Hi Horms!
It's a package kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686-smp from debian testing. See
status information about it:

$ dpkg -s kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686-smp
Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686-smp
Status: install ok installed
Priority: optional

Architecture: i386
Source: kernel-image-2.6.8-i386
Version: 2.6.8-12
Provides: kernel-image, kernel-image-2.6
Depends: initrd-tools (>= 0.1.63), coreutils | fileutils (>= 4.0),
module-init-tools (>= 0.9.13)
Recommends: irqbalance
Suggests: lilo (>= 19.1) | grub, fdutils, kernel-doc-2.6.8 |
kernel-source-2.6.8
Conflicts: hotplug (<< 0.0.20040105-1)
Description: Linux kernel image for version 2.6.8 on
PPro/Celeron/PII/PIII/P4 SMP.

And some more about initrd. I am add in /etc/mkinitrd/modules 2 modules
- piix and ide_generic, because without this modules my DVD combo drive
 not recognized during boot. Serial ATA driver starts before
initialisation of generic IDE and IDE reports that ports are already used.

$ cat /etc/mkinitrd/modules
# /etc/mkinitrd/modules: Kernel modules to load for initrd.
#
# This file should contain the names of kernel modules and their arguments
# (if any) that are needed to mount the root file system, one per line.
# Comments begin with a `#', and everything on the line after them are
ignored.
#
# You must run mkinitrd(8) to effect this change.
#
# Examples:
#
#  ext2
#  wd io=0x300
piix
ide-generic
