Bug#292339: mssstest: License does not permit modification, but source is modified
Package: mssstest Version: 2.0-1 Severity: serious This package's license does not permit modification, but mssstest-2.0/makefile and mssstest-2.0/roxburgh.cpp have been modified anyway. I suggest you either revert the modifications or obtain the required permission. Quoting debian/copyright: --- This software is downloaded at the user's risk. You can work around that by changing the package so that the user builds the binary package themselves, like the qmail-src package. The change to roxburgh.cpp refers to the line that claims Borland to have compiled the package that I commented out. The changes to the Makefile are of similar $(DESTDIR)-like severity. Upstream is happy with the Debian package. All that I have done was to adapt the source for that process. I have not modified the source in order to change the functionality. And from what I read the license is not in the way even of doing that. Then I'm sure you can ask upstream for permission to distribute the modified source and the resulting binaries. Hello again, I sent upstream an email asking for the permission. To me this is all a bit strange, distracting myself and upstream from the real work we need to do; however the lawsuit between SCO and IBM is strange, too, so I should feel thankful for your help.
