that's totally my bad.  missing an 'fi' in there.  i'll do another

Just wondering, is there no (automatic) check that should've caught this 
before it got uploaded?

yeah, lintian can catch problems like this, only i mis-remembered having
run it before i did the upload.

there is, but it does not prevent the upload from succeeding.  if you go
to http://packages.qa.debian.org/nagios, you can check on the most
recent lintian report for the nagios packages.
