Bug#989150: ddclient: Fail to update IP address in some rare cases with PPP connection

2021-05-26 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: ddclient
Version: 3.8.3-1.1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I was using ddclient to manage my dynamic DNS for years.
I'm using a PPP connection which is supposed to remain connected all the time,
but still, disconnections can happen, and when it does, my IP address usually
need to be updated.
Using the /etc/ppp/ip-up.d update mechanism, ddclient was keeping my IP address
up to date most of the time.
But I ran into an unfrequent, but still major issue recently.

My PPP connection dropped and was re-established. ddclient updated the IP
address as it should. However, the PPP connection dropped and was
re-established a second time within a 5 minutes timeframe. ddclient refused to
update the IP address again, because it consider updating less than 5 minutes
after a previous update could be considered abuse.
The problem is, since I'm not running ddclient as a daemon, ddclient never
retried to update the IP address again, so my dynamic DNS was no longer valid.
It would remain like that until the next PPP reconnection, which could be weeks
later.

I installed darkstat and didn't understand why it didn't start with
invoke-rc.d. I figured out that it was because the -l argument takes
an IP+netmask combination in this form : 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0
insted of 192.168.0.0/24 as in the example.

I know it will not seems like a nice answer but would it be hard to try
with an other OS? Do you have a dual boot setup?

Is there any led on on your motherboard or network card when you are

Bug#527625: [iwl3945] Missing wireless channels 100 to 140 (802.11a 5 GHz)

2009-05-08 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.29
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi
When I load the iwl3945 module, I get this message :

iwl3945: Tunable channels: 11 802.11bg, 13 802.11a channels

According to wikipedia :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels

There should be 24 802.11a and 11 802.11bg channels for the US regdom (I
live in Canada).

cat /sys/module/cfg80211/parameters/ieee80211_regdom
US

When I look at the available channels :

sudo iwlist wlan0 channel
wlan0 24 channels in total; available frequencies :
  Channel 01 : 2.412 GHz
  Channel 02 : 2.417 GHz
  Channel 03 : 2.422 GHz
  Channel 04 : 2.427 GHz
  Channel 05 : 2.432 GHz
  Channel 06 : 2.437 GHz
  Channel 07 : 2.442 GHz
  Channel 08 : 2.447 GHz
  Channel 09 : 2.452 GHz
  Channel 10 : 2.457 GHz
  Channel 11 : 2.462 GHz
  Channel 36 : 5.18 GHz
  Channel 40 : 5.2 GHz
  Channel 44 : 5.22 GHz
  Channel 48 : 5.24 GHz
  Channel 52 : 5.26 GHz
  Channel 56 : 5.28 GHz
  Channel 60 : 5.3 GHz
  Channel 64 : 5.32 GHz
  Channel 149 : 5.745 GHz
  Channel 153 : 5.765 GHz
  Channel 157 : 5.785 GHz
  Channel 161 : 5.805 GHz
  Channel 165 : 5.825 GHz
  Current Frequency:2.412 GHz (Channel 1)

I found that channels 100 to 140 are missing from the list. This is half
of the available channels that my card can't tune. Is it normal? Maybe a
bad firmware? I use firmware 15.28.2.8 (debian package version 0.16).

Bug#525903: [tspc] Startup with ifupdown doesn't work for everyone

2009-04-27 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: tspc
Version: 2.1.1-8
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

tspc is started with ifupdown, pppd, etc. There should be a setting in
/etc/default/tspc which when set to false, would disable tspc completely.

It doesn't work well with wpasupplicant in roaming mode:

xav...@ex5620 /u/l/g/bin> sudo ifup wlan0
Restarting IPv6 tunnel: tspc
All transports failed, quitting

Error is 2: SOCKET_ERROR
TSP session done
 failed!

because it takes a few seconds to associate with the access point and
get the DHCP lease from the server.

So I would prefer a way to start it manually (or with dhclient-exit-hooks)

The best of the best would be to be able to choose the starting method :

0. off (nerver starts except if /usr/sbin/tspc is called directly)
1. init on startup
2. ifupdown (and/or pppd)
3. dhclient
4. manual only (invoke-rc.d)

The last part is more a wishlist, but I tagged the bug normal since it
also fails to start in some situations.

thanks

Xavier Douville

I did some more testing and found a work arround.

First, the new upstream "dahdi" driver doesn't solve the problem.

