Handling of alternatives outside of cruft must have changed for the better in some way since 2005; because this bug is not anymore reproducible, even with 0.9.16. /usr/lib/cruft/explain/ALTERNATIVES 3>&1 | sort will list the alternatives detected > As pointed out by aj, files provided by packages through the > alternatives system should be added by those packages' filters.
