Bug#818598: src:linux: MTD device probe failed after migrating kernel variant from -orion5x to -marvell

2016-03-30 Thread Sandy Gould
Adding the cfi_cmdset_0002 module to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and an
update-initramfs -u did the trick for me too. Thanks for the info.

Bug#743623: default behavior - another workaround

2014-04-12 Thread Sandy Shores
default behavior?
no subscribed - please add me in CC

Hi Ian,
I think the default AccelMethod for the stable X stack  + kernel is
"accelmethod" "uxa".
see: man intel

Another workaround for the stable ( wheezy) X stack is to force sna with a
minimal /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-intel.conf

Section "Device"
 Identifier " card0"
 Driver    "intel"
 Option  " AccelMethod"   'sna"
EendSection

I think this is default behavior.

Will

Overall install:[O]

Comments/Problems:

install was flawless to sda10 using an ext4 default filesystem.

see # 695476
After install issues with X for this machine.
I did a minimal Debian install (unchecked everything during tasksel)
then I did a minimal X install with firmware-linux and firmware-linux-nonfree
( original dmesg showed firmware for intel E100 network was missing ),

X started fine ( as far as I could see ), to fallback xterm session.
until I tried to open a second xterm and run a command in the second xterm
when the system hung with an audible buzz.
I'll setup ssh if debian-boot or debian-x want moreinfo.

Comments/Problems:

Works great, nicely done.

Initially installed grub to /dev/sda by default , so I had to Go Back and
install grub to the mbr of /dev/sdb
where I wanted it.
GDM3 throw up an error at login and gnome started in fallback mode. Nothing
unexpected here.

Bug#684353: nuauth: After reboot /var/run/nuauth files/directories are absent, build target should be /run/nuauth

2012-08-08 Thread Sandy Beach
Package: nuauth
Version: 2.4.3-2.1+b1
Severity: normal

nuauth installs and runs fine.
After rebooting the system files no longer populate in /var/run/
I added the -p argument to mkdir on line #55
check_var_run_dir() {
if [ ! -d /var/run/$PID/$PID ]; then
mkdir -p /var/run/$PID/$PID
chown $NUAUTH_USER /var/run/$PID/$PID
fi
now nuauth dies "cannot create /var/run/nuauth/nuauth.pid"

I tried to set the target for /run/nuauth in /etc/init.d/nuauth
again nuauth dies "cannot created /var/run/nuauth/nuauth.pid"
I cannot find where the script calls for /var/run/nuauth/nuauth.pid

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NuFW (external links)
lists the projects new name as
http://www.ufwi.org/

apoligies for reporting this so late in the release cycle.
best regards

Other methods -- a hardware RNG, turbid(1) or Havege(1) -- are generally
preferable to maxwell(8) if they can be used; the main applications of
maxwell(8) are on systems where those are impractical or as a second
generator as a failsafe measure.

Bug#662736: Some concerns about adding maxwell to Debian

2012-07-23 Thread Sandy Harris
I am the author of Maxwell. Replies to some comments

Valid concerns. Certainly where a hardware RNG or audio device
is available, that should be used in preference to Maxwell. In
particular, I would say supporting Turbid (discussed in the
Maxwell paper and, last I looked, also on the Debian list of
requested programs) is more important than Maxwell.

The target I was thinking of in designing the program was Freedom Box.

Yes

Arguably, that is built in. I cite research showing about one
bit of entropy per sample and run tests that show somewhat
more. The program's default is 48 samples per 32-bit output.
The user interface lets the admin increase the number of
samples per output, but not lower it.

The 48 above is 16 times a #define compile-time constant.
If a particular environment needs more, changing that
constant is easy.

Good idea.

Where can I get info on those patches? I am on the linux-crypto list
and have not noticed them there.

I thought I'd dealt with that in the man page & PDF.

I've been using various Unix or Unix-like systems for several decades and
working on crypto & security for quite a while too. I hope to be around
and active in those areas indefinitely. Subject to assorted constraints,
I'm willing to assist in any way you need.

That said, I think of Maxwell as a finished project, and have no plans
for a version 2.0 or other changes.

Bug#302441: Shipping Clerk - flexible time work-at-home opening

2007-09-29 Thread Sandy

Our company is looking for energetic and accountable individuals to occupy
Shipping Clerk positions throughout the USA. These vacancies are entirely
home-based and do not require any travel or relocation. They are also
suitable for students and senior citizens who are able to dedicate up to
three business hours per day to their duties. No special qualifications are
required, although previous shipping or customer service experience is a
plus. We are an international company providing mail/internet order
opportunities for a global clientele since 1997. We are based in Russia, and
also have offices in Latvia and Kazakhstan. Our business provides
online/Online Order facilities for those who are unable to benefit from the
convenience of e-commerce due to lack of a banking relationship with an
internationally recognized bank or because major online vendors will not
ship to their location. We have domestic purchasing agents who place the
orders on behalf of our clients, and the goods are then shipped to the local
shipping clerks for further sorting and international shipment. We also
provide escrow services for high amount and/or web auction orders, and offer
assistance with customs clearance, if required. Currently, we are looking
for individuals to fill in the positions of shipping clerks throughout the
USA. Your duties will include receiving, sorting, repackaging and re-sending
the orders made on behalf of our clients using the pre-paid USPS shipping
labels that you will receive via email. You will be paid $20 for each parcel
that you ship, plus $5 for each order that you will need to re-sort or
re-package. We will also cover any other authorized expense, such as extra
insurance or shipping materials. Your remuneration will be remitted to you
via Western Union twice a month. You can expect to handle 5-15 incoming
packages weekly, following a 2 week probation period. You can perform your
duties from the convenience of your home. You will generally be re-shipping
the orders on same day or next day basis, so you will not need to sacrifice
your home space to storage. You will only be receiving orders placed with
reputable online vendors and delivered by major courier services, such as
FedEx and UPS, who pay great attention to ensuring that they are not
involved into trafficking any illegal substances or hazardous materials.
Thus, there will be no risk on your end. We also encourage you to open and
inspect each package that you receive to ensure the legitimacy and safety of
itsâ content. In order to fill the shipping clerk position, you need to be
aged 18 and above, have a permanent address where you are available on a
regular basis and also have access to phone and email. In order to ensure
that you can be entrusted the client merchandise, we will need to verify
your identity and confirm that you do not have any previous criminal
convictions. To apply for this position and for more information on our
company, please fax your resume and (optionally) cover letter to: (309)
  431-7288.

Bug#284764: XFree86 -configure crash

2005-01-20 Thread sandy
dear People:
thank you for your reply. In the meantime, I decided to update my
broken system, by doing:
dpkg --get-selections on a newly updated
Debian system that had a working desk top and
dpkg --set-selections on on the broken machine .
I guess that this forced the instruction
" dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xfree86" to be performed.
my system is now working and the screen looks good.
again,
thank you for your reply.
