Bug#407097: linux-source-2.6.18: 2.6.18-7 missing ./debian directory. make-kpkg fails.
Subject: linux-source-2.6.18: 2.6.18-7 missing ./debian directory. make-kpkg fails. Package: linux-source-2.6.18 Version: 2.6.18-7 Severity: important *** Please type your report below this line *** I am unable to configure or compile the kernel using make-kpkg. The command fails with the following message: # make-kpkg --config menuconfig kernel_image exec make -f /usr/share/kernel-package/ruleset/minimal.mk debian /usr/share/kernel-package/ruleset/minimal.mk:53: No .config file found /usr/share/kernel-package/ruleset/minimal.mk:98: *** Please create a .config file. Stop. Failed to create a ./debian directory: No such file or directory at /usr/bin/make-kpkg line 1096. There is indeed no debian directory within the unpacked linux-source-2.6.18 directory. I see no information about the method of kernel compilation having changed, so I can only assume that the package is currently unusable. I am also assuming it is not a problem with make-kpkg, since the debian directory does exist in previous linux-source packages (such as 2.6.17) and is only missing in this 2.6.18 one. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-3-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages linux-source-2.6.18 depends on: ii binutils 2.17-3 The GNU assembler, linker and bina ii bzip2 1.0.3-6high-quality block-sorting file co Versions of packages linux-source-2.6.18 recommends: ii gcc 4:4.1.1-15 The GNU C compiler ii libc6-dev [libc-dev] 2.3.6.ds1-8 GNU C Library: Development Librari ii make 3.81-2 The GNU version of the "make" util -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#409019: linux-image-2.6.18-3-686: Fails to uninstall/purge.
Subject: linux-image-2.6.18-3-686: Fails to uninstall/purge. Package: linux-image-2.6.18-3-686 Version: 2.6.18-7 Severity: normal *** Please type your report below this line *** I cannot get this package to uninstall/purge from the system. No matter what I do I continue to get the following error: dpkg: error processing linux-image-2.6.18-3-686 (--purge): subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 128 Errors were encountered while processing: linux-image-2.6.18-3-686 I have tried reinstalling the package to attempt to get a proper install, and then trying to purge it again, with the same result. Nothing I do seems to get rid of it. Note: this error occurs only with dpkg, or with dselect as the front-end to dpkg. If I attemp "apt-get --purge remove linux-image-2.6.18-3-686" instead, apt-get tells me the package is not installed. There's seems to be some sort of disconnect betwee the two, obviously. Nevertheless, I cannot get this out of my dselect queue since it always fails, and subsequent dselect runs just try it again and again. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages linux-image-2.6.18-3-686 depends on: ii coreutils 5.97-5 The GNU core utilities ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.11 Debian configuration management sy ii initramfs-tools [linux-initra 0.85e tools for generating an initramfs ii module-init-tools 3.3-pre3-1 tools for managing Linux kernel mo Versions of packages linux-image-2.6.18-3-686 recommends: ii libc6-i686 2.3.6.ds1-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries [i -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
