Bug#310075: /usr/lib/control-center/gnome-settings-daemon: Want man page for gnome-settings-daemon

2005-05-21 Thread Johan Walles
Package: capplets
Version: 1:2.8.2-3
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/lib/control-center/gnome-settings-daemon

I'm looking for documentation for gnome-settings-daemon. My first and most
obvious attempt failed:

"
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ man gnome-settings-daemon
Ingen manualpost för gnome-settings-daemon
Se "man 7 undocumented" för hjälp när manualsidor inte är tillgängliga.
"

I wish gnome-settings-daemon had a man page.

gnome-settings-daemon isn't intended to be run by the user. That's why
it lies in /usr/lib. Thus there's no need for a man page.

2005-05-23 Thread Johan Walles

I needed the man page.

In case you don't intend to write one (I realize there are probably
more pressing problems around), feel free to close this as WONTFIX.

Saying "there is no need for a man page" is simply false (since I
obviously needed it). Do you know if there's *any* documentation for
gnome-settings-daemon at all? I tried Google without finding anything
:-(.

Why in the world would you need a manual page for a *helper* program
which is located in /usr/lib/something? If the program was meant to be
run by the user, it would be located in /usr/bin.

Bug#310075: /usr/lib/control-center/gnome-settings-daemon: Want man page for gnome-settings-daemon

2005-05-23 Thread Johan Walles
I didn't need a man page as much as documentation about what
gnome-settings-daemon was good for. "man" was the first place I
looked. I got this info:

"
This program, utility or function does not have a useful manpage.
Before opening a bug to report this, please check with the Debian Bug
Tracking System (BTS) at <http://bugs.debian.org/> if a bug has already
been reported. If not, you can submit a wishlist bug if you want.

"

So I did.

The reason for me needing docs for g-s-d was that I started looking
into fixing "https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=7621";. I
found that g-s-d is what's keeping X resources synched with the GNOME
settings. I was curious about what the scope of g-s-d is, and what
other things it is good for. Since I haven't found any docs for it, I
still am :-(.
