Bug#265228: grub-installer: should be smart enough to guess that /dev/hdb is hd0 at boot time

2009-06-03 Thread Felix Zielcke
Hi,

I think 265228 and 486541 could be merged.
Both reports are because grub-legacy doestn't support UUIDs.
So this will be solved if you finally switch to grub2 by default.

Bug#265228: grub-installer: should be smart enough to guess that /dev/hdb is hd0 at boot time

2005-09-02 Thread Henry Jensen
reassign 265228 grub-installer
retitle 265228 grub-installer: should be smart enough to guess that /dev/hdb is
hd0 at boot time

thanks

I think the problem is located in grub-installer. When, in expert mode, grub
ist told to install
to /dev/hdb ist executes grub-install hd1. But it is a good guess, that
/dev/hdb ist hd0 at boot
time (otherwise the MBR will not be accessed at boot time). So grub-installer
should guess or at
least ask the user, if /dev/hdb is the first boot HD in the system. and modify
/boot/grub/device.map.

Regards,
Henry
