I agree Slackware 14.1 is old so is Wheezy which is supposed to be still
supported. Seems to me that the default installation should be backward
compatible.

Bug#775604: xfce4: Xfce4 Trash Icon shows empty even when there is trash

This is easy to reproduce put something in trash and reboot system. Now trash
icon will show empty but there is trash if you open with file manager. This has
been fixed upstream. I can rebuild and manually install the latest xfdesktop
package and the problem does away.

I am running sysvinit-core and start XFCE desktop with startx from my text
console. XFCE4 boots and runs fine except I cannot reboot, shutdown or mount
and USB drives. Looks like a policykit issue.
