Bug#302480: nvidia-kernel-source: cpu does not support PAT, aborting.. - what?

2005-04-02 Thread Conrad Hughes

Randall I don't think it's anything you have to worry about.

Grand - thanks for the rapid response and for maintaining this package,
it makes use of this driver much easier than before!

Just upgraded to 1.0.7167 from 1.0.6629, and as I modprobe the freshly
built nvidia module I get this error:

NVRM: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 NVIDIA Kernel Module 1.0-7167 Fri Feb 25

NVRM: cpu does not support PAT, aborting..

.. the weird thing is that whatever's being aborted doesn't seem to be
critical, as it seems that the module is still being loaded, and I can
still run X anyway. I can find no documentation for the error, nor can
I find the phrase using google or anything describing its meaning in the
 module source.

The problem seems to stem from debian/patches/04_minion, which refers to
a website (http://www.minion.de/files/) which notes that all the patches
 it contained were hopelessly outdated.

Hmm, I thought I disabled the patching for 7167. (BTW, there were two
sets of patches on the minion site, very old ones, and ones for 6629
which were also posted to the nvnews.net forum.) I'll look in to it
again and make sure as I'm working on 7174 at the momment.

I don't think it's anything you have to worry about.

What's going on? Should I care? If not, it'd at least be nice for this
abort message to indicate that it's not something to worry about...

My CPU is an AMD K6-3+ - here's /proc/cpuinfo:

I get the same problem under kernel 2.6.6-2-386 BTW.
