Bug#935401: RFA: policyd-weight -- Perl policy daemon for the Postfix MTA
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I request an adopter for the policyd-weight package, a Perl policy daemon for the Postfix MTA. The package is implemented in Perl. Upstream is inactive since years, features have been implemented by myself on request and need. The package is in good shape although there are a few open bugs which are easy to fix and will be a good start for a new maintainer. Since Postfix itself has postscreen implemented for the same purpose the usage of this package will constantly decrease, probably. The package description is: policyd-weight is intended to eliminate forged envelope senders and HELOs (i.e. in bogus mails). It allows you to score DNSBLs (RBL/RHSBL), HELO, MAIL FROM and client IP addresses before any queuing is done. It allows you to REJECT messages which have a score higher than allowed, providing improved blocking of spam and virus mails. policyd-weight caches the most frequent client/sender combinations (SPAM as well as HAM) to reduce the number of DNS queries. Bug#931307: linux-image-4.9.0-9-amd64: Problems with Samba Shares?
Package: src:linux Version: 4.9.168-1+deb9u3 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, after upgrading to the latest linux-image-adm64 on stretch we're experiencing strange issues on a fileserver with samba: directory listings in subfolder of shares don't work after upgrading to 4.9.168-1+deb9u3 on the clients. I've rebooted the machine to linux-image-4.9.0-8-amd64 - with that version everything is working. It's implemented as "The sender A or MX records are bogus or empty", right. > And anyway, if the sender domain has a MX record, its A or records > shouldn't matter in the email context in any way. I agree, absolutly right - in the context of SMTP and if there is an MX record - A or records shouldn't matter. But consider that policyd-weight is not an MTA but a policyd daemon which was created to eleminate forged envelops senders ... and policyd-weight just considers A records among other things. Let me check the effort that needs to be done to change this behaviour but still - having private IP address in public DNS is bad, bad practice. -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG/MacGPG2 v2 Comment: GPGTools - http://gpgtools.org iQEcBAEBCgAGBQJV+znZAAoJECrSoAS/sh/h/wQH/3G1oUHZuWCc67+w+dH0u6WR RaSAzcxlkyfensLGQ7vzbM5cfp7K78sjP/1gBAIueCX0ueGzWE4y+0C7ybOH7QK0 uJLLtt4PAwN61Sc8j3j6lZ8S4c0/4yxZnw8SjAfW1kbzNJGHf2GhBBfDMiXf42Rp pux8IHiX+dxVb/aQqWwjYfpJ/oKSYz983IibANU75P/PbzTfCZxj+kCxe/zMDBgt MwzJ5ko+WiwEQ4pOBfoGRTUkht7dkaumNtoJjIGiAHz5/piUii2IPamPAkot6XC8 5oK12/1OBKxbrRWvUP9DBuUnGpOs5KSkLy41DLy9a2W/0CHIqjkKml2okgQGwyc= =6+nT -END PGP SIGNATURE-

If there is no MX but an A record of the sender domain then it receives a penalty only if DNSBL-listed. Log Entries: BOGUS_MX The sender A and MX records are bogus or empty. BAD_MX The sender domain has an empty or bogus MX record anthe client is DNSBL listed. This decision is absolutly reasonable in general. But ... in the context of mailservers and mailserver setups - there are third-party internet resources mailservers rely on and those resources have a direct impact of the functionality and configuration (well, "passive" but anyway) - updates for ClamAV for instance. Bug#763986: policyd-weight: lookup socket connection to ipv6 dns-servers not possible, throws warning and uses NET::DNS instead
Package: policyd-weight Version: 0.1.15.2-8 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, policyd-weight is not able to create a lookup socket connection if local dns server address is a ipv6 address - policyd-weight tries to create a new socket which fails because socket creation is implemented only for v4 with IO::Socket::INET but not but not for ipv6 with IO::Socket::INET6. The following warning message is generated: Oct 4 15:25:18 smaint postfix/policyd-weight[2926]: warning: child: could not open RBL Lookup Socket to ::1: IO::Socket::INET: Bad hostname '::1' Invalid argument policyd-weight in consequence of the failed socket creation then uses Net::DNS for dns resolution instead of a socket. Bug#752845: decode Net::DNS::DomainName
Hi Willem, thanks for your answer/reply on this issue and pointing out the "offical" replacement for "dn_expand()". In the long run it probably would make sense using Net::DNS::DomainName::decode but this requires some more changes to policyd-weight. Bug#726670: broken on system with IPv6-only dns resolver
