Bug#327504: xsane: Segmentation Fault
Hi Julien, OK... Which backend do you use ? What's your scanner ? It a coolscan 4000. I believe the backend is sane-coolscan2 Please try to get a backtrace when xsane segfaults, by running xsane under gdb (gdb xsane) then press 'r', then 'bt' when it crashes. Try to reinstall xsane and xsane-common, too, and see if that helps. I tried a fresh install. No success. I've attached the backtrace. Thanks! Something is completely wrong here. The direct cause auf the segfault is that sane_coolscan_get_select_fd gets called with an invalid handle argument. Maybe coolscan tries to attach the scanner and gets confused somehow? Could you send the output of: SANE_DEBUG_COOLSCAN=255 xsane As a workaround, you could diable (comment out) coolscan in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf. Hi Henning, Could you send the output of: SANE_DEBUG_COOLSCAN=255 xsane sure. here you go. As a workaround, you could diable (comment out) coolscan in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf. That did it. Hi Julien, Unfortunately, I doubt this is going to be fixed some day :( Henning ? JB. I should mention I've used xsane under debian/sid (same scanner) before with no problems. I hadn't used the scanner for a while (say a few months), so I can't tell you which particular update made the problem appear, but it was recently. Hi Julien, Sorry, I might have sent you the wrong log file (of a second attempt of getting the debugging info without deleting .sane first). Here it is again. I actually managed to make xsane run: I moved: /usr/share/sane/xsane/xsane-style.rc away, and deleted .sane in my home directory. xsane does run ok in that case.
