Bug#352211: nautilus: Please include an 'undo' action

2006-02-10 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.12.2-2
Severity: wishlist

There are several times when I delete a file my mistake and wish that
I would just do a ctrl-z to restore it, instead of going to
Wastebasket to retrieve it.

Bug#352214: nautilus: Please include a 'restore' option to deleted files

2006-02-10 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.12.2-2
Severity: wishlist

It would be very handy if one would just right-click on a file in the
Wastebasket and granted an option of restoring, and in addition, a
statement of where the file originates/where it will be restored to.

I could confirm that... By the way why didn't you give the bug
Severity: Important or perhaps higher?
I could file an RC bug report about evince's preposteous memory usage
(when opening a 19MB file and then zooming into it) if I had the time
to learn how.

Bug#373814: nautilus: Disk usage of folder contents not properly updated

2006-06-18 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe

Hi,
I installed the recommended package 'fam' and this bug was resolved,
while I was using 'gamin' before. It's amazing because 'gamin' was the
preferred package a while ago.

Yes, gamin is unmaintained and it is causing quite some trouble.

Is the directory you are scanning on a remote mount? If it is a local
disk, inotify should be directly used.

It's a local disk with a fat32 filesystem on it.

Bug#373814: nautilus: Disk usage of folder contents not properly updated

2006-06-15 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe

Package: nautilus
Version: 2.14.1-4
Severity: normal

When right-clicking on a folder and clicking on the 'Properties' menu
item, 'Contents' does not display the correct disk usage if its not the
first time the you view that information. One doesn't want to go for
'du' to find accurate results.
By the way, a workaround for this bug is that you view this info,
then view same info on another folder, then come back and view this info
again, which will then be properly updated.

I would have thought that this would be obvious, since:

* When installing this way, you give the installer only one password.

Not so obvious to a newbie installer...

* It's documented on sudo's man page as the default behavior of sudo.

out of question...

This is a known problem with the graphical installer. Will probably
not be fixed for etch.

Is this because it's tough to fix or that time is limited?
I don't think it's so minor especially since Etch would be the first
Debian release with a graphical installer, and it shouldn't look
amateurish with such annoying bugs around.

I don't think it is that much outdated, the people who developed
nautilus 2.4 are still the nautilus developers today.

> * README (only relevant for those who build from src)

We generally ship such documents nevertheless. Plus, there is some
relevant information about the mailing list and bugzilla.

Is it that much of a waste of time to just delete the irrelevant info?
I often look into the README files, often as a starter if I'm not
familiar with the package, or to check if there's some Debian-specific
stuff in case of README.Debian, and too often it happens that these
documents are outdated. That's of course very much the case with
upstream stuff who mostly only care about the src and not the
supporting docs.

Maybe upstream README files shouldn't be included in Debian, and so do
changelogs...

> * THANKS (outdated)

2.10 ? Is it really outdated? :)

This is release 2.16 (and 2 other releases skipped) and it could only
help if such info is included too. Such info would validate help the
usefulness THANKS, unless it's lost or nobody cares.

thanks for the reply...

I guess probably both Attilio would better answer than me on that matter.

Well, everybody is free to jump in ans work on the issue, you know..:)

Forgive me if that sounded arrogant, but I wish I had proper mental
resources but I happen to a mere debian-user :-)

This option is only available to people who have booted the installer
with "expert". I have limited patience for people who think they are
experts and are not familiar with man pages.

Me not trying to cause any conflict, but newbies often learn a lot by
fiddling, and a small note on the installer on how sudo works won't
hurt (it will actually help such a newbie before he gets a small
headache and runs off to some "user-friendly" distro)...

Anyways, I didn't know that one has access to man pages during
installation. Is that because I'm a newbie myself?

Bug#410156: quodlibet: Does not play directly-invoked tracks from file manager

2007-02-07 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe

Package: quodlibet
Version: 0.23.1-1
Severity: normal

Quod Libet (that damn powerful of music players and organizers) can't
play tracks when invoked directly from file manager (Nautilus); It
just opens Quod Libet which shows up the state it was previously left
at. QL shouldn't surprise new users, as it did me. Check how the
lesser Banshee works in that front for reference which is pretty nice,
I think.

