Bug#853736: Battery sometimes not detected (Macbook Air 2011 and Macbook Pro 2012)

2020-10-31 Thread robert b
I am running 4.9.0-14 and I also have this problem. Only by rebooting into
MacOSX (I have a dual-boot system) first before rebooting into Linux does the
battery consistently get detected and put into /sys/class/power_supply/
correctly.  I have a MacBookPro8,1 .

2016-10-06 Thread robert b
It appears that there is an implicit dependency of chromium upon libsecret-1-0
. I had to upgrade it from:

 dpkg -l libsecret-1-0
 Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
 | Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
 |/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
 ||/ Name   Version  Architecture Description
 +++-==---=
 ii  libsecret-1-0: 0.15-2   amd64Secret store

to

 dpkg -l libsecret-1-0
 Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
 | Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
 |/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
 ||/ Name   Version  Architecture Description
 +++-==---=
 ii  libsecret-1-0: 0.18-1+b1amd64Secret store

It now works and doesn't crash.

I managed to get chromium-dbg installed. Below is the gdb output.

I am still unsure what's causing the crash.

Bug#838864: chromium crashes soon after start

2016-10-02 Thread robert b

Good question.

I just checked and, no, all of the dependencies are at "stable".

No.  Chromium:amd64.

Disk space is the biggest problem. (The chromium-dbg package is almost 1
gig and don't have that much space available.)

BTW, I also tried running strace on chromium. Unfortunately, the seg
fault happened before it could flush to the strace output, so I don't know
where it actually crashed.

Would it help if I sent you a core dump?

Bug#838864: newest upgrade didn't work either

2016-10-02 Thread robert b
Upgrading to chromium 53.0.2785.143-1~deb8u1 has the same behavior -- it
crashes after about 15 seconds.

Bug#838864: chromium crashes soon after start

2016-09-25 Thread robert b
Package: chromium
Version: 53.0.2785.113-1~deb8u1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

Started chromium.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

Upgraded from chromium 52 -> chromium 53. Downgrading to chromium 52 makes it
work again.

Tried "chromium -g" and it appeared to crash when calling some function in
ld-linux-x86-64 . (Note that, due to limited resources on the machine in
question, I cannot download and use chromium-dbg.)

   * What was the outcome of this action?

About 10-15 seconds later, chromium gets a segmentation fault.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

It to continue to work.

Bug#654980: xserver-xorg: keyboard problems only in X/Windows

2012-01-07 Thread robert b
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.6+10
Severity: normal

My Dell USB keyboard does not work at all in XWindows -- no keystroke input can
get through. The keyboard works perfectly fine in the Linux tty console.

The USB (via a PS2 converter) mouse works fine and the display works.

I do notice that, when bringing up a terminal window, the cursor blinking
changes when attempting to type keys. This indicates to me that inputs are
going somewhere, but I have no idea where they're going or how to discover
where they're being sent to or ending up.

I recently tried upgrading udev to see if that would clear up the problem, but
it didn't change or improve anything.

I managed to ssh to the host and, after doing "startx" to bring up the session
and setting my DISPLAY to :0, started xev. After moving the cursor into the
window and typing the carriage return key, I got the below. It looks like the
keyboard input is getting through, but again, don't know who or what is
capturing it.

Bug#632213: Acknowledgement (socket: No buffer space available)

Looks like the problem seems to be strange interaction of lokkit and
inadyn . Inadyn was constantly making connections which were getting
blocked by the iptables set up by lokkit. These sockets were being
allocated (this was seen by doing "lsof|grep '\'") but never
deallocated nor released/freed.

I fixed the lokkit rules to allow the connection and now the number of tcp
sockets seems to be reasonable again.

So, it had nothing to do with recently installed packages.

Bug#632213: socket: No buffer space available

2011-06-30 Thread robert b
Package: libpq5
Version: 8.4.8-0squeeze1~bpo50+1
Severity: normal

I am a user of an account on an OpenVZ system.

After booting, the system will run fine for a while. Then, at some point,
all network access is cut off, giving the error
"socket: No buffer space available" (for example, "telnet localhost 80" gives
this).
The only way to fix the problem is to reboot the system.

/proc/user_beancounters is included below. Clearly, numtcpsock reaches its
maximum and does not decrease.

Something changed within the last few weeks to cause this. I've included below
the list of packages which were downloaded recently.

Very few connections are open:

# /usr/bin/lsof -i|wc -l
17
$ netstat -ta|wc -l
16

Since it has so many reverse dependencies, my guess would be that libpq5 is at
fault.
