Bug#349657: Freefont Alef and Lamed combine

2006-01-24 Thread Yitzchak Gale
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 2.0.0-5

When the unicode character 0x05D0 (HEBREW LETTER ALEF)
is immediately followed by 0x05DC (HEBREW LETTER LAMED)
in the FreeSans or FreeSerif font, the two characters
combine and are replaced by 0xFB4F (HEBREW LIGATURE ALEF LAMED).

The ligature is an archaic form that is not used
in modern Hebrew. The combination of Alef followed by
Lamed is very common in Hebrew, so this bug renders
these fonts nearly unusable for any OOo document that
needs to include Hebrew text.

The upstream developers have verified that this bug
only occurs on the Debian build of OOo, so it appears
not to be a problem with OOo itself or with the font.

The characters become combined any time they are
next to each other - not just when they are input.
For example, when I input Alef and Lamed separated
by some other character, then delete the other character,
the Alef and Lamed then combine.

The bug occurs for FreeSans and FreeSerif, but NOT
FreeMono, from the ttf-freefont package, version
20051102-2. That package installs version 1.28 of the
fonts. The bug occurs in both Writer and Calc.

The following builds of OOo were tested by the upstream
developers using version 1.27 of freefont, downloaded from
http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/freefont/freefont-ttf.zip
and manually installed to OOo using spadmin, on
a Debian testing system:

a) Hebrew 2.0 from OpenOffice.org.il
b) English 2.0 from OpenOffice.org
c) English 2.0.1 from OpenOffice.org
d) Debian OOo package 2.0.0-5 (English)

The problem ONLY occured for (d), the Debian package
build.

Bug#349657: This is a font bug

2006-01-24 Thread Yitzchak Gale
I now believe that this is a bug in
the fonts. It is still a mystery to me
why this problem only occurs in the
Debian build, though.

Please forward this bug to
ttf-freefont, and upgrade severity
to important.

In the freetype fonts, the OpenType
feature tag for the Alef-Lamed ligature (0xFB4F)
is "liga", which means "Standard Ligature".
That implies that the ligature is mandatory.

But this ligature certainly should not be
mandatory. The correct feature tag for this
ligature should be "dlig", which means
"Discretionary Ligature". See the OpenType
specification document for Hebrew at:

http://www.microsoft.com/typography/otfntdev/hebrewot/features.aspx

When I make this change in the SFD source
file and recompile using fontforge, the problem is
fixed.

Bug#301948: Urgent - need dependency package for kvim

2005-04-11 Thread Yitzchak Gale
Package: vim
Version: 1:6.3-068+4
Followup-For: Bug #301948

Yes kvim was suddenly removed entirely. As a result, I almost
accidentally deleletd all of KDE. I wonder how
many people have destroyed their system because of
this.

When a package with such heavy dependencies needs to
be removed, shouldn't it instead first be replaced
by a temprorary dummy package that causes the dependencies
to be satisfied?

Thanks!

Bug#301948: Urgent - need dependency package for kvim

2005-04-11 Thread Yitzchak Gale
This is a continuation of bug #301948.

Norbert Tretkowski wrote:

You are right, I deserved it. Lucky I looked this time :)
I'm still interested _which_ packages depends on kvim and caused the
removal of KDE on some systems. I checked this, but only found some
packages recommending kvim, which shouldn't be a problem.
The offending dependency chain is:
kde => kdeaddons => vimpart => kvim
Note that the last link is NOT a recommends - it is
a depends on.
...the packages depending on kvim should be fixed. I already
filed a bugreport against kde-extras (#303266), which recommends (and
not depends on) kvim.
Please, write bugreports against the packages which depends directly
or indirectly on kvim.
OK. I think vimpart is the culprit.

Bug#304189: vimpart: Remove depends on kvim

2005-04-11 Thread Yitzchak Gale
Package: vimpart
Version: 4:3.3.2-2
Severity: important

vimpart depends on choosing one vim flavor from
a long list. One package on the list is kvim -
and until now it seems to have been the default.

kvim was just removed entirely. As a result, I
almost accidentally removed all of KDE (lucky
I looked this time :)).

Bug#402753: lilypond-doc : there is no HTML documentation at all

2007-02-08 Thread Yitzchak Gale

Frank Küster wrote:

Well, there are still the info files. Whether it is grave or important
to not include the html docs, this I leave to the maintainer.

Never mind, let's fix it!

However, the bug can be fixed by adding rsync to Build-Depends-Indep.
At least this helped when I tried in a pbuilder chroot, using
"debian/rules binary-indep". I'm currently trying with
pbuilder/dpkg-buildpackage and a complete build.

Great! Hope it works.

