Hello Max,
I am well aware of the development version 2.2.9 and the new feature it
offers given I have contributed to a large number of them.

The precompiled version for Windows is based on the development version
because the stable will not build under cygwin.

However, I don't feel that 2.2.9 is suitable for Debian: this version
has several nasty bugs. For example:
? isprime(798125329,2)
%1 = 0
(should be 1 since 798125329 is prime).

Also, being a development snapshot, both the API and the ABI will change
in the next release, which does not make it suitable for use as a shared
library.

Given that, I am not keen to push that version to the next Debian stable
release (due soon), which will be the case if I upload it to unstable
now.

However, at some point, I might consider to package separatly the CVS
version as a snapshot.

Cheers,

Bug#294931: new upstream version 2.2.9 available

2005-02-12 Thread Max Alekseyev
Package: pari-gp
Version: 2.1.6-3
Severity: normal
There is a new version 2.2.9 availble at the official website
http://pari.math.u-bordeaux.fr/download.html
Although it called Development version, it's the only precompiled version
currently offered to windows users, and so it should be well suitable for
Debian testing/unstable as well.
Current stable version 2.1.6 is quite outdated and misses many features.
Thanks,
Max

Salut Laurent, hello Max,

I have just uploaded pari_2.3.0-1 to unstable but it will go to the
NEW queue (soname changes and one package added).

In the meantime, the packages are available here:

GP2C should be following soon.

retitle 294931 new upstream version 2.3.0 available
thanks

Salut Bill,

I just read the announce for 2.3.0! It would be a nice improvement for
etch, considering the promising upstream release notes. And thanks for
your packaging work.

Laurent.

Fixed in 2.2.12 :-)

That would be really nice to have. Any news about that ?
