Bug#456227: sphinxsearch debian package

2009-06-15 Thread gothicx

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi Marco,

I really hope I'm not intruding on your packaging efforts. I actually
started to package sphinxsearch and then noticed you'd already filed an
ITP long beforehand, and were well on the way to getting a package
sponsored.

Hi! You're right.. it looks dead because people didn't have much time.

I followed the thread through on the ITP and noticed it's been some time
since the original ITP was filed and we don't yet have sphinxsearch in Sid.

Is there anything I can do to help - I know you mentioned you've been
busy so I'd be more than happy to work with you on packaging for debian
and ubuntu, and happy to take an active role if you aren't able to, or
just to provide assistance as needed.

Please let me know where I can be of use, so we can get this package
sponsored (My business uses sphinx on a regular basis, and from a
sysadmin perspective, it makes sense to get it into the stock repositories)

There is already some packaging stuff done at launchpad.net, you could get
the branch using: bzr branch lp:pkg-sphinx

Try to do some patches for it, and if they're fine people will add you
as team member,

so you have the right to commit yourself.

Thanks

goth...@sapo.pt wrote:

Is there anything specific preventing it from being packaged? I can see
straight off some lintian warnings that I resolved so I can patch those
in if you'd like?

Else let me know of anything holding up going into debian/ubuntu and
I'll work on those.

Hi!

I really don't know the state of the package in that repository, but if you
can fix the lintian warnings, that would be good. I think other team members
could help you more than I.

Try https://launchpad.net/pkg-sphinx and talk to Paul Schulz or Monty Taylor.

Bug#528202: [Python-apps-team] Bug#528202: babiloo: long description no sentence

2009-05-12 Thread gothicx

Hi!

Gerfried Fuchs wrote:
  It would be nice if the long description of your package could consist

Hi Rhonda!

I tried to improve it a bit, I hope you like it...

---
Description: dictionary viewer with multi-languages support
 Babiloo is a dictionary viewer that supports various formats
 and HTML displaying for the supported dictionaries.
 Able to download more dictionaries within the application.

   ^^

 This part is still the same, and it's not a sentence. That was what I
was refering to. This sentence is missing its subject, what is able to
download more dictionaries?

 Features:
   * Support for many languages / fonts rendering.
   * Don't convert dictionaries, use originals.
   * Phonetic sounds.
   * Advanced search.
   * Collaborative dictionaries.

 ... furthermore, I now notice you indent the list even with three
spaces instead of only two - is there any special reason to do so?

Hi!

Now I see what's wrong... I hope I've improved it this time.

Description: dictionary viewer with multi-languages support
 Babiloo is a dictionary viewer that supports various formats
 and HTML displaying for the supported dictionaries.
 Babiloo allows the download of more dictionaries from Internet.
 .
 Features:
  * Support for many languages / fonts rendering.
  * Don't convert dictionaries, use originals.
  * Phonetic sounds.
  * Advanced search.
  * Collaborative dictionaries.
 .
 This package contains the GUI frontend and common files.

The features items really had three spaces, but it doesn't have any
special reason,

just my mistake. Thanks for remind me about it.

Bug#521226: alarm-clock

2009-05-12 Thread gothicx

Marco,

I have packaging done for the C version of alarm-clock, however after
talking with upstream it seems like for now the Python version should
be left in Debian. Once upstream releases the C version as a stable
release I will have my package uploaded.

Hi!

Ok.. looks like the C version doesn't have yet all the features of
python version, so

he's waiting to finish them.

But I think it would be nice to upload it at least to experimental, so
people could start

testing it.

What do you think ?

Bug#516282: debconf doesn't work if password contains some character sequences

2009-02-20 Thread gothicx

Package: ddclient
Severity: normal

This bug was originally reported in Ubuntu. Just keep track of it in BTS.

When I configure ddclient, debconf asks me for a password. If I enter
password that contains some character sequences like backslash
followed by digit zero, they are interpreted as escape sequences.
Workaround is to edit ddclient.conf manually.

Thanks for the suggestion, will do! [ As an aside, I am still puzzled why on
Earth the Ubuntu folks can't ping us (i.e. Debian maintainers) directly. ]

Hadley and Michael: If you have a second, could you also glance at the
patch?  Its changelog entry says

  * Converted xdg/ggobi.png to debian/ggobi.xpm
  * Made debian/ggobi.xpm and xdg/ggobi.desktop to be installed
properly (LP: #113178)

and I know too little about these dekstop.org and Gnome/KDE desktop files. Is
xpm better? Is that something you could or should do upstream?

I think you can use the .png one, maybe Hadley or Michael disagree.
Maybe you should only add the .desktop file and use the .png for the
icon.

http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec-0.9.4.html

You've more information here about desktop files. It's a freedesktop
standard, so Gnome and KDE should follow it.

Thanks!
