I am not a DD and I can afford to wait one week, rather than mess up the
fix.

Thanks,
Andrea.

Bug#285831: scsitools breaks lvm-common

2005-10-09 Thread Andrea Borgia
Package: scsitools
Version: 0.8-1
Severity: critical
Followup-For: Bug #285831

After last update, I found out this system would no longer boot properly as
LVM was not being initialized.

LVM startup script calls two programs:
1) vgscan, to discover available LVMs
2) vgchange, to activate them

Unfortunately, scsitools-pre.sh unmounts proc, so vgscan will fail to
discover the main LVM, which of course won't be activated resulting in the
unavailability of /usr, /var, /home and /tmp.

Hello Andrea,

well, in seems there is a design flaw in scsitools-pre.sh because it
guesses /proc is not already mounted, which is wrong in sarge. I guess
that now /proc is mounted really early, scsitools does not need to
mount/umount it.
However I don't have spare time to work on it until next week, so you
can do NMU if you want it to be fixed immediately.

Regards,
Eric.
