I don't have the laptop at my disposal any longer. Please someone else take
ownership of the bug.

Bug#1026965: ACPI Error: Needed [Integer/String/Buffer], found [Package] … (0x3003)

2023-07-31 Thread Al Ma
As for Lenovo T14s I manage, it's of type 20T1 (in particular, not the one you
linked); its BIOS version is 1.26, released 12/14/2022. The firmware revision
is 1.14.  No further BIOS upgrade is available for this very laptop as of now.
(A new Intel Management Engine Software for Windows has been released three
days ago; I'm planning to install it next month and report here if anything
changes.)
If you wish to know user-visible problems (rather than the journal-visible
problems), there are many; I'm going to report them, too. (One step at a time.)
As of today, the errors and warnings are a tiny bit different:
ACPI Error: Needed [Integer/String/Buffer], found [Package] e1607619
(20220331/exresop-469)
ACPI Error: AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE, While resolving operands for [OpcodeName
unavailable] (20220331/dswexec-431)
ACPI Error: Aborting method \ADBG due to previous error (AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE)
(20220331/psparse-529)
ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.HIDD._DSM due to previous error
(AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE) (20220331/psparse-529)
(the four lines above are red)
ACPI: \_SB_.HIDD: failed to evaluate _DSM b356ecee-4244-8f40-a792-4edd4d758054
(0x3003)
(the line above is orange)
Thanks for the URL https://github.com/fwupd/firmware-lenovo
https://github.com/fwupd/firmware-lenovo;  I plan to yell there if the next
update/upgrade from Lenovo brings no change.
Gratefully,
AlMa

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds544977-bios-update-utility-bootable-cd-for-windows-10-64-bit-thinkpad-t14-gen-1-types-20ud-20ue
indicates there is a BIOS version 1.44 available. Please test that.

What isn't clear to me: is there an actual problem like things not working?
If so, what is is that?

If after updating the BIOS to the latest version there still is a problem, it
would be best to report that here: https://github.com/fwupd/firmware-lenovo/

Btw., the number after “found [Package]” in the dmesg output might
change depending on the boot (now the date and time are different and
the docking station is not attached). Now this number is 10f955a8.

Thanks for a quick reaction!
The kernel.org report you've mentioned concerns a somewhat different error
message.
As of the submission time and right now, no updates are available for my
computer in Windows.  Both "System Update" of Lenovo (cf. the screenshot in the
attachment) and built-in "Windows Update" (including "Optional Updates") have
been checked.  As many updates have been installed in the past, my
interpretation is that the system is up to date now.
Albert.
These might indicate a firmware issue, cf. eg. the older

there are further firwmare updates available for your device from Lenovo?

Package: linux-image-5.10.0-20-amd64
Version: 5.10.158-2
How to reproduce:
1) Boot Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye), which is „stable“ now, on Lenovo
ThinkPad T14s Gen 1 with Intel Core i7-10610U.
2) Search for „Error“ in the output of dmesg.

The anonymized prefix of the dmesg output till this error is attached.
Now, since we see an “error”, we wonder what exactly goes wrong.  How do we
translate this into plain English?  What exactly should we worry about?
Thanks in advance,
