Yes, but this log has been written by the previous install, which was successfull. The install that I have tryed today wasn't successful and dhclient never received a repond from the dhcp server. Have you tried using a different mirror? Yes. -- SoUL Please confirm that the working install was with AMD64 and the failing install is with i386. Finding back which version did work, would be really helpfull. Geert Stappers (who earlier today closed #350912 )

Geert Stappers a écrit : Please confirm that the working install was with AMD64 and the failing install is with i386. Finding back which version did work, would be really helpfull. Well I'll try to explain it better... I have tested 3 installations. First was with AMD64 daily netboot and was successfull. Second was with I386 daily netboot and was NOT successfull. Third was with AMD64 daily netboot and was NOT successfull. What the hell ?!!! Eh I don't know ! It's very strange and that's why I wonder, maybe I'm lost and I say bullshits. I don't want you to spend your time because of me saying bullshits. Maybe the best is to forget all that I have said. If you want to continue, the /var/log/installer/lsb-release of the first installation (it's still on my hard drive) says it was done with : DISTRIB_ID=Debian DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Debian GNU/Linux installer DISTRIB_RELEASE=3.1 (installer build 20060128) And I'm sure the third installation was done with this file : http://amd64.debian.net/debian-installer/daily/netboot/mini.iso in its today version (20060204). What could be the problem ? - something has been broken between 20060128 and 20060204 - my network sucks... I don't see what it can be, I have tested with two different ethernet cables, but who knows ! - another hardware problem (I use Asus A8N-VM CSM, it's NForce 430 with onboard gigabit ethernet) - I have no idea :/ I join with this mail the files found in /var/log/installer/. The files in /var/log/installer/cdebconf/ are downloadable by http because of the size (1776 ko) : http://fornever.free.fr/cdebconf.zip If somebody can send me the 20060128 AMD64 netboot I could do the test... because I don't have it anymore on my hard drive nor on CD :/ -- SoUL

I don't see what it can be, I have tested with two different ethernet cables, but who knows ! Possibly. - another hardware problem (I use Asus A8N-VM CSM, it's NForce 430 with onboard gigabit ethernet) Possibly. - I have no idea :/ There has been no change in the kernel used in the time between your successful install and now. It would have been very nice if you'd mentioned before you were using the mini.iso and were not doing a real netboot. It makes a slight difference in that in a real netboot the network would have to be working for the initial boot. With the mini.iso this is not the case. My conclusion again: the problem is on your side! I join with this mail the files found in /var/log/installer/. There are no attachments, but I doubt they will tell us anything useful. Please do some investigating on your own network (packet sniffer). The problem really is there, not in the installer. We cannot help you. If you need further help, please ask on the debian-user list, not here. If you find there is a problem in the installer after all, you're welcome to report it of course.