Second, I found an other maybe related bug. When I was doing light

The strange thing is that I tested both with and without the wcfxo
module loaded, and I only got the problem when the module was loaded. I
think that this bug always happens before and might be the source of the
"FXO PCI Master abort" bug. I didn't realise before because my kern.log
was full of the same message, so I had to look into kern.log.0.

Then I moved my X100P card from one PCI slot to an other... and now I
can't reproduce either bug!

Maybe this have something to do with a different IRQ being used? wcfxo
generate a lot of interupts. Or maybe my motherboard has a problem?

Anyways thanks for your help. If you think this bug won't happen to
anybody else because it's hardware related you can close it. Let me know
if you need more information.

Rate-limiting this message should be simple enough, regardless of the
original issue. I'll try to get to that in the coming days.

The only way to stop this is to rmmod wcfxo.

Why the driver does not recover is a separate issue.

This bug is very easy to reproduce on my computer. It's really
when I do network transfers. It doesn't bug when I copy a file on the
HDD. I know there are a lot of issues with IRQ with zaptel, but both
eth1 and sata_sil have a higher IRQ number than wcfxo so they should
have less priority right?

I'm not familiar enough with that, unfortunately.

You still get those messages even after the disk traffic is down?

(From the little I looked, I don't think this has been fixed in DAHDI)

Bug#519025: [ffmpeg-debian] Please clarify which codec is included (and which isn't), and what exactly is ffmpeg-debian

2009-03-11 Thread Xavier Douville

Hi

Ok I will go trough and list what I think could be improved in README.Debian

There is a section "FFmpeg names". It says that the stripped packages
will be named *-stripped-52 and that the (non existent) non-free
packages will keep the original name. This isn't the case again as the
stripped packages currently have the original name. Even if the
unstripped packages enter Debian, from what I understand they will use
the ubuntu namming convention *-unstripped-52.

The section about "disabled MPEG encoders" should be more specific
because most people don't have the source package and can't read
strip.sh. Anyways why would a user need to understand a shell script to
know what a package can't do?

From what I read in strip.sh, we could simply add :

"The following video encoders were disabled in debian because of patents
: H263, H264, MPEG2 video, MPEG4 and MS-MPEG4."

Next there is a section abouts patents, but only talks about MP3, AAC
and ASF. Is there a difference between those patents and those of the
mpeg encoders? If not it could be in the same section.

I hope this will help,

Xavier Douville

Right, thanks for this clarification.
I also understand that there is a formats.txt.gz file but it's a very
long file and it's not clear that mpeg4 encoding was disabled because of
patents and not because it's not supported by upstream. This is only a
suggestion but since ffmpeg, especially the ffmpeg binary package, is
commonly used to encode a video (as opposed to libavcodec which is used
most of the time to decode videos), and that mpeg4 is one of the most
popular codec, I think that we should either :

-Add something like "mpeg4 encoding disabled because of patents" in the
description?

-Add an other file in /usr/share/doc/ffmpeg which would only list
disabled codecs, and suggest an alternative? Readme.Debian already does
about half of that by saying that "mpeg encoders" are disabled. By the
way, this file may need an update since a lot of stuff written in 2006
seems outdated. There is a patents.gz file but it doesn't talk about mpeg4.

Hi

>From what I understand, ffmpeg-debian contains only DFSG compilant,
software patents-free codecs. I think that doesn't inlcude any MPEG
variant, right? If so, it should be marked clearly in the description
since MPEG support is for many people an important feature.

I have seen references to *-unstripped packages (which would support all
codecs supported by upstream) but I can't find them in Debian. Is it
still planned for the future or that's only the name suggested for
debian-multimedia?

I think that would help answer many "can't play video" questions.

thanks

Bug#483830: (no subject)

2008-11-21 Thread Xavier Douville
Hi

I have not been able to reproduce this bug, at least not with 2.6.26
(which is also the kernel used by Fedora Core 9)

dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/bigfile bs=1M

This process ends after filling the 2GB loop device on my laptop (Debian
testing)

ctrl+C does take 15 sec but I am not sure if it's a bug. It's instant
when not doing the command as root.

I don't have root access on FC9 machines here so I can't compare it.

iostat returns a valid speed (arround 20 MiB/s)

Bug#372692: confirm

2008-10-02 Thread Xavier Douville
I can confirm what Henrik said :

I use synaptics 0.14.7~git20070706-3 (from testing).

