Bug#354614: foomatic-gui: segfaults when invoked

2006-02-27 Thread Ramakrishnan Muthukrishnan
Package: foomatic-gui
Version: 0.7.4.18
Severity: grave

Hi,

Invoking foomatic-gui from terminal, it simply segfaults. No other info
is available. WIll be glad to provide you more data if you need more data
in debugging. The printer here is Samsung ML-1250 (which I still haven't
gotten to work with Debian). I installed foomatic-gui durring my failed
efforts for the whole of today trying to get this printer to print a page.

I hope a severity of "grave" is most appropriate as it simply fails to
run and is hence unusable.

Thanks
Ramakrishnan

Did you also install the updated python2.3-gnome2 and
python2.3-gnome2-extras packages?

Bug#354614: foomatic-gui: segfaults when invoked

2006-07-04 Thread Loïc Minier
This is a followup for Debian bug .

Actually, I just noticed that you used an alien version of
python-gnome2-extras during the single day where it was available:
python-gnome2-extras 2.12.1-2.1 is not supported by our packaging,
please upgrade or downgrade, but don't use this version.

I'm tempted to close this bug now, but please confirm it is fixed by
 avoiding this particular version.

   Thanks,

Hi,

This is a followup for Debian bug .

I tried reproducing this bug as follows:
 - pbuilder login
 - install foomatic-gui
 - install xvfb-run + xfonts-base
 - run foomatic-gui in a Xvfb

This worked (well it didn't crash).

I'm open to fixing not strong enough dependencies across distributions,
but I'm downgrading the severity for now because:
 - I can't reproduce the problem with the latest versions in unstable
 - this part of the conversation suggest that even with the latest
versions you have the bug and I don't:

 Please clarify:
 1) whether the problem happens with an up-to-date unstable
 2) the highest versions of the packages which I can install to
reproduce the problem and which dependency you think is broken

 I hope I don't sound like I don't give a shit, but I simply can't deal
with this problem unless I understand it, so please help me understand
 it.

On a related subject, I just noticed some dependencies were missing,
but they are not related to the versions you mention. In particular,
we decided to add the following dependencies:
 1) let python-gnome2 depend on python-gnome2-extras (instead of a
simple "Recommends") and file bugs against apps that need to update
their deps -- this is uploaded
 2) let python-gnome2-extras depend on python-gnome2-desktop and file
bugs against apps that need to update their deps -- this will be
 uploaded RSN
 3) add conflicts to ensure the new packages split from the old packages
are not installed at the same time as the old packages -- this is
 incomplete

   Bye,