However, I think even if this helps to re-include the html
documentation, there is still a bug left, and that is that the package
builds fine even when this command fails.

At least that's not RC.

Why this is so I don't know
offhand, but it might be that this (from GNUMakefile.in):

for a in `find . -name out-www`; do \
rsync -a --link-dest $$a/ $$a/ $$a/.. ; \
rm -rf $$a ; \
done \

will not cause Make to fail when rsync is missing because only the last
command counts. If that's true, then

rsync -a  --link-dest $$a/ $$a/ $$a/.. && rm -rf $$a ; \

might do (or not, since the for loop might still be successful if only
the first rsync call fails for some reason.

So then how about something like

 rsyncres=0 \
 for a in `find . -name out-www`; do \
   if rsync -a --link-dest $$a/ $$a/ $$a/.. ; \
 then rm -rf $$a ; \
 else rsyncres=1; break; \
   fi; \
 done; \
 [ $$rsyncres -eq 0 ]

A bit messy, but should do it.

While using binary-indep, I noticed that there are some files left in
debian/tmp/. Is this intended?

Yitz

Bug#405386: digikam: moving items loses tag and rating data in 0.9.0-beta3

2007-01-03 Thread Yitzchak Gale

As a heavy users of digicam (actually my kids, not me,
anyway...), we would lose a LOT more data from digicam
being removed from etch than from this bug.

It would be nice if 0.9.0-final could make it into etch,
but I have my doubts that it is possible at this point.

So I urgently request that this bug be downgraded
to important, or tagged etch-ignore.

Thanks!

Bug#397594: [Pkg-dia-team] Bug#397594: dia: Dia not on KDE Graphics menu

2007-05-07 Thread Yitzchak Gale

With KDE 3.5 and dia 0.96.1-2, it is included in the Graphics menu
(maybe in earlier versions, too?).

Dia still does not appear on the KDE Graphics menu
on my system. Currently I have:

kdebase 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-6
dia 0.95.0-4.1+b1

I have been running Debian testing for several years,
steadily upgrading packages as updates become
available. Both KDE and Dia have been on my
system for the entire time. Dia has never appeared
on the KDE Graphics menu.

Dia does appear on the Debian > Apps > Graphics menu.
But it should also appear on the KDE Graphics menu,
and perhaps also the KDE Development menu.

Bug#352811: emacs21: Font problem - characters displayed as boxes

2006-10-16 Thread Yitzchak Gale

I am running a generic testing box. I am not using a
font server - my font paths are hard-coded in xorg.conf.
I have added a few extra font paths.

Because of this bug, the only way I can use emacs
at this time is by using mouse menu commands:

Options -> Mule -> Set font

and then

Fontset -> standard: 16-dot medium

as suggested by Craig Duncan. I have to do that
every time I run emacs, because Craig's other suggested
work-around - using the "set-frame-font" command - does
not work for me. When I run M-X set-frame-font and hit
tab to get a *Completions* buffer, there are 640 fonts to
choose from. I admit that I have not yet tried every single
one, but none of the 30 or 40 that I have tried so far works.

Also, using the mouse menu "Set font" command does not
completely solve the problem. Buffers with font variations, like
the "Options -> Customize Emacs" buffers, still contain
boxes in place of some of the fonts, so I cannot use them.

Bug#352811: emacs21: Font problem - characters displayed as boxes

2006-10-18 Thread Yitzchak Gale

After installing a few font packages, my situation
is improved with respect to this bug, though
it is not fixed. Weirdly enough - after I purged all
of the font packages I just installed, nothing changed.

I installed exactly the following packages:

t1-xfree86-nonfree
ttf-larabie-deco
ttf-larabie-straight
ttf-larabie-uncommon
ttf-sjfonts
ttf-xfree86-nonfree
xfonts-efont-unicode
xfonts-efont-unicode-ib
bitmap-mule
xfonts-bitmap-mule
mule-ucs

Now the situation is as follows:

- I no longer get the "Warning" message
 when I start emacs.

- Some, but not all, of the text is visible on
the initial splash screens of emacs (before,
nothing was visible except the graphic).

- Regular buffers do not work until I change
 the frame font, as before.

- Using the mouse set font command, all
 fonts now work except Default.

- Using the set-frame-font function, all fonts
that I have tried now work.

- After changing the frame font, "Customize
 Emacs" now works.

- When I put a set-frame-font command in
my startup files in /etc/emacs21, all of the
text in the splash screens is now visible.

- Pop-up "tool tip" baloons still do not work,
 even after setting the font.

As mentioned above, this situation remains
even after I purged (not just deleted) the font
packages that I installed. I did not revert to the
worse situation described in my previous post.