Hi Alexandre, thanks for your bug report. I haven't verified your complete bug report yet. It seems like that this problems occurs due to the fact, that your local installation is v6 only and the configured DNSBLs do not offer IPv6-lookups nor are they reachable via v6 - therefor you run into the mentioned problems. Hi Ralf, you've created this reported in 2009, i've taken over maintenance of the package mytop in debian shortly and recreated the package based on version 1.9 which will hit testing shortly. Bug#575907: closed by Werner Detter (mytop: Don't show Delayed threads when sleeping threads aren't shown)
> Why do you consider one kind of waiting to be 'active' and the other > kind of waiting to be doing nothing? Because the "delayed insert thread" is a thread that received instructions to insert data into the database - that means there was an application/whatever fired up an insert statement but the thread which received the statement itself couldn't apply it to the database yet. A sleeping thread just received nothing. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
Bug#575907: closed by Werner Detter (mytop: Don't show Delayed threads when sleeping threads aren't shown)
Hi, >> Therefor a delayed thread is not considered a sleeping because a > delayed insert handler is literally not sleeping. > > I don't agree. A normal sleeping thread is waiting for a new connection > or a new query. A delayed insert thread is likewise waiting for a new > query / data to insert. So IMO the two are equivalent. I don't agree here as mentioned - a delayed insert thread is something different than a sleeping thread because a delayed insert thread is an active thread which is waiting for a connection to add rows to the queue in comparison to a real sleeping thread which is just doing nothing/waiting for a incoming connection or query. If you want a new switch for hiding delayed insert threads provide a patch for the latest version of mytop in debian (1.9.1-1 will hit unstable shortly). Hi, I'm kind of interested in taking over this packages as long as we can create the package from scratch with the latest version available 1.9.1 which has been released in February 2012. It just makes no sense to take care about the current version available in Debian but instead repackage the whole thing? Package: sponsorship-requests Severity: important Usertags: pu Dear Maintainers, recently I've uploaded my latest package policyd-weight 0.1.15.2-5 to unstable. I've requested to unblock this package to get it into wheezy, the request has been accepted. I suggest to add the patch which removes the DNSBL dnsbl.njabl.org from the policyd-weight source due to service shutdown of the list on 2013-03-01 also to the stable package as we had some problems with false positive responses after DNSBL's have been shut down in the past. The DNSBL dnsbl.njabl.org shouldn't be an issue from that perspective as they've emptied the zones rather than returning a match for all lookups but it's better to have a clean package and be sure that the debian package won't have any problems regardless of what happens to the mentioned DNSBL. Bug#702909: RFS: unblock policyd-weight/0.1.15.2-5
Package: sponsorship-requests Usertags: unblock Dear Maintainer, I've just created a new policyd-weight packages (0.1.15.2-5) which has just been uploaded to mentors.debian.net. It includes a new quilt-patch which removes the DNSBL dnsbl.njabl.org from policyd-weight due to service shutdown of the DNSBL on 2013-03-01. More information can be found on the website of the list operator: http://www.njabl.org/ As we had some problems with false positive responses after DNSBL's have been shut down in the past, I'd suggest unblocking this package to get it into wheezy. I'd also suggest to upload a new version of the stable package as it also includes the mentioned DNSBL. Here is a snipped from the changelog to point out the modifications: policyd-weight (0.1.15.2-5) unstable; urgency=high * Add 08_del_dnsbl.njabl.org.patch which removes dnsbl.njabl.org list due to servuce shutdown on 2013-03-01 * Bumped standard versions to 3.9.4 -- Werner Detter Tue, 12 Mar 2013 20:23:14 +0100 The URL of your package is: http://mentors.debian.net/package/policyd-weight The respective dsc file can be found at: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/policyd-weight/policyd-weight_0.1.15.2-5.dsc Thanks a lot, Werner Detter unblock policyd-weight/0.1.15.2-5 -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-3-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