Here is my config :

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Synaptics Touchpad"
Driver "synaptics"
Option "SendCoreEvents""true"
Option "Device""/dev/input/mice"
Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
Option "HorizScrollDelta" "0"
Option "Buttons" "7"
Option "ButtonMapping" "1 2 3 4 5"
Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "true"
Option "HorizTwoFingerScroll" "true"
Option "RTCornerButton""0"
Option "RBCornerButton""0"
EndSection

So I have SHMconfig OFF (nothing can interfere). When I start X with
invoke-rc.d kdm start, all my settings work (I especially hate right and
middle button mapped to right top and right bottom).

But I tried to reload the psmouse module and now my settings no longer
work. It means that when I load psmouse after X is started, the touchpad
stays in its default config (with R*CornerButton mapped).

Bug#499827: linux-igd: upnpd segfault error 4 in libc-2.7.so

2008-09-22 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: linux-igd
Version: 1.0+cvs20070630-2
Severity: normal

It's the second time that my upnpd crashes with the following message
in dmesg:
upnpd[10145]: segfault at 7 ip b7e8a0a9 sp b4df81d0 error 4 in
libc-2.7.so[b7e1a000+155000]

My setup is a small home LAN. The most popular UPNP app is probably
Windows Live messenger, but we also use it for bittorrent.

Bug#498626: Packet lost when using kwlan. GUI very slow.

2008-09-11 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: kwlan
Version: 0.6.3-1
Severity: important

I use wpasupplicant in its roaming mode (wpa-roam in
/etc/network/interface). If I start kwlan, my wifi connection stay
alive but I get arround 40% packet lost (using ping). The Kwlan GUI is also very
slow (about 1-2 second after click to show the menu). When I kill
kwlan, packet lost instantly goes down to 0%.
Maybe I did something wrong, but if not this should be raised to an RC
bug because it makes the package unusable.

Hi
I finally think that my previous computer was broken. I transfered the
hard drives on an other system and I can't reproduce the bug. Since
nobody else confirmed my bug, I think we should tag it unreproductible
and close it. Thanks for your help. Sorry if I wasted your time...

To use airmon-ng with a mac80211 driver (such as iwlwifi or rt2x00), the

This works fine for me. Could you install the fish-dbg package and
provide a backtrace[0] of the mimedb process when this happens as well
as a log of running this through strace[1].

[0] - "gdb /usr/bin/mimedb (pidof mimedb)" and then run "bt"
[1] - strace mimedb -fd .doc

Hi

I attached the output of the two commands.
Thanks for your help.

Bug#487259: fish: mimedb -fd .doc takes 100% CPU forever

2008-06-20 Thread Xavier Douville

Package: fish
Version: 1.23.0-5
Severity: important

The command "mimedb -fd .txt" works fine (and for most other extensions
I guess) but it doesn't works for .doc. It takes 100% CPU forever. It
freezes fish in some cases such as "ls ~/" if there is a .doc file
in ~. In this case the solution is "killall mimedb". It's hard to
reproduce but happens to me at least once a week.

Thanks.

Bug#486519: iceweasel: Mouse buttons 6 and 7 no longger mapped to Back and Forward

2008-06-16 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: iceweasel

Severity: normal

In iceweasel 2, I can use my laptop's mouse buttons 6 and 7 for back
and forward, but it no longer works when I upgrade to iceweasel 3.
I guess it's the same for all mouses with many buttons.

First off, thanks for the new package! Now for the problem...

WPA does not work with this version of the driver, maybe other stuff too.

See this post for the patch that needs to be reverted to fix the problem:
http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4188

There is a fix available. I've tested just undoing the single line patch to
rt61pci.c and works nicely. Not tested any of the others.

Bug#419258: mozplugger: Clicking "back" deleted my work in OpenOffice

2007-04-14 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: mozplugger
Version: 1.7.3-6
Severity: important

When opening a document in OpenOffice (a .rtf in my case), mozplugger
opens a new window for OOo and lets the current browser tab empty.
The document is saved in /tmp/plugtmp, but clicking the "back" button
of the browser deletes this document and kills OOo without warning.
I tried clicking "next" but it redownloaded the original file (so I lost
what I modified).
I suggest that opening a new window should keep the browser on
the current page (not go to an empty tab) to avoid this problem.

Bug#400914: brickos: Firmware doesn't work. RCX makes strange noise.

