The problem is that you have to extract both archives in the same
directory (overlay them) to get the source code which wasn't supported
by dpkg back then. I think it is now and if it is the supplements will 
be included with the next upload (which will be soon).

Hello,

It would be nice to have the chance to get gmt supplements in debian
GNU/Linux.  I just checked that the programs is GMTX.X.X_suppl.tar.gz archives 
are also distributed under the GPL as GMT main archive.

If for some reason it is not the case to package them in gmt it could be
possible to make a gmt-suppl or gmt-extra package.
