Hi Julien,

Sorry about the delay. libsane is working flawlessly now.

Thanks!

Carlos Moffat [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Hi Carlos,

I actually managed to make xsane run: I moved:

 /usr/share/sane/xsane/xsane-style.rc

away, and deleted .sane in my home directory. xsane does run ok in that
case. However, the next time (when .sane has been created) it crashes
again. So a workaround is always delete .sane first. Not a real
 solution, of course.

OK...

Which backend do you use ? What's your scanner ?

Please try to get a backtrace when xsane segfaults, by running xsane
under gdb (gdb xsane) then press 'r', then 'bt' when it crashes.

Try to reinstall xsane and xsane-common, too, and see if that helps.

JB.

Hi Julien,

It a coolscan 4000. I believe the backend is sane-coolscan2

Please try to get a backtrace when xsane segfaults, by running xsane
under gdb (gdb xsane) then press 'r', then 'bt' when it crashes.

Try to reinstall xsane and xsane-common, too, and see if that helps.

I tried a fresh install. No success. I've attached the backtrace.

Thanks!

Bug#327504: xsane: Segmentation Fault

2005-09-11 Thread Henning Meier-Geinitz
Hi,

Right. The crash seems to happen in coolscan (not coolscan2) however.
The backtrace looks more like sane-coolscan.

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
 0xb708284b in sane_coolscan_get_select_fd () from
 /usr/lib/sane/libsane-coolscan.so.1
 (gdb) bt
 #0 0xb708284b in sane_coolscan_get_select_fd () from
 /usr/lib/sane/libsane-coolscan.so.1
 #1 0xb709 in sanei_scsi_find_devices () from
 /usr/lib/sane/libsane-coolscan.so.1

This is quite strange. get_select_fd shouldn't be called during
sane_init. Something is completely wrong here. The direct cause auf
the segfault is that sane_coolscan_get_select_fd gets called with an
invalid handle argument.

Maybe coolscan tries to attach the scanner and gets confused somehow?

Could you send the output of:
SANE_DEBUG_COOLSCAN=255 xsane

As a workaround, you could diable (comment out) coolscan in
/etc/sane.d/dll.conf.

Bye,
  Henning

Hi Henning,

sure. here you go.

As a workaround, you could diable (comment out) coolscan in
 /etc/sane.d/dll.conf.

That did it. Now xsane works like a charm.

Hi Julien,

Unfortunately, I doubt this is going to be fixed some day :( Henning ?

 JB.

I should mention I've used xsane under debian/sid (same scanner) before
with no problems. I hadn't used the scanner for a while (say a few
months), so I can't tell you which particular update made the problem
appear, but it was recently.

Cheers,
Carlos

Probably sane-backends 1.0.16, then. I'll try to have a look.

Are you sure that you removed your ~/.sane directory ? Because
obviously XSane is loading its RC file, and crashes somewhere in the
process.

Which usually indicates that there's an RC file from a previous
version lying around.

Hi Julien,

Sorry, I might have sent you the wrong log file (of a second attempt of
getting the debugging info without deleting .sane first). Here it is
again.

I actually managed to make xsane run: I moved:

/usr/share/sane/xsane/xsane-style.rc

away, and deleted .sane in my home directory. xsane does run ok in that
case. However, the next time (when .sane has been created) it crashes
again. So a workaround is always delete .sane first. Not a real
solution, of course.

Thanks,
Carlos