2006-11-29 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: brickos
Version: 0.9.0.dfsg-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When using brickos 0.9.0.dfsg-2 the following command:
firmdl3 /usr/lib/brickos/brickOS.srec
always fails. The firmware is sent to the RCX, but when the transfer
is completed, it makes a continuous strange noise (and the system is
unusable)
I tried a few times with two different RCXs.
The package is unusable without the firmware on the RCX.
This might be related to gcc 4.1 (instead of gcc 2.95)

Bug#378880: kexec-tools: Shouldn't there be a way to keep both reboot and kexec reboot?

2006-10-24 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: kexec-tools
Version: 1.101-kdump10-2
Followup-For: Bug #378880

Hi

I checked the init scripts for kexec and they work fine, but I see a big
problem : we must choose between normal reboot and kexec reboot (by
editing /etc/default/kexec). I think we could add a /sbin/kexec_reboot
shell script which could be as simple as:

#!/bin/sh
touch /tmp/kexec
reboot

and modify /etc/init.d/kexec to check for /tmp/kexec. If the file
doesn't exists, kexec isn't launched.
There is probably a better way to do this, it's only a suggestion,
but I think it's important to have to diffrent commands for these two
different tasks.

Bug#381305: asterisk: Asterisk makes whole system crash if zaptel module not available

2006-08-03 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: asterisk
Version: 1:1.2.7.1.dfsg-3
Severity: important

If asterisk is configured to use a zap channel, and the zaptel module is
not loaded (with udev it also means that /dev/zap doesn't exist) my whole
system crashes about 3 seconds later. I can still ping it but I can't
ssh to it, and the local console is frozen too.
This occurs each time I upgrade the kernel and reboot.

Bug#380682: RFP: acpi4asus -- Asus laptop extras

2006-07-31 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: acpi4asus
  Version : CVS
  Upstream Author : Julien Lerouge <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://acpi4asus.sourceforget.net
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : Asus laptop extras

This project is a Linux kernel driver that allows owners of Asus laptops
to use all the functionality of their computers such as special keys,
brightness control, light sensor, bluetooth, etc.
It's included in the main kernel tree but outdated (two years old). It
would be nice if the CVS version was included in Debian as a separated
module os that we don't have to rely on uptream for updates.

Bug#364097: linux-image-2.6.16-1-686: /proc/cpuinfo reports wrong CPU frequency when using cpufreq since 2.6.16

2006-04-21 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: linux-image-2.6.16-1-686
Severity: minor

With 2.6.15 and under, /proc/cpuinfo reports true cpu frequency when
using cpufreq (at least on non-SMP x86)

But since 2.6.16, we only get the target frequency of the current
governor (ie. I get 1600 MHz instead of 1598.89 or something
else when my multiplier is 16, no mather if the FSB is 100 or 1000 MHz)

/proc/cpuinfo should report the true speed, so that we know if our CPU
is overclocked or underclocked.

Bug#362040: Devicescape stack

2006-04-20 Thread Xavier Douville
The new driver use the Devicescape wireless network stack. We would need
to package this first.

I tested the driver and it works, but I only get 60 KiB/s when using
WPA2/TKIP (tested with samba)

Bug#363640: rt2500-source: New CVS version now works on SMP machines

2006-04-19 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: rt2500-source
Severity: wishlist

It seems that the new CVS supports SMP (previous versions didn't for
some reasons)

See this thread for more info :
http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1182&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Download the new CVS at :
http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/rt2500-cvs-daily.tar.gz
As the sourceforge public CVS do not seems up to date.

This is a major milestone in this driver.

Bug#354072: asterisk-prompt-fr: French sounds are incomplete for asterisk 1.2

2006-02-22 Thread Xavier Douville

Please package more updated sounds such as those ones :
http://public.indigen.com/asterisk-1.2-sounds-fr-armelle.tar.gz

Current sounds are buggy and almost useless. It's even worst with asterisk 1.2.
At least
it fallbacks to the English prompt when the French one is not available.

Bug#290837: module-assistant: Here too

2005-02-02 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: module-assistant
Version: 0.7.2
Followup-For: Bug #290837

Hi, I'm the original reporter and tried to reproduce as soon as I got another
Sarge install available for testing.
I first got a problem building nvidia on my own PC, then tested on my sister's.
This report is about the problem on my sister's PC. I was intending to report
the problem on my PC when this more basic one would be resolved.
My friend just installed Sarge with stock kernel 2.6.8 on this laptop from
where I'm reporting and the same problem and it does the same thing as my
sister's PC.
Something's definitely broken...
