Bug#743432: libreoffice-gtk: closing calc under gnome with -gtk installed causes gnome session crash

2014-11-04 Thread matteo nunziati
Package: libreoffice-gtk
Version: 1:4.3.3~rc2-1
Followup-For: Bug #743432

Dear Maintainer,

once again a new update of testing and a new report...

this time I've got a bit of time for deeper testing.

rather than running the libreoffice script I've tried to
run oosplash directly and soffice.bin directly.

the result is that what causes gnome to crash or
go close-to-crash is oospash.

running libreoffice with gtk theme via soffice.bin is safe
and reliable.

oosplash with gtk causes issues. everything ok
with oosplash if I remove the gtk extension.

I've run a session under gdb (with debug symbols downloaded)
but I can't see any info even if gnome can't recover from
a closed file. everything is ok for gdb.

I haven't the time to look into the code currently.
sorry.

M

Bug#768060: sysvinit-core doesn't trigger a dracut initrd rebuild if installed after systemd

2014-11-04 Thread matteo nunziati
Package: sysvinit-core
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I'm running a weekly updated jessie/sid.
systemd is the default init, dracut the default
initram generator.

last sunday I've tried to install sysvinit-core along with
systemd-shim to substitute the systemd init process and
login to gnome after a sysv init (makefile style).

the reboot still used systemd as init system.

after investigation I've rebuild the initrd with dracut,
via:
$ dracut --omit="systemd"

the new initrd actually used sysv to init the system and
everything has gone fine.

Bug#743432: libreoffice: closing calc under gnome causes gnome session crash

2014-04-02 Thread matteo nunziati
Package: libreoffice
Version: 1:4.1.5-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I run calc for csv visualization, I open a number of files during the day
and I close them as well very often (even 3-4 files per minute, as
they provide some simulation results I've to check).

everytime I close calc gnome has a strange refresh like entering and exiting
from
the 'expose' view. then gnome crashes after somethin like 10 of these
events.

as no other software induses this I've files a bug against libreoffice.

Bug#741491: logind doesn't suspend on lid closure while pm-suspend does

2014-03-12 Thread matteo nunziati
Package: logind
Version: systemd
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I've recently updated from wheezy to jessie due to driver issues with a new
hardware:
my new laptop lenovo T440.

I've upgraded by changing apt target distro to jessie and issuing:
aptitude update && aptitude dist-upgrade

at reboot systemd was there.

I've noticed that logind doesn't suspend at lid closure,
while both issuing pm-suspend or pressing the suspend button from the gnome UI
does the job.

looking at dmesg this is the output when I close the lid:
[ 343.968196] systemd-logind[3218]: Lid opened.
[ 344.019459] systemd-logind[3218]: New session c2 of user utente.
[ 347.728220] systemd-logind[3218]: Lid closed.
[ 347.728397] systemd-logind[3218]: Removed session c2.
[ 347.779244] systemd-logind[3218]: New session c3 of user utente.

and nothing happens "within" the two sessions.

I've tried to issue a `systemctl suspend` but any systemctl command ends in the
following error:
Failed to get D-Bus connection: No connection to service manager.
(both as root and standard user)

whould be nice to patch this for debian or, at least, remove it.

I've tried both a localhost setup and a remote setup on lan

1) I've modified the run script adding the following switches:
--export-all --enable=receive-pack
2) I've restarted the daemon with:
sv stop git-daemon && sv start git-daemon
3) I've created a test tree:
cd /var/cache/git && git --bare init test
4) I've cloned it in a user home:
git clone git://localhost/git/test
5) I've made few trivial modifications
(touched a file, git add 'ed it, git commit'ed it)
6) I've pushed it:
git push origin master
7) the following error arisen:
error: unpack failed: unpack-objects abnormal exit

as proof:
1) erased the cloned project
2) repeated all steps by using the local path:
git clone /var/cache/git/test, etc...
no issue arisen and changes have been pushed to master

as second proof:
1) I've created a new project on a remote machine on a lan
2) I've tried to clone, commit and push via git:// and got the same unpack
error
3) erased all
4) mounted the git repo folder via nfs
5) performed all cloning, commit, push operations via the nfs mount
no problem arisen

as third proof:
1) removed the git-daemon-run
2) dowloaded the òatest stable code from upstrime
3) compiled and launched the git-daemon-tool
4) re done the hole stuff
5) no error arisen

conclusion: a bug stops users to push with the provided daemon.

Bug#605229: installation-reports: issue with /etc/network/interfaces and network manager

2010-11-28 Thread matteo nunziati
Package: installation-reports
Severity: important

after the first login in the fresh system I've installed the non-free firmware
for my intel 4650 card. everything goes sooth and NM_Applet (gnome) detected
the card and connected my pc to the home router. the issue is related to the
wired nic (a realtek one, used for the network install): the ethernet card was
"not managed" by NM (it was configured in /etc/network/interfaces for using the
dhcp). due of this NM causes some issues with my interfaces.

I've made the following experients in several reboots:

-start with wired nic connected: internet access was available. removed the
plug: no more internet even if the wifi nic was described as connected to the
router
-start without wired nic connected: wifi was a charme. re-plug the cable: same
issues as above
-commented out the eth0 config in /etc/network/interfaces and reboot the
network stack (service networking restart && service network-manager restart):
everything gone perfect. I'm now able to connect the wired nic, disconnect it,
use only wided nic and no wifi. in any combination I can surf the web.

don't know if this is a D-I issue or a NM one. also don't know what happens if
a free firmware is available for both interfaces at install time

Bug#604155: my experience with this bug

2010-11-28 Thread matteo nunziati
Package: installation-reports
Severity: normal

I've foind exactly the same bug: simply the conf (/boot/grub/grub.conf) file
generated by D-I doesn't contain any windows entry: I've checked it at the
first login into the fresh system.
after reboot into the fresh debian system I've run: su; grub-mkconfig; grub-
install and the issue has been fixed. it seems something happens with the
grub.conf file generated by the installer