Bug#410155: quodlibet: Does not accept tracks contained within DnD'ed folders

2007-02-07 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe

Package: quodlibet
Version: 0.23.1-1
Severity: normal

Quod Libet (perhaps the most powerful ever music player and organizer)
currently can't handle folders containing tracks. One has to open them
folders and drag them tracks directly. I didn't mark this as wishlist
because users would be surprised since such functionality is available
in pre-historic players (XMMS, Winamp).

Bug#405289: quodlibet: a track that has been ffwded should be counted as skipped

2007-01-02 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe

Package: quodlibet
Version: 0.23.1-1
Severity: wishlist

I noted that that the ultra-powerful Quod Libet counts a track that
has been fast-forwarded as played but counts a track that has been
played nearly to the end as skipped. This is not fair.

Bug#405286: thunar: inability to open a file with Return when it's newly-created or when it has been newly pasted

2007-01-02 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe

Package: thunar
Version: 0.4.0rc1-2
Severity: normal

These are 2 separate bugs but are probably related:
* when pasting a file into some destination, it remains highlighted
but there is no response when pressing enter on it.
* creating a new text file and trying to open it with return opens the
next wrong file - the one next to the file of interest

2007-01-02 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe

Package: quodlibet
Version: 0.23.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Here's the message that occurs: "Xlib: unexpected async reply
(sequence 0x47d64)!". The sequence number is always different. There
was one time where there was a segmentation fault crash which is
probably unrelated and which I can't reproduce. This problem is
probably not Quod Libet's fault since it occured on another package I
couldn't remember.

Bug#406039: audacity: unable to play audio when another player is open

2007-01-07 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe

Package: audacity

Severity: grave

There's a pop-up telling that there was an error initialising the
audio i/o layer on start-up and mentioning that I won't be able to
play or record audio.
Maybe there should be a note on that pop-up asking the user to abort
other audio applications, which is rather drastic, since it hides the
problem.

On a different computer, the behaviour I complain against doesn't
appear. It actually works as intended. I'll check again on the
offending system.

After a more thorough check of what the problem really is, I realize
that the bug title should have been something like "gedit should have
a better way to recognize files than just using the filename".

Here's my situation:
On CLI, I use some program to put some text into a certain file and
then open that file with gedit. I do this repeatedly while using the
same filename since I don't need the previous data anymore. Since
gedit thinks it's still the same file, it jumps to the same index that
it was with the old file.

Maybe this is a rare use-case, but I'd be so glad if you could fix it...

I can't reproduce it with Epiphany 2.16.2 in experimental. Can anyone

Do you suggest that this bug might have been fixed in 2.16.2, or is it

I fail to see where it is claimed to be lightweight on memory. It is
lightweight compared to the heavy mozilla interface that everyone knows.

I'm sure a lot of people would understand light in terms of memory
rather than features.

Though I agree the description could be changed...

Please do since 'lightweight' can be misleading.

Could you please try with a real DVD image instead of creating your own

The file contents were created by dvdbackup, but yes I'll make an

Having now tried with epiphany 2.14.3, I can't reproduce it either.
Could you describe your problem more precisely?

You probably named the bookmark 'rc' instead of 'RC' (just checked).

Bug#401015: gedit: please put the cursor at first column and row on opening a document

2006-11-30 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe

Package: gedit
Version: 2.14.4-2
Severity: normal

If I've previously opened a specific file and closed it while the
cursor was at a specific location, gedit attempts to get to that
position when opening that file again. Unfortunately this behaviour
cause a bug in which, when one opens a different file, the cursor
would run away to some irrelevant position.

Bug#401014: epiphany-browser: add ability to add bookmark on toolbar during initial bookmarking

2006-11-30 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe

Package: epiphany-browser
Version: 2.14.3-3
Severity: minor

I find it uncomfortable that when I bookmark (Ctrl+D) a page that I
want visible on the toolbar, I have an additional step of visiting
Edit Bookmarks (Ctrl+B). If there isn't much space, you could remove
the 'similar' button since it's not noticeable anyways.

