Brice Goglin's help and the x.org HOWTO wiki I just got dual
screen working with the radeon driver, so in principle I do not care any
more :).

AFAICT -radeonhd isn't really maintained, you may want to give -radeon
 a try.

Yes, fair enough. But with -radeon dual screen doesn't work in KDE :(.

So I thought I would mention it anyway, on the off chance that it would get
fixed :). But as I said, fair enough if you don't give it priority.

I notice that there have recently come a new warning in my Xorg log:
(WW) RADEONHD(0): [drm] failed to enable new memory map
This may or may not be relevant. The old Xorg.1.log.old is attached.

See the drm-related dmesg lines in your bugreport, that's probably not
helping: without working direct rendering, it's “““normal””” to have a
 slow browser. :/

Nonetheless, it worked before the last update.

Bug#547925: kaffeine: Does not like file name with spaces

2009-09-22 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: kaffeine
Version: 0.8.7-1
Severity: normal

I have a file named LotR 1 disk 1.iso. When I try to open it from
inside Kaffeine, using the DVD iso image file type, I get the popup error

The source can't be read.

Maybe you don't have enough rights for this, or source doesn't contain data
(e.g: no disk in drive). (/data/film/LotR_1_EE/LotR%201%20disk%201.iso)

It works fine if I rename the file to for example test.iso.

My guess on the error is that the spaces in the filename seem to be
urlencoded by kaffeine (as %20), and then used on the command line,
when they should perhaps be command line arg escaped as \ .

The command line output from kaffeine is

Bug#525647: deluge: Should register itself as bittorrent handler

2009-09-02 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
My motivation has dropped somewhat, as I switched to ktorrent :).

But it seems that it is not only deluge that has the problem; it is the same
for ktorrent. At the same time, konqueror seems to be able to use the system
applications correctly.

So it would seem to be more of an Iceweasel should be better at recognizing
and suggesting helper applications in general problem.

Feel free to close the bug, as far as I am concerned, since it is an
iceweasel problem, and not a problem with deluge.

I assume there is somewhere in the Debian system where deluge can

Bug#539740: dosbox: Fullscreen messes up extended desktop

2009-08-03 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: dosbox
Version: 0.72-1.1
Severity: normal

I have a desktop extended over 2 monitors. Until I enter and exit
dosbox fullscreen mode :).

When dosbox goes into fullscreen it changes the resolution (of
course), and sets the screens to mirroring. The mirroring part is fair
enough, I guess, though it could just as well only use one of the
monitors.

However, when dosbox exits fullscreen the screens are still mirrored,
instead of restoring my previous setup. KDE still thinks that the
desktop is full extended size, and the mouse will happily move off the
right edge of the screen. Logging out and in again restores the
extended desktop.

Obviously dosbox should restore the previous settings when exiting
fullscreen, if possible.

When viewing an active torrent, and looking at for example the files
tab in the lower pane, all the fields but the last one start out only
a few pixels wide. The Peers tab has the same problem.

Obviously deluge should start then at sane widths. The old version of
deluge before the rewrite did not have this problem.

The symptoms are a bit different. When I started the second instance

Bug#525647: deluge: Should register itself as bittorrent handler

2009-04-26 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: deluge
Version: 1.1.6+dfsg-2

By default, deluge is not shown in the dialogue Firefox pops up when opening a
.torrent file, while another bittorrent client is.

I assume there is somewhere in the Debian system where deluge can
register itself as a bittorrent handler, so that Firefox recognizes
it. The Deluge package should do so :).

Bug#500374: 3.0.2 also fixes mozilla bug 435764

2008-09-28 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Firefox 3.0.2 also fixes mozilla bug 435764. Bug 435764 crashes my browser
constantly due to a bad interaction with swfdec.

Bug#494574: apticron: Apticron will send recommends not installed

2008-08-10 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: apticron
Version: 1.1.21
Severity: normal

It seems that apticron will send an email about recommended packages
not installed. So even though my system is completely up to date, I
get an email each day because for example perl-doc is recommended by
perl, and perl-doc is not installed.

IMO, apticron should not count non-installed recommended packages when
determining if an email should be sent.

Bug#494140: Upgrade to sshfs 2.1 bugfix release

2008-08-07 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: sshfs
Version: 2.0-2
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

There is a new 2.1 release, containing bugfixes. Among the fixes are:
*Fix bug in caching which could cause file corruption for append mode writes.
Så a data loss bug, hence the grave severity of the bug.

The new release also fixes the statvfs call, making for example df work.

Bug#490530: libc6: gethostbyaddr() times out if reverse dns not found

2008-07-12 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: libc6
Version: 2.7-10
Severity: normal

I noticed that when I tried pinging kalus.dk (which does not have
reverse DNS at the time of writing), ping would only send a packet
every 5 seconds.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ host kalus.dk
kalus.dk has address 89.233.27.15
kalus.dk mail is handled by 10 mail.kalus.dk.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ host 89.233.27.15
Host 15.27.233.89.in-addr.arpa. not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ ping kalus.dk
PING kalus.dk (89.233.27.15) 56(84) bytes of data.
[5 second pause]

[5 second pause]
64 bytes from 89.233.27.15: icmp_seq=4 ttl=56 time=4.48 ms

I tracked it down to the function call char *pr_addr in ping.c, when calling
gethostbyaddr() :
/* pr_addr -- Return an ascii host address as a dotted quad and optionally
with a hostname. */
char *pr_addr(__u32 addr) {
struct hostent *hp;
[...]
hp = gethostbyaddr((char *)addr, 4, AF_INET);
[...]
}

I see no reason why it should take 5 seconds to find out that reverse DNS is
not available, when the host command returns the answer immediately.

