Bug#337570: xprint: Maybe the same bug
Package: xprint Version: 1:1.0.2-1 Followup-For: Bug #337570 xprint now crashes both itself and the browser when I try to print something (anything) from mozilla or firefox. If I start firefox from an xterm, then try to print something, the crash is accompanied by a message: The application 'Gecko' lost its connection to the display :64.0; most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed the application. xprint does not crash when tested by itself using xphelloworld. The package xprint-utils which "xprint recommends" (see below) is in fact installed (the very same version). Hi, The same for me, with the same message (I tried both print and print to file). I work on powerpc and use: snoopy:~/misc$ dpkg -l xprint xserver-xorg firefox Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed |/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name VersionDescription +++-==-==- ii firefox1.5.dfsg+1.5.0 lightweight web browser based on Mozilla ii xprint 1.0.2-1Xprint - the X11 print system (binary) ii xserver-xorg 7.0.22 the X.Org X server Important note: this bug is probably the same as 271001. As shown there on my message dated 08 June 2006, the printing was fixed then. Maybe the following two upgrades reopened the bug: xserver-xorg (7.0.20 -> 7.0.22) (but I don't see anything in changelog.Debian.gz) firefox (1.5.0.4-1 I think -> 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.6-3)? Firefox and Mozilla print very well on Windows, always have. Including UTF-8 and MATHML. Why can't the Firefox/Mozilla people provide the same functionality on Linux? It has been a problem now for many years. Most frustrating. Regards, Jan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Nevertheless, with cairo library arriving, all will be fine (IIUC). (Sorry to send to the list too.) -- Eugen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? I'm waiting for x11proto-xfixes-dev 4, which is held up waiting for xserver 1.1.1 and the X11R7.1 transition, which is waiting for the new mesa from experimental to go into unstable. I'm hoping those parts will be done by the end of next week. > > What a horrible bag of bugs xprint is! > > > I think this is because printing support on linux has always been worse > than windows. As for this particular bug, I think it will be cleared by the new version I've been waiting to upload. Drew -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
