Bug#989150: ddclient: Fail to update IP address in some rare cases with PPP connection
Package: ddclient Version: 3.8.3-1.1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I was using ddclient to manage my dynamic DNS for years. I'm using a PPP connection which is supposed to remain connected all the time, but still, disconnections can happen, and when it does, my IP address usually need to be updated. Using the /etc/ppp/ip-up.d update mechanism, ddclient was keeping my IP address up to date most of the time. But I ran into an unfrequent, but still major issue recently. My PPP connection dropped and was re-established. ddclient updated the IP address as it should. However, the PPP connection dropped and was re-established a second time within a 5 minutes timeframe. ddclient refused to update the IP address again, because it consider updating less than 5 minutes after a previous update could be considered abuse. The problem is, since I'm not running ddclient as a daemon, ddclient never retried to update the IP address again, so my dynamic DNS was no longer valid. It would remain like that until the next PPP reconnection, which could be weeks later. Bug#519025: [ffmpeg-debian] Please clarify which codec is included (and which isn't), and what exactly is ffmpeg-debian
Hi Ok I will go trough and list what I think could be improved in README.Debian There is a section "FFmpeg names". It says that the stripped packages will be named *-stripped-52 and that the (non existent) non-free packages will keep the original name. This isn't the case again as the stripped packages currently have the original name. Even if the unstripped packages enter Debian, from what I understand they will use the ubuntu namming convention *-unstripped-52. The section about "disabled MPEG encoders" should be more specific because most people don't have the source package and can't read strip.sh. Anyways why would a user need to understand a shell script to know what a package can't do? From what I read in strip.sh, we could simply add : "The following video encoders were disabled in debian because of patents : H263, H264, MPEG2 video, MPEG4 and MS-MPEG4." Next there is a section abouts patents, but only talks about MP3, AAC and ASF. Is there a difference between those patents and those of the mpeg encoders? If not it could be in the same section. I hope this will help, Xavier Douville -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Fabian Greffrath a écrit : > Xavier Douville schrieb: >> I think that would help answer many "can't play video" questions. > > In Debian's ffmpeg version no codecs were stripped that would be > required for playback of video, only *encoders* have been removed. > > Right, thanks for this clarification. I also understand that there is a formats.txt.gz file but it's a very long file and it's not clear that mpeg4 encoding was disabled because of patents and not because it's not supported by upstream. This is only a suggestion but since ffmpeg, especially the ffmpeg binary package, is commonly used to encode a video (as opposed to libavcodec which is used most of the time to decode videos), and that mpeg4 is one of the most popular codec, I think that we should either : -Add something like "mpeg4 encoding disabled because of patents" in the description? -Add an other file in /usr/share/doc/ffmpeg which would only list disabled codecs, and suggest an alternative? Readme.Debian already does about half of that by saying that "mpeg encoders" are disabled. By the way, this file may need an update since a lot of stuff written in 2006 seems outdated. There is a patents.gz file but it doesn't talk about mpeg4. thanks Xavier Douville -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#487259: fish: mimedb -fd .doc takes 100% CPU forever
Package: fish Version: 1.23.0-5 Severity: important The command "mimedb -fd .txt" works fine (and for most other extensions I guess) but it doesn't works for .doc. It takes 100% CPU forever. I think we could add a /sbin/kexec_reboot shell script which could be as simple as: #!/bin/sh touch /tmp/kexec reboot and modify /etc/init.d/kexec to check for /tmp/kexec. If the file doesn't exists, kexec isn't launched. There is probably a better way to do this, it's only a suggestion, but I think it's important to have to diffrent commands for these two different tasks. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-p3 Locale: LANG=fr_CA, LC_CTYPE=fr_CA (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages kexec-tools depends on: ii libc62.3.6.ds1-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries kexec-tools recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
