2011-04-12 Thread Jaromil

hi Lucas,

i'm upstream author and i'd like to become the maintainer for the
hasciicam package, having already collaborated in the past to fix this
package and now willing to accelerate such fixes.

the bug you point out is already fixed in the new upstream release
1.1.1 of hasciicam, for which i've also made a debian package, see
http://apt.dyne.org/debian/pool/main/h/hasciicam/

so far i've found no mentor with time to sponsor my upload.

i'd be grateful if you can do it and help me proceed through the
process of becoming maintainer for the package.

thanks,

best regards

2011-02-28 Thread Jaromil
- Forwarded message from Jaromil jaro...@dyne.org -

[SNIP]

i'm hereby reacting on the bug #614458 which seems quite serious: it
blocks compilation of freej* and libfreej* (for which i'm uploader and
upstream). this bug, along with others which weren't yet processed by
the buildbot, was fixed in october 2010 (namely a patch for
compilation on amd64).

i've given it a sping and packaged a new upstream import
(0.11-git20110225-1) and got it ready on our own apt repository at
dyne.org - for your convenience.

 deb http://apt.dyne.org stable main
 deb-src http://apt.dyne.org stable main

you'll find the source and i386 + amd64 binaries.

this package fixes some previously open lintian issues and leave open
just some less relevant issues (wishlist and one normal), but most
importantly it compiles correctly with pbuilder and should finally
close bug #614458

[SNIP]

ciao

What is the crypto backend? This is of extreme importance, and should

thanks for your pointer. I've now appended the text below to the

Tomb relies on dm-crypt (and cryptsetup) as an encryption backend

will standby for more feedback and include this modification in 0.9-2

the short description was not just choosen by me, but also
suggested by other video experts, as freej is in fact a software
  vision mixer

That doesn't change the fact that the Debian Policy says

 | The description should describe the package (the program) to a
 | user (system administrator) who has never met it before so that
 | they have enough information to decide whether they want to
 | install it.

The point is that even without insider information, you should have
an idea what the program does.

maybe it is time to update the policy, considering that GNU/Linux
distributions as debian don't include only system administrator's
tools and that some knowledge can be classified as easily reachable
especially when explained on wikipedia.

would you agree to pose the question to a wider attention?

After reading the wikipedia page, I would suggest something along
 software for mixing video sources.

that description gets close to it but it is not correct because:

1) it is obviously a software, so the word can be skipped

2) freej also encodes and streams, is programmable via midi and other
   controllers

as such the diciture vision mixer leaves some space for addictional
information while basically indicating in two words what you are
suggesting.

While you are at it, the long description could also be reworded to
 become more informative. See also
 http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/best-pkging-practices.html#bpp-desc-basics
for more guidelines for writing descriptions.

i did study those guidelines in the past, even if i'm just an
upstream author not univocally linked to debian development, i found
them useful. now could you point out what in the long description
should be rectified?

thanks,
ciao

Unfortunately I can't offer a suggestion because I am not exactly sure

not, and in that case I will make it i386 only for the time being!

FWIW, I can do some compilation and testing on non-i386 arches if
upstream wants to make it more generic. However, I don't have time to
 submit patches myself.

hi,

FreeJ was big-endian compatible in version 0.7
with version 0.8 some features are limited (ogg/theora video compression
realtime is not yet optimized for altivec) but it is still compatible
with ppc architectures. it might require some smoothings depending on
the OS (ppc compatibility is tested on darwin/osx), i'm grateful for
help in fixing that, i can't really do it myself since i don't own a PPC
but i can borrow here and there to make patches.

in case you plan to help with that, please use the latest code in the
subversion repository
svn co svn://dyne.org/rastasoft/freej

ciao

Bug#292231: Resolution of #292231 [Manpage of hasciicam]

Greetings; I NMUed hasciicam to fix an RC bug that was holding up a
package transition in Debian. In the process of making this NMU, I
discovered that the package contained a GFDLed manual which was
 declared invariant in its entirety.

I'm not sure who is actually the holder of the copyright on this
manual, but I plan on requesting hasciicam's removal from the archive
within the next week unless this can be resolved, ideally by licensing
the manpage under the GPL or whatever license hasciicam is currently
 under.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Christian: If you no longer have time to maintain this package (I
notice that you have multiple unack'ed NMUs) kindly indicate that it
has been orphaned by filing the appropriate bug against the wnpp
 package.

hi,

i changed the GFDL of the manpage after a discussion that should be
still archived somewhere in your bug tracker.

Since Apr 18 11:49:35 2005 UTC (10 months ago) hasciicam has a manual
with NO INVARIANTS, see:

http://code.dyne.org/viewcvs.cgi/hasciicam/hasciicam/hasciicam.1?rev=548root=rastasoftcontent-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup

and

http://code.dyne.org/viewcvs.cgi/hasciicam/hasciicam/hasciicam.1?root=rastasoft

thanks for your attention to details, ciao

Rebuilding should fix this and drop unnecessary dependencies on slang.

FYI: freej depends on s-lang directly,
i never tested it with s-lang2, but it should work ;)
