I have sent a command to ftp-masters requesting that you be granted upload
rights for the qutebrowser package. However, at any point, if you would like
me to review the package before you upload it, just drop me a line and I would
be happy to do so.

Once the upload rights have been granted (you will receive an email), you can
upload new version of the source package by building the package and then
running dput _source.changes. Your upload permissions will work as
long as the list of binary packages remains the same. If you ever need to add
a new binary package or change the name of a binary package, you will need to
have a DD sponsor that upload to the NEW queue.

You might also consider taking a look at the outstanding bugs.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?repeatmerged=no=qutebrowser

It looks like a few of them are stale and could be closed.

No apologies needed, I could have mentioned it from the beginning.

I will read into that.

Yes thats a good Idea, I will do so

Yes that would be great! But I hope that there is a way to request
review for cases where I'm not sure even if I'm allowed to upload myself.

2024-07-09 Thread Soren Stoutner
Fritz,

The review branch is fine. I apologise for not noticing it before.

1. The package currently fails to build because it depends on python3-
distutils. Distutils has been deprecated upstream and is no longer part of
Python beginning with 3.12. It was recently removed from unstable.

https://tracker.debian.org/news/1543129/accepted-python3-stdlib-extensions-3124-1-source-into-unstable/

You can find a little more discussion about this on:

https://lists.debian.org/debian-python/2024/07/msg1.html

I don’t know if upstream already has a transition plan away from distutils.
It some cases it is easy and in other cases it is hard.

2. Because you have to touch the code anyway to fix 1, I would recommend you
update the standards version to 4.7.0.

3. I see that you are a Debian Maintainer and that you have been working on
this package with Abe Beckert for a number of years. It looks like it is in
very good shape. Would you be interested in being granted rights to upload
the qutebrowser package yourself?

Hi Soren,

please check the 'review' branch of the repository.
The last Sponsor I was working with preferred to have the WIP changes
there before the work is done.

If you prefer the other way, let me know and I will do the needful.

Thanks for your time and looking into it

Fritz,

When sponsoring a package, I usually like to built it myself from the Git
repository. When cloning from

https://github.com/qutebrowser/qutebrowser-debian.git

it looks like your recent changes have not yet been pushed to the repository.
Could you please do so? (It is customary to push the changes to the
repository but not tag the release until after the package has been sponsored.
That way, if any changes are needed, they can be committed before it is
tagged.)

Thanks,

Soren