Doing a strace I get (selected parts of trace):

I noted the

I'm using 0.10.4-3 version of gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg without problems,
changing to -full breaks it, so I suppose this is some kind of problem on

If you can confirm this we can close the bug and maybe marillat has the

Bug#486658: swfdec-mozilla: Youtube videos show random garbage

2008-06-17 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: swfdec-mozilla
Version: 0.6.0-2
Severity: important

Youtube videos show random garbage when viewed. And no, it is random
bits, not even the normal random garbage normally showed on Youtube. :)

The youtube flash controls are displayed fine. It is only the video
itself which doesn't work.

Sound seems to work.

Youtube videos worked yesterday, but I made an apt-upgrade since then. I
am not sure which upgraded package causes the problem - I tried to
downgrade a few, but couldn't find the offending one.

Bug#486660: istanbul: Save never finishes

Package: istanbul
Version: 0.2.2-4
Severity: normal

I have the same problem as in bug #415896, except that the save never
finishes even when I just tell it to record the whole screen.

(Bug #415896: When the option Select window to record is used the
program never finishes the save operation. The icon in the tray does not change
from the grey square back to the red circle. If the mouse is over
the icon, the context help says In process of saving to disk.,
but it never finishes. The save dialog never appears. The program
needs to be terminated by a kill command.)

I have two screen beside each other using xrandr, but since a
video is never saved I assume the problem is not the same as bug

Bug#486662: gnome-desktop-environment: Camera import dialogue with no effect

2008-06-17 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: gnome-desktop-environment
Version: 1:2.20.2.4
Severity: normal

Whenever I connect my camera to my USB port, the gnome desktop pops up
a Camera Import dialogue such as this one:
http://tombuntu.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/ipoddialog.jpg

However when I click import photos nothing happens except that the
dialogue goes away, even though there are pictures on the camera. I am
perfectly able to download the photos using digiKam. Obviously something
was supposed to happen...

I am reporting this bug on gnome-desktop-environment since I don't know
which component is popping up the dialogue.

Regards, Thue

It is popped by gnome-volume-manager. You can set its preferences in
System - Preferences - Removable Drives and Media, and tell it e.g. to
use digikam (the default being gthumb).

I will add a Recommends on gthumb in the next meta-gnome2 upload, as it
is indeed a useful application to install for this case.

Yep, gthumb is not installed.

IMO it should at least give an error message when the specified handler is
not found, instead of silently exiting. With a text describing how to change
the handler for bonus points :).

Thanks

Bug#479064: postfix: auto-modified master.cf during upgrade sarge-etch invalid

2008-05-02 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
Package: postfix
Version: 2.3.8-2+b1
Severity: important

I just upgraded my Debian Sarge to Debian Etch. Before the upgrade my the end
of my /etc/postfix/master.cf looked like

(no newline at end of file)

The postfix upgrade asked if it should add a domainsomething to the
configuration, and I said yes. (dont know if this is relevant)

After the upgrade the end of master.cf looked like this:
127.0.0.1:10025 inet n - n - - smtpd -o content_filter= -o local_recipient_maps\

Where there obviously is a missing newline. Obviously the configuration did not
work.

Bug#342632: Various fixes for emacs php mode

2008-01-26 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen
I played around with the emacs php mode, and made a few fixes to what
on my system is /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/php-elisp/php-mode.el

I made the fixes against the latest version 1.4 from sourceforge, but
I think they would be easy to apply to the version 1.1 currently in
Debian unstable.

The fixes are:
1) Add support for the clone keyword, by copying the existing code
for the print keyword. Both these keywords get special treatment as
they can be used boat as print 'lala' and print('lala') (Debian
bug #342632)

2) Add support for highlighting the object name to the right of
instanceof keyword, as in $student instanceof Person, by using the
existing logic for for example the new keyword. (Debian bug #342634)

3) Make sure that keywords, for example if, don't become highlighed
in $lala_if. This is done by inserting a few [^_]'s in the source
code. For start of line I had to insert \\(?:^\\|[^_]\\)
(non-underscore or start of line), otherwise emacs would not always
mark up keywords at the start of the line (specifically emacs would
mark up correctly if the keyword was there when the file was loaded,
but not when the keyword was freshly written). (Debian bug #212422)

Bug 3) looks somewhat like a bug which could be more elegantly fixed
at a higher level in emacs, but my band-aid fix could serve in the
mean-time. I tested using GNU Emacs 21.4.1.

Here is some PHP code which illustrates the highlighting bugs:

?php
$aa_if;
$aa_if_aa;
$aa_break;
$aa_break_aa;
$aa_print_aa;
$aa_class_aa;
$aa_class;
$aa_self;

$a_continue; //this one is not fixed

function if_a() {}
function a_if() {}
function private_aa() {}
function continue_aa() {}

Yes, thanks :).

Java was pointing to an old uninstalled Sun java. Don't know how it
became messed up, I only used the Debian package system...

Installing java-gcj-compat should provide java. What's the result of
 the following two commands?
 $ sudo update-alternatives --display java
 $ ls -l /etc/alternatives/java

A common fix to alternatives problems is to run
 $ sudo update-alternatives --auto java
Please tell me if you solve this issue so that I can close this bug.

 Cheers,

3 problems:
1) Grepping through my Linux .config, there doesn't seem to be a

2) The message above is shown twice when installing the package. Once
