Package: conglomerate
Version: 0.9.0-1
Severity: normal
I'm running SCIM, and I can't find a way ot use it in conglomerate in
a useful way. Say I want to type an À. Because of bug #210490, I
have to use an input method instead of just using Compose. (For other
characters, for instance Japanese, there's no way to input text
without an input method anyway).
So I switch to, say, the M17N-t-latn-pre method, then proceed to type
my À: first `, then A. Problem is: after I typed the `, nothing
appears in the Conglomerate window. The À appears when I finish
typing it, though.
If I started Conglomerate fro ma terminal, I get the following
messages on the term:
** Message: preedit_changed_cb: preedit string is: "`",cursor pos=1
** Message: preedit_changed_cb: preedit string is: "`",cursor pos=1
** Message: preedit_changed_cb: preedit string is: "",cursor pos=0
** Message: commit_cb: "À"
Now this bug is relatively minor for this particular character (which
I only provide as a test case), but it effectively prevents typing
Japanese (and probably other languages too). All the Japanese input
methods I've seen are phrase-based: you need to first type the
transliteration of your phrase (which gets displayed in hiragana, the
Japanese phonetic alphabet), then pick the actual kanji phrase from a
dictionary of known phrases with matching transliteration. The phrase
can be rather long, and it's going to be a big pain if you can't see
what you type.
Roland.
