no way to set mozilla firefox language - it stays in english.i tryed in
vain to reconfigure.

Hi, this is not a bug, you need to set up the LANG variable in order to get 
the language working. Otherwise Firefox will continue working only in 
English.

This is valid not only for Firefox, but for most of Debian programs. In your 
case, you need LANG=fr_FR for get most of the programs working in French.
