Thanks for this.  I'll add this to the package I've got queued for
upload as soon as sarge is released (I only removed the patch tag
because I spotted a few things that mean I don't want to use it without
some modifications).

I see that the patch only adds the 32 bit library for amd64 but it looks
just as applicable for ia64.  Is there any great reason for doing this
other than a lack of immediate demand?

One request: please could you include patches inline when filing
reports?  It makes life easier when working offline and ensures that
patches don't suddenly become inaccessible due to

we don't have a cross compiler toolchain (ia64 - ix86), there is no
biarch support in the compiler itself.
