[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/Desktop$ dmesg | grep sata [4294673.14] scsi1 : sata_uli And the mobo is a ULI based one. there is a Jmicron sata2 controller on it as well, but it is not supported. only the southbridge (uli) sata ports are supported in linux as far as i can tell. I am 100% positive that sata_uli is the correct module for the sata1 ports on the motherboard, it is what i used in gentoo as well as what comes up in ubuntu. i'm not sure why debian etch had issues with it. maybe there are patches to correct the issue. i have to say, this is the best response i've gotten from any userbase thus far. when i posted bugs for gentoo they just called me stupid... Bug#351487: installation-report
Quoting Chris Stahl ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): the image is from the debian.org page: http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/etch_d-i/beta1/i386/iso-cd/debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso The SATA controller is supported with sata-uli . OK...the problem is narrowed down. I suspect the unsupported SATA controller to be this, but I'm not sure: :00:12.1 IDE interface: ALi Corporation: Unknown device 5289 (rev 10) :00:12.1 0101: 10b9:5289 (rev 10) We need to cofnirm this hypothesisDo you have any indication in the Ubuntu dmesg output that the above device is really the one requiring the sata_uli module? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
