It already is:
https://bugs.debian.org/998165

(I don't know if distro-tracker supports it, however.)

Probably nothing, just like for packages that do not have a binary
package with the same name as the source package. Example:

  https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/glibc

Otherwise, if there is a rule about the description in the case where
there is a binary package with the same name as the source package,
some filtering could be done based on the requirements. For instance,
specific strings such as "(metapackage)" (or more generally, the whole
parenthesized text) could be removed.

Couldn't this be a future feature?

(Disclaimer: I am neither the maintainer of tracker.d.o nor emacs)

Out of curiosity: what do you expect to display? You know that the source
package itself does not have a description field at all.

Bug#1028610: tracker.debian.org: shows the short description of the binary package, which is meaningless for the source package

2023-01-13 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: tracker.debian.org
Severity: normal

https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/emacs (which is about the source package)
contains at the top

emacs
   GNU Emacs editor (metapackage)

This is the description of the "emacs" binary package, which
is indeed a metapackage. But this makes no sense for the
source package.