Bug#401504: nautilus: please allow unmounting of removable devices on left pane of the Places view

It would be nice if one could just unmount a device on the Places view
instead of having to go to Computer (or desktop) and unmount there. It
was interesting to find that thunar, XFCE4's file manager, has
something like this.

Hi,

Can you describe the bug that happens when you open a different file?

I don't understand this question, especially since I mentioned that
this behaviour becomes an issue when one opens a different file.

As for this feature in general, it can be turned of using gconf-editor.
See /apps/gedit-2/preferences/editor/cursor_position/restore_cursor_position

I think that option should be default.

You should not use a non-POSIX filesystem for your home directory.
Therefore, this is at best a minor issue.

I should have mentioned that I noted the problem when I tried to save
to a USB memory stick. I was surprised why I couldn't see the saved
file, only to realise the name contained that ':' character...

Sorry, I might have misunderstood something. Do you simply have a
problem with the default behavior, that the cursor is restored to the
last position, or something else?

On a different computer, the behaviour I complain against doesn't
appear. It actually works as intended. I'll check again on the
offending system.

Hi,

Is this a so common activity that you really need this?

It's a minor bug I know, but It would be a real nice feature, and I
often find myself needing it.

Do you know that you can add a whole topic to the toolbar and add any
new bookmarks you need on the toolbar in there?

That's a neat one, and I didn't know. Epiphany tends to have nice
little hidden features.

When right-clicking on the left-pane (Places view), the location
should not open, and should only display a pop-up displaying the
additional options one would expect from such an action. This reminds
me of a similar problem in Epiphany (2.14.3) where right-clicking on
the Bookmarks actually opens the bookmark in question, instead of
presenting me with some options that one would expect from such an
option.

Actually I often keep the window open for multiple saves; usually I do
some global changes, save, some per-song changes, saving, and then
rename. So this won't be changed upstream.

There is no room for a "Done" button.

The tag-editing window is not wide enough anyway, forcing me to widen
it in order to read many tags and especially on the 'rename file' or
'tag by filename' where the filenames can be lengthy. So, if the lack
of space is the main reason for objecting the "Done" button, please
reconsider. Fixing this bug would be make Quod Libet so much more
comfortable, and it already is my favourite audio player.

Please watch for filesystem changes in order to auto-update the folder

I occasionally set up a linux box for relatives or friends where you
usually have between 2 and 5 users and while they're used to be able to
define several users when eg installing XP this is not yet possible with
d-i and when I set up the users cmd-line it looks to them a bit "scary".
It's mere for the show effect "see you can define the users during
installtion just like with XP".

yours Martin

I suppose those users only used GUI on XP, and in that case GNOME and
KDE sure have facilities for that. It would still be a nice feature
though.

As the manpage says the --include option uses a regexp and thus +
means one or more times the previous character. You have to quote the
special regexp characters if you mean the actual chars.

I tried quoting as you suggest [ --include="libstdc++6" ] and it returns this:

Bug#390618: gedit: seems to consider only the initial permissions on a file

2006-10-02 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe

Package: gedit
Version: 2.14.4-2
Severity: normal

Using Gedit, the user opens a read-only file, then makes it writable,
but then has to re-open the document in order to write to it. Gedit is
only interested in the initial state of the file, which is an annoying
bug, minor as it may seem to someone else. Gedit, however forgets this
initial-state operation when the user closes the application, at which
it gives a warning that the document has not been closed, and is able
to save that document. It's a mess. This is a bit related to
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=382066.

I don't see this bug at all, highlighting or not. Can you tell me what
"scrambled" means. Also can you tell me what you are running top in (eg
xterm).

Scrambled - the output shows text in random places (instead of the
usual ordered way) and therefore rather unreadable. I will send a
screenshot on request.
The problem appears in gnome-terminal, tty and xterm.
note: this bug also appears in the LFS version of procps, so it's
probably upstream.
